Pier 1 Fish N Chips

Their chicken plate w/​veggies, brown rice, and potato salad is my go-​to! Always hits the spot. I can honestly never get tired of it even if I try to.
Definitely macro-​friendly so if you are a clean eater like me heh or just looking for a healthy spot after the gym, this is the place!
Check them out for other items such as sandwiches, salads, and fish and chips. Yes, fish and chips! That’s what they are known for! It’s freshly made to order and def worth a try :)

Ahh! Where do I start??!
First off, food is delicious and affordable! (A combination which I love ;))
Secondly, and most importantly, this review is mostly about the staff who works here. I live across the street, so you can imagine how often I come here. Every time I walk in, I am always greeted with a hello and a genuine smile. The girl who works there is so rad! Super adorable personality! (:
Lastly, I love that this place has a variety of combinations! I’m not stuck with «fish and chips» all the time. The Beef Bowl is my favorite item to order. Trust me, you won’t regret eating here!

So far the best fish and chips. Order ahead of time they tend to lagg it. And always ask for extra tarter soyse. Food is great. The price is not bad, maby a doller less would intise me more to eat there. But othere wise great place.

I’m a regular customer from this small restaurant and it’s great! They have an array of options ranging from fried fish to boiled tofu, and even a desert menu! I usually order some sweet potato fries along with my entrée since they are to die for. I have had the chicken plate before and it’s great, but I’ve began to grow fond of the tofu bowl! All of their plates come with rice and your choice of veggies or potato salad. Both are great but their veggies are definitely my favorite since they are simple yet tasty. They are a decent size and will definitely not leave you hungry. They also have fruit slushies which are pretty good. This restaurant is a great place to eat after a long day or the gym. There is limited seating of four tables so make sure to get there before rush hour if you are planning on eating there! It’s worth a try!

Reminds me of H-​Salt without having to make the drive to one. They offer other types of food, however i only tried the fish and shrimp. It was very good. The young girls at the counter were very friendly. Will continue to come here.

All of their food is exceptional. They were my go to spot for fish n’ chips, until I tried their chicken katsu. They have the best chicken katsu in the area. Whenever I go in, my go to order is chicken katsu plate, spam musubi, and a Thai iced tea with boba. They also have the only potato salad that I will eat, I love it.
And to top it all off, the two girls that are usually running the front are two of the nicest people. They take the time to talk to and get to know all the customers.

Normally the service here is exceptional.
I’m giving 2 stars for customer service and not the food.
Today the girl working wouldn’t substitute cole slaw instead of potato salad. They always substitute cole slaw for the potato salad.
She also had no customer service skills. The lady in front of me was having problems with her card and the girl never asked us to wait or let us know she’d be right with us. She never even made eye contact. The owner lady even came it from the back to help with the card and she didn’t even greet us or let us know they’d be right with us.
So so rude. The young Asian girl that normally works up front has amazing customer service skills, it’s too bad she wasn’t here today they could’ve gotten 4 stars.
So not happy with the service, let’s hope the food is still good.

NOTORIETY: Fish N Chips (N More)
FOOD:
Captain combo: 2 fish, 1 jumbo shrimp, + fries. The fish was flaky & had a good crispy exterior breading. The shrimp was also good, w/​good breading. Fries were crispy, but I personally prefer a little more flavor. I used some malt vinegar but it wasn’t enough for me.
Milk tea with boba: I wouldn’t get it again. Reason being the tapioca was very bland in flavor.
OVERALL: Small little restaurant (maybe 4 – 5 tables), but they do serve good fish n chips, as should be expected w/​their restaurant name. They also serve other items like Hawaiian and Asian food.

Their fish is always cooked perfectly, not overly greasy. The best fried oysters in this part of town.

The Fish and Chips where both very greasy, my hands where coated in oil while eating them. The fries which where under the Fish as I drove home became soggy and where way too salty. I also ordered fried zucchini and it was just as greasy and salty as everything else. Customer service was good and the tartar sauce masked some of the bad flavors. I can’t say I would ever come back here but maybe their food that isn’t fried taste better.

As a kid, my mom took me to H. Salt’s up the road all the time, and I was pretty bummed when it closed down. I’d seen this place spring up when I was in high school and didn’t get to check it out until now. Boy, was I impressed! Ordered the two piece fish and chips and took it home, by the time I was done, I was regretting not going for three or four! Crispy, crunchy fish and equally scrumptious french fries!
Seems like they’ve picked it up since the time some of the other reviews were posted, the girl who took my order made sure she asked if I wanted any kind of sauce and brought my food right to me when it was ready. Place was nice and cool too, which was a pleasant surprise. Definitely wouldn’t have minded eating here were it not for the spotty TV service haha.
Overall, A++, good fish n chips at a fish n chips place.

Great food good price. Some times after the gym I like to eat here it’s so good and healthy. (depends what you get) will keep coming back because the customer service is great

I don’t know why they allow restaurants to exist without even a place to wash your hands. We were provided wet naps at least. I do like their menu variety and that they even have boba and shaved ice. I’ll come back prepared to try something else on their menu.

