This placed use to be Sam Woo. Anyways, came here 1÷30÷16 before 6PM for dinner with my parents after half a day walking around the Chinese New Year Festival on Valley. The place is small. The food was decent, light, and wasn’t too oily. The few downside that they were very slow from taking your order to bring out your food to giving your check. It seems like you have to bug the waiter/waitress down to get something from them. However, as people started to gather outside waiting for tables, they seem to rush you to go out the door once you pay your bill. But, it is a typical Asian Restaurant that does this. However, I had better Asian restaurants that serves their customers better than here. Overall, the food is good however the service was a bit on the slow side.

Sad that there aren’t many other BBQ meat places in LA. The food here is ok but NYC definitely has better BBQ. The lady in the front counter was extremely rude. We wanted an extra sauce and she said no. We were willing to pay for the extra sauce and she gave us an attitude and said no we don’t sell it.

My family and I had lunch over there yesterday. Their restaurant is a little small. Their dishes were fine. I ordered the oyster & egg dish, and I enjoyed it. It was light and wasn’t too oily. But, their rice was a little hard for me to chew. Thank God, I didn’t get choke yesterday.

Live in Seattle and came here for thanksgiving. Yes, this is WAY better than BBQ shop in Seattle. I am very very very happy! First the shop is quite small, you can see people wait outside for a table or just get it to-go because there are 5 small tables and maybe 3 – 4 big tables only. But the staff is fast and you can get your food real fast. so people go and come fast too. Not a big problem! :) We had pork(almost) everything. Crispy Skin Pork, BBQ Pork, and Pork intestine! A lunch deal included rice and soup! Good, good, and great! I am born and raised in Hong Kong and I think their BBQ pork and crispy skin pork are even better than in Hong Kong originally!!!(Well, the chefs are probably from Hong Kong too so I guess it make sense.) Pork Intestine is great! My fav! Their stewed sauce is really good. I actually know how to make the sauce, so I know they did their sauce really good. A must try I’d say! If you don’t like pork intestine then you can try stewed eggs or anything else! Oh but the bubble tea is HORRIBLE. :(Sorry but they use coconut milk and it tastes horrible. DONOTTRYIT. Except drinks, anything else is good as it is. Overall I like this restaurant a lot. Love that they have photos on walls so you don’t have to know Chinese to order food.(lol) And great fast staff with good quality food. If you have friends that are not familiar with Cantonese/Chinese food, this is a great place to introduce them! However I can’t give it a 5 stars due to their cleanness. It is not that clean and B rating in their kitchen so it is not safe to say 5 stars. But I will come with my family again soon to see if there’s any improvement! :)

Dinner on Wednesday, 10÷7÷15 It’s difficult to find parking to this restaurant since they share a tiny parking lot. The service here isn’t friendly. The staff seem to just«work» here. We got seated right away since there was no wait in line. They give you tea, marinated duck wings, and the menus as you are being seated. The prices are about $ 9 a dish depending on what you want. It’s not inexpensive as I thought it would be. The portion was decent though. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, tofu marinated in sauce, and a curry beef tendon plate. The food came out pretty fast. We didn’t order steamed rice since it came with the curry dish. Everything was surprisingly tasteful. There were only two of us so we still had to pack food to go. I didn’t get a chance to try the«turtle» herbal jelly dessert as other Unilocalers were saying it’s delicious. I usually just stick to the BBQ section of the restaurant and order to go. Overall, the food was delicious. Service isn’t that great so don’t expect it. The place looks clean but you’ll have to make your own judgment.

I’ve been here for dinner many times and the only thing I enjoy is usually the Chinese BBQ meats. I find everything else underwhelming — greasy, lots of MSG, expensive for what you get, etc. The roasted duck is great. Their cold chicken dish is really good. I’m told their roasted pork and cha siu are top quality, also. Their BBQ meats are a little more expensive than elsewhere but worth the few dollars here and there. It is small in here(and totally a hole in the wall) so be prepared to wait if you’re planning on having dinner on a weekend evening. We arrived at about 6pm on a Saturday and got the last table. A long queue was out the door. From now on, only deli take-out for me. Even their rice doesn’t taste taste great.

