Had the«hit the spot» cheeseburger last night and it was fantastic. Up there with any burger in the Montclair area. Meat quality — great, bun — brioche, Mmmm. Mushrooms, terrific, etc, etc. Wife had the avocado club, also raved about it. Son and daughter had the mac and cheese and liked, didn’t love it. But they are both picky — I tasted it and I thought it was very good. My wife suggested there might be some truffle flavor in there that threw the kids off. Went back today and my son and I took grilled chix sandwiches — also excellent. Had both the sweet potato and regular fries — both fantastic. Pricing is a bit on the aggressive side. With tax I paid $ 34 for the two chix sandwiches(w/a few add-ons) plus fries. But I’d rather pay a little extra for the extra love then get diner-level food somewhere else. This is a great new options in town.

So overpriced. I know it’s Montclair and things are expensive but I at least expect to get what I order. I ordered something on Texas toast and it came on wonder bread. I also ordered an Avacado club and it come one one piece of Avacado in the corner of the sandwich. Are you kidding me?

My boyfriend is gluten free so when I first saw this menu, I knew he would flip and we would HAVE to try it. Came mid-afternoon on a nice weekend, expecting to see some type of activity but there was only 1 other family seated. Some alarms are going off at this point. Shortly after we were seated, I noticed there wasn’t a single person above the age of 23 running the place. More alarms. Our waiter came by, and right off the bat it was obvious he was very new to both the restaurant scene and this establishment in particular. I ordered an Honest Half & Half Iced Tea(didn’t actually say the«iced tea») and he literally thought I wanted half & half milk/cream… so yea. Anyway we placed our order. For me: Hit the Spot burger, requested MR temp(caramelized onions, spinach, mushrooms and gruyère) + side salad For my bf = Naked Chicken Tenders + Parmesan Truffle fries My burger was overcooked, but was good otherwise. Salad was of substantial size but not a fan of the dressing. We were impressed by the chicken tenders, but these are so hard to come by gluten free maybe our perception was skewed. The tenders came with fries, which we didn’t know when ordering the additional fries but we were glad we did because they were really good. I mean the place was empty, so maybe they had the time to put together our food thus giving us a better experience than of the other patrons who have reviewed. Who knows. Had the service a step up from elementary. maaayybe they would have gotten the 4th star. To be frank, the food wasn’t the reason I won’t be coming back. I’m reluctant to even order take-out but who knows what will happen on a Friday night at 1AM and this is the one of the few places still open in town…

I’ve always loved the food at this establishment, even back when it was Mac Attack and had a similar menu. However, it’s really not worth the price anymore. For three people to go out and only get waters, some sandwiches, and a mac and cheese ended up costing us $ 55. Service makes the price even less worth it. The food is really slow to get out, doesn’t seem like there’s ever a manager present and not a lot of the servers seem to be properly trained. It’s so unfortunate because I really liked The Spot when it first changed over from Mac Attack but it’s no longer my easy, affordable go-to place.

This place was so underwhelming, especially given the price. The waitress was nice but didn’t know answers to simple questions like what bread they had, plus they didn’t leave us with a bottle opener for our beers on our table so we had to wave them down each time we wanted to crack open a beer. The fries weren’t crunchy and the chicken felt like it was more breading than meat. No thanks.

Relatively new«Spot». Very nice, they have done a very good job in eclectic decorating … «Cute». We had breakfast, the omelets were good, but mine needed more cheese. Cheese needs to be in the omelet just not spread on the top. The bread was terrible, with the Montclair bread company right around the corner, there is no excuse. They have music which was a lot of fun. We will go again and hope they change the«small» things and make it a great place and not just good. P. S. Pricing was ok.

Would love to one day go back and try the food. Today was our first time there and wound up leaving after 15 minutes of waiting to order because our«server» was occupied with anything else that could distract her. *went back, tried again. Same waitress unfortunately. We won’t be returning.