Came here because I had a flag football practice near Schurr high school so i came here not expecting much…
I ordered the captain combo… you get fried shrimp, 2 fish, chips (fries).
They give you alot of food, and sauces.
The fish tasted pretty good, and fries were fresh and hot.
Wasnt a fan of the fried shrimp.
But overall was okay for spending about $ 9 dollars on this combo.
OVERALL: if your around in this area, and looking for some nice hot fried fish and fries, come here, its a hole in the wall place.

Order in advance. Fish & chips are amazing! Some of th best fish & chips I have tried in a very long time.

I am a HUGE stickler when it comes to service. GREAT food will also overcome bad service for me. (as you can tell from my other postings)
Service isn’t very good. Not completely horrible, but simply not very good. I walked in expecting to be greeted, and the guy at the cash register just stared at me. I said «hi» he said, «hi» and just stared… Awkward! Not very personable. Again, I’m very critical when it comes to service. I am exchanging my money for your food, at least give me a nice greeting, c’mon now… Anyway, I ordered, it was not very busy, maybe 1 other person waiting for their food, and the whole wait was around 20 mins (killed ¹⁄₃^rd of my lunch hour). I love freshly cooked food, so I didn’t mind waiting if it meant they cooked my food fresh… but please let it taste good. they also had my food ready, and bagged, but they had it sitting off to the side as they helped other customers with orders. I saw them put it there, and THEN they realized it was mine… Not cool man!
If the restaurant is reading this, PLEASE have the person working the register be more personable. I saw 5 other customers after me get the same «stare». Be nice and inviting, it will go A LONG way for you guys… Customers like to feel welcomed IMMEDIATELY…
On to the food:
Fish was mediocre at best. I love fish and chips, and the chips were really good, but the fish was soggy. If they had left it for maybe 5 more minutes, would probably have been MUCH better. I just don’t think it was cooked long enough. Right after my order, it seemed to get super busy, so I imagine they rushed it.
The Shrimp was good, not amazing, but good. I liked the size, too.
The chicken wings, they got something REALLY good going with these. They are crispy, and have a GREAT taste to them. While they are greasy (ha like any fried food is), they have VERY VERY VERY nice crisp when you bite into them. Some of the better wings I have tried in this area, I hate to say it, but the wings themselves are better than Alondras (Montebello residents will knwo what I mean)
Will I come back? Yeah, because there are no other options here in Montebello. I think I’d like to go around 3pm when there is not too many people after me. If you order there, be prepared to wait for a little while. If you can wait until later, I’m pretty sure the food will taste better.
Give it a try and see if you like it, I imagine this is not a place for the food stickler, but it’s OK. Chicken wings got you an extra star… Hence 3 stars, no more until you …

The fish n chips were okay. Nothing extraordinary, the portions were small for the price and the chips weren’t that crispy.

So hard to find Fish & Chips places. Looked at Unilocal and decided to try it out. It is exactly what is pictured here on Unilocal.No frills, they start your order when you order. No heat lamps or crap like that.
Like another review on here, the french fries are great! I always worry about take out food driving back home but the food held up well. The fish was good. I still miss the batter of some other places but I guess that was when no one knew about «healthy eating.»
It’s also a good value for what you pay. I’ve paid more for less at other places, so this little storefront is worth driving to.

H. Salt Fish & Chips on Beverly Blvd./Garfield Ave. had been a landmark business in Montebello for decades but ultimately met its demise a few years ago. With it’s closure, a deep vacuum for this specialty cuisine of fish and chips had been left with no clear business to fill its void.
I had been craving this stuff so you can imagine how totally ecstatic I was when I saw Pier 1 Fish N Chips open up here at the Beverly Wilcox Village!
Their facility is clean but there were only 4 table inside. Make sure you call in your order. They take a while to fill orders. Expect to be greeted by a friendly staff.

Today I tried a small variety of items: Fish & Chips, Sweet Potato Fries, Chicken Wings, and Jalapeño Poppers.
Fish: ³⁄₅
Although each piece was moist, I think Pier 1 needs to work on their batter and frying technique. I miss the light, fragile blonde colored batter of H. Salt. This batter was on the firmer side and was more greasy than I prefer.
Chips (French Fries): 4.5÷5
WHOA! I heart these fries! They are larger than a normal french fry and possess a crispy exterior. *SPOILER ALERT* But the delightful surprise is when you bite into it. These fries are sooooo soft in the center and taste like you’re eating mashed potatoes! Amazing!
Sweet Potato Fries: 4.5÷5
Who knew that a little fish and chip shop in Montebello has such tasty sweet frites?! My favorite version is still found at Father’s Office, but these have to be my second favorite (tied with 25 Degrees). Each fry was so moist in their center and had a perfectly crispy exterior.
Chicken Wings (10 pcs): 4.5÷5
POW! They really have a good thing going here! Only thing that would make them better is if they were hot wings! Maybe they should change their business model from a fish and chip place and become a hot wing place… or maybe make hot wings their focus. These wings had perfect batter and tasted like Dixie Fry (which I happen to looooove)! How moist were the wings? Well, the drumettes were extremely moist and flavorful. They didn’t taste like boiled chicken flesh. Wings were not as moist, but still moist enough.
Jalapeño Poppers: ²⁄₅
These were more generic and lacked imagination. They varied in size and amount of pepper. Stuffing was alright, but I’ve certainly had better.
Will I be coming back? Certainly… most definitely for their chicken wings! Hopefully they consider adding hot wings soon! =)
