Cool find in Montclair! You have to know the door to walk in and ring the buzzer to get upstairs. Once there you’ll find a small but well curated shop of consignment clothing. The friendly owner walked us through the store and explained his wares. They have some really expensive pieces too from the 1920s up on the walls.

My 14 year old got treated like a king at Speakeasy Vintage! Picked up a beautiful dress shirt, awesome 60s jacket and cool skinny tie with tie bar. Beautiful one of a kind store. We had a great time picking things out. Thanks Johnny!

Very cool place! Johnny is very welcoming, ready to help with any needs you may have. Not advertised heavily (I’ve been going to the nail leave next door for months and have walled right by it plenty of times). Several vintage hats, tons of clothes to look through, great displays, and cool people. Will definitely return.

Gorgeous place! From the quality of merchandise to the displays everything is well done. The love of these Vintage pieces is clear and the care of them is impressive. This place is memorable, well curated from an artists perspective. The owner is a darling– such a friendly man. Can’t wait to go back!

I just left Speakeasy Vintage and, after my experience, I hope everyone makes an effort to check out this jewel of a shop. I’m plus sized and can’t typically find vintage that fits well. He took the time to personally help me and I left with a cute dress and necklace. I was happy to see a lot of stuff for guys there too!!!
I think it’s a beautiful thing when someone is just good at something that they do. The space is BEAUTIFULLY set up and leaves you feeling like you are not in Montclair anymore. I was smiling and in awe the whole time.

Erratic hours. Stopped by because there message machine said they would be closed on October 15^th and would reopen October 16^th. Hours on the door say 12 to 8 p.m. but nobody answers the buzzer. Not a way to really run a business. I’ll try again another time but only one more time.

You really feel as though you’ve stepped back in time as soon as you walk in. It holds a great selection of beautiful clothing and tons of vintage accessories. The owner Johnny was very helpful and I plan on coming back for sure.

What an amazing find and what a great shop to have in Montclair. True to the name, hidden in the heart of Montclair, you have to ring the doorbell and go up the stairs to the «hidden» 2^nd floor shop. Everything is in order and very well organized and cleanly kept, even the price tags tell you the year of the vintage. You’ll get lost in nostalgia in this place, especially if you can reminisce with the owner, Johnny. The shop isn’t just about the merchandise, it’s a bit about family too. Definitely recommending this gem as a stop on the tour of Montclair.

I’ve been looking for a great vintage shop close to home for the longest time, and I think I’ve finally found it! Just entering the shop (you need to ring the doorbell to be let in) makes you feel like you’re entering a speakeasy. The shop looks more like a museum, with all the pieces nicely displayed and the themed décor and music throughout. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and welcoming and is willing to answer any questions you may have. I ended up getting a really lovely shirt for $ 5 — a real steal! I am definitely coming back to see what new pieces come in!

This place is amazing and truly a hidden treasure! The selection is great and all of the pieces are in mint or near-​mint condition. You could spend a long time just browsing and admiring everything. The displays are very well done — in the front window of the store are mannequins posed in a «speakeasy» type of scenario with a piano.
Prices are fairly reasonable. Although the items here are more expensive than I usually pay for vintage, the pieces are very high quality. Expect to pay around $ 50-​$ 60 for a dress. I got a coat for $ 49 (marked down since winter is ending) and a skirt for $ 26. There is also a beautiful jewelry selection at the counter.
There is a range of decades represented, although there seemed to be more 60s and 70s than anything else. There were a lot of items that you could imagine Megan, Peggy, or Joan wearing on Mad Men.
The shop owner is very helpful and knowledgeable and will answer any questions you might have about items.

This place is a full on treasure. Woah, woah, woah. It will feel like your are looking through movie props & wardrobe. In fact, I’d be surprised if they didn’t rent items.
I am perpetually sad though, since the last two times I’ve tried to go back it was closed (though the sign on the door with the hours read that it should have been open).
When I did have the opportunity to shop there I was completely entranced, down to the record player piping vintage tunes. This place is just so exquisitely and beautifully laid out. Prices are reasonable, too.
Everything is well organized here, do make the trip but call ahead to make sure they’ll be open.

Cannot believe I only just found out about this place! After shopping at Edge (great interior design shop), the owner recommended I check out Speakeasy (located above Edge) and was immediately excited.
The clothes are very well displayed and curated, the shop design/​layout is like nothing I have seen… definitely seems like it would be in Manhattan.
Had an amazing experience, my husband bought an incredible suit for a very reasonable price. I took home a one of a kind dress and a few skirts — again, all at very good prices.
Definitely more 20’s-60’s here, not a wide selection of 70’s-80’s so if that’s your thing you may be a bit disappointed.
Overall, loved the vibe and had a fantastic experience. Looking forward to going again soon!

This store is truly a gem. From the minute you walk in, you just can’t help but audibly gasp at the beautiful pieces on the walls above the counter. It’s a vintage lover’s paradise, and the prices are very reasonable. The layout of the store is adorable and easily navigable. None of that digging through piles of old damaged clothing! These items are impeccably presented and every last one is gorgeous and well selected.
The entire experience from the ambiance to the sales help leaves you feeling really special, as if whatever you found there is absolutely perfect and was just waiting for you to find it. This shop is definitely dangerous for a vintage lover’s wallet, because I can’t imagine going in and not leaving with at least one find!
If it’s at all possible to fall in love with a store, I’m pretty in love with Speakeasy Vintage.

This is a quality vintage shop — and I have been to my share over my 20 years of collecting vintage. Johnny has a great eye, and prices are fair. Good selection and well presented — the racks are not overstuffed like you sometimes find at vintage shops. Everything is clean, and in good condition. They truly want you to be happy with the purchase and will disclose any issues with the piece (although they usually get them repaired before even offering). There is also a fun vibe in this place with 40’s music, and nice décor. I am really lucky that I live around the corner from this place but if I didn’t I would definitely make a special trip.

I happened upon Speakeasy Vintage just walking around downtown Montclair one day, and I’m so glad I did. Yes, you have to ring the bell to be let in — but hey, it is named «Speakeasy» after all! This converted apartment is definitely worth the walk up the stairs — if anything, it makes it feel even more like the hidden treasure trove that it is.
This shop is often compared to the set of Mad Men, but really they have a wide array of items from the ‘20s to the ‘80s, from lingerie to shoes to jewelry to cocktail dresses galore. It’s hard not to want to buy everything this place offers! I myself had bought a lovely pair of old black gloves that I just can’t wait to wear once the weather gets cooler.
Even if you don’t plan on purchasing anything (although you really should support this local business), it’s worth it just to check out the décor. On one end of the store, you’ll find mannequins dressed as sexy singers lounging by a piano, and on the other end a large projection screen showing old film footage while a record player spins 40’s music. The ambiance gives off a nice mix of eccentricity and glamour which makes it so fun.
Prices are more or less reasonable, perhaps a bit on the higher end, but everything is one of a kind after all. The two brothers who own this place seem like a lot of fun (Johnny especially is a real trip!), but I guess you’d have to be in order to run a place this cool. They seem to be the store’s only «employees», so either one of them is always behind the counter and willing to help and even talk about their experiences.
I highly recommend Speakeasy Vintage for all lovers of things past.