Don’t do it. No matter what. Yes, the wait at Red Eye might make you want to go here. But don’t. I don’t even care about the food, the service is beyond unacceptable.

Not very consistent. The last two times I have actually dined in, I’ve discovered just how oddly awkward the space and feel of the place is. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but my medium rare sliders were well done and flavorless — a huge departure from the first couple of times that I ordered burgers to go. They still do not have any milkshakes either, which I find to be really strange. Perhaps more disconcerting is the absence of any adults on staff.

It’s 4:00 how do they not have any chicken ? I was starving and didn’t get to eat anything because there’s no chicken . How can you not have chicken. When it’s your first time going places and they don’t have chicken. Then she asks«do you still want the fries» like no Maybe another time

My God it’s gotten even better… I didn’t even think that was possible, but they’ve done it. Loving the new menu style which is a little more simple and has a sleek new look. I went up to The Spot Friday with a few friends and tried their French toast for the first time and goddamn it’s good. And I usually stay true to diners because I believe they do breakfast the best, but this place has got my local diner beat. Not only was I there Friday, but Saturday night I went back again after work for late night. Boneless bbq wings and bacon cheddar fries? Hell yes. Better than any frozen junk you can get from BWW, which is where my sister ended up going. She most definitely regretted not tagging along and coming up to The Spot.

First time here and I really wanted to LOVE this place. Saw the menu through the window and since I was with the family, it looked like it had a little something for everyone, an all-day breakfast menu, and I’ve never met a truffle mac & cheese that I didn’t like… For starters the 4 of us shared parmesan truffle fries, and bbq chicken fries. For main dishes we got the CBLT with a cup of roasted tomato soup, the truffle mac, and two orders of the chicken and waffles with eggs on the side. THEGOOD: The chicken & waffles were fabulous! Fluffy waffles, not too browned and the syrup is to die for! The chicken fingers with them were(in my sons words) «so amazing»! Both of the Parmesan Truffle &BBQ Chicken fries tasted great! It was a little odd that they were very differently sized-portions(the BBQ chicken fries visibly had more on the plate) but we joked that they must be short on truffle oil and we didn’t need to eat that many fries before hitting the gym for the day anyway… again — they were both really tasty. The roasted tomato soup was really yummy! And just want I was hoping for on a rainy Sunday afternoon. THENOT-SO-GOOD: The truffle mac needs an upgrade. It had no texture and a thin cheese sauce with elbow pasta. I think it may have gone over better as a side, but as a main dish, it kinda fell flat. I sent back my CBLT(Cheddar BLT) because even though it had panini grill marks, it was cold and my cheese wasn’t melted. When it came back, it was good, just nothing special. Lastly, I do have to mimic other Unilocalers about the staffs inexperience. I’m sure they will work the kinks out… They are relatively new(don’t think they are 2 yrs old yet), the menu is promising and the prices were great so I’ll certainly return and update my review.

Ugh. Where do I begin??? Such a BEAUTIFUL location with a hipster vibe. Everything else? –____– First off we got a Groupon which was $ 10 for $ 20 worth of food. My friend checked out the menu online ahead of time and was already planning on the turkey burger. Lo and behold. the waitress says they ran out. At 7PM on a Thursday they ran out of turkey. Wellp. She ends getting a Thai Chicken Salad and I get the Chicken & Waffles. Food came out after about the 10 – 15 minutes. My chicken was burnt with literally had NO salt. I don’t recall saying I was on a no salt diet. Her salad was meh. Overall, they need a new chef because the food is lacking MAJOR. This is supposed to be comfort food. Wasn’t nothing COMFORTING about my meal. Never again!!!

It was my first time at The Spot and I wasn’t disappointed! The waiter, Nick was great! Very polite and informative. My boyfriend had the buffalo mac and cheese and he loved. I had the truffle Mac and cheese which was also very yummy. The atmosphere was casual and comfy — perfect for enjoying all of the comfort foods The Spot has to offer. I also love that this place is open until 2am Thursday-Saturday…you don’t see that very often! This place will definitely come in handy when late night cravings strike.

Our food was good, but the place was kind of empty and cold. The tables around us were dirty and the staff was untrained. The Spot is(sort of, kind of) new and once they get their feet wet, I’ll return.

Ordered food at 230. It’s 3:10 now and still no food and no napkins and no silverware. I had to go get my own menus when I walked in since the guy(not sure he was a host or a waiter) just seated us and walked away. So far I am giving it to 315 otherwise we are walking out. Not to mention we are here with are 6 month old so have only so much time before she runs out of patience. So annoyed right now and finally got food and wow it looks like crap and could have taken 5 mins to make not 45. Now you get one star. Your reviews make sense– as usual should have followed the Unilocal review like I usually do. Sigh.

Writing this review a week after we went. I usually don’t write reviews unless something really sticks out, and since its still on my mind a week later… 2 of us walked in around 2pm and there were only a few tables taken. We waited to be seated & finally were told to pick anywhere. Had to ask for menus after 10 minutes. Waited another 10 or so to order and seriously thought they forgot about us. Almost a half hour later we got our food. Mind you, at this point there were only about 7 other people in the place. I ordered The Spot burger, and I will say that it was done perfectly(I ordered medium rare) and very tasty though NOT worth the $ 15 spent on it. Plus there were maybe 2 pieces of sauteed spinach. The hand cut fries are a nice touch, but since they were hand cut they were all different sizes, so not cooked evenly. The hickory chicken sandwich was fine, but again not worth the price. We weren’t given napkins until we were about halfway done with eating(even though we asked), but the nice folks sitting next to us shared theirs with us. At this point we were all commiserating on the horrific service were were all getting. The 2 ladies at the table behind us were there about as long as we were and one of them finally asked, «Are we ever getting our food?» to which she got a generic response. The server made every excuse to them and to the guy in the kitchen NEVER once apologizing or offering compensation of any kind. They finally got up and left. I counted 11 tables that hadn’t been bused by the time we left. It was awful. I read in other reviews where they moved all the dirty plates to one table, but they didn’t even bother. The worst part is that none of the staff seem to give a crap that their service is beyond awful.

It was a cold, windy night and all my friend and I wanted was some delicious comfort food before a show at The Wellmont. We walked by The Spot, took a look at their menu, were reminded of when it was Mac Attack, and thought we’d give it a shot since Mac Attack wasn’t that bad. Baaaaddddd idea. Too bad we didn’t check Unilocal first, otherwise we would have run the other way, but we were already seated with drinks when we realized this place had such bad reviews. I won’t go in to too much detail because I’d basically be echoing what every Unilocal reviewer is saying. The mac and cheese we ordered(traditional and southwestern) both came out cold, lukewarm at best. They claim everything is made to order. Oh really? I beg to differ. We also ordered buffalo bites as our appetizer, they came out with our mac and cheese and they were cold, almost frozen in certain areas. We barely touched our food, ate what we could, and left vowing never to go back. And, to top it all off, the bathroom had no soap. I politely pointed this out to our waiter and he thanked me for letting him know. Did he do anything about it? No. Did I see two employees go in there to use the bathroom? Yes. Did they wash their hands? I can only hope they did once they got back in the kitchen. I still to this day wonder if they ever filled up the soap dispenser. I guess I’ll never know because I’ll never be back.

Love it! Every single bite of it. My boyfriend and I shared the Carbonara Mac n Cheese, a Southwest Burger and a Caesar Salad. They offer half portions of soups, salads and mac n cheese so if you are indecisive you can try a little bit of everything. Also, the burger came with hand cut french fries. Everything was absolutely delicious. Comfort food at it’s finest! PS. they have late night delivery th-sat till 2am!