Super tender chicken. I had the soy sauce chicken over rice with some greens $ 6.09 after taxes. You can’t beat that! The chicken was so good but the rice was a little hard and dry. But the portion is huge! Hence the 4 stars and not the 5. Honestly everything hanging looked really good… The pork, duck, even the intestines looked good. It’s so exciting to find a little hidden gem in your neighborhood. I came across this place just driving down the street at nearly 10 pm starving and low on cash. I wanted something quick and easy and not a fancy sit down restaurant. I was about to go to the seafood restaurant in the same plaza bc I only had $ 9 cash and thus felt I needed to go to a sit down to pay with my credit card. I walked into this joint just to see if they accepted cards but behold I found the menu to be super cheap, food looks great and get this … they have a sit down restaurant tucked around the corner! It had a great atmosphere no fuss, yet surprisingly updated and clean. Televisions on and food porn pictures displayed on the wall. The restaurant is tight but cozy. You will find Chinese men eating alone reading a newspaper. I felt like I was back in Hong Kong! Definitely coming back as a regular to just have a simple affordable cozy meal. In all honestly sometimes I hate Unilocaling my finds bc I’m afraid it won’t be special anymore… But heck it’s an obligation as a elite. I must share the wealth(I.e., food).

Came here for lunch today with my mom. After seeing pictures here on Unilocal,i decided to bring her here cause she is very picky about her food and i assured her that she will surely like this place. Well… After reviewing some of the pics, i thought i made the right decision to order for her. The lady who took our order got everything mixed up. Ordered roast duck and bbq pork came out. I told the waiter that its ok, since its already out. Here comes string beans which i didnt order also because me and my mom doesnt really eat string beans. Told the waiter about it and he said its the free dish cause i ordered more than 5. So, i said ok, we’ll just have it to go. Rest of the food came, its really not what ive expected… I think they favor chinese customers like some of the big restaurants in sgv. No soup was given, soda took 3 reminders before given. So sad…

I was pretty excited when I walked into this place — A tiny, hole in the wall Cantonese style restaurant with colorful flyers of specials plastered all over the walls. A waiter greeted me in Cantonese. The restaurant looks surprisingly modern and clean inside, despite of its shabby exterior. It took me a while to figure out what to order. All those flyers on the wall were overwhelming and a bit confusing to be honest, but I guess their business strategyl is to not waste any space. If they make use of all the wall space and post each special enough times, one of them is bound to catch the customer’s eyes. It worked. I totally over ordered, eager to try everything. Sham Tseng seems to have its strong and weak points in terms of food. BBQ might be their strong suit. Chinese dishes definitely were not. I ordered off the lunch special/afternoon tea menu. –Steamed chicken($ 8.99): Pretty good. Tasted fresh and smooth, with some nice scallions and ginger paste to go along with it. 8⁄10 -«Three seafood with crispy tofu»($ 8.99). Nooot good. Hardly any seafood. Small shrimp, squid, and fish. 2⁄10 –Indian curry with beef brisket($ 9.99). Average. Good strong curry flavor. Beef was a little tough. 5⁄10 –Dumpling soup($ 4.99). Dumplings were soggy. Hardly any shrimp and no bamboo shoots/fungus inside like at Sam Woo. Mostly pork. 2⁄10 –Steamed Abalone($ 2.99 each). Pretty average. Didn’t seem fresh but this isn’t a seafood restaurant. Good deal. 5⁄10 Their afternoon tea special is that if you order 3 dishes, you get 1 for free. However, this is a bit misleading, because the one free dish you get is off a different menu with limited items. I ended up picking the Seafood Chow Fun for the free dish. It was godawful. Cooked with soy sauce, dried up, close to no seafood, tasted burnt. Did not eat and would feel bad even feeding to dogs. 1⁄10. Boba milk tea was only a dollar. Tasted so so. Boba were a little soggy. 3⁄10. Dang it, I really wanted to like this place, but most of the items I got were subpar. If I were to ever return, I’d probably stick with trying their Chinese BBQ. Definitely will not give their Chinese Dishes another shot.

I love all their food!!! Came here to buy the house special soy sauce chicken $ 11.99 not bad. If you want fresh crunchy roasted pork then it’s better to go early and pick because there’s pplz. the good stuff. Actually it’s better to come earlier for the rest of the stuff

I’ve been here plenty of times, and it never fails to hit the spot for roast pork, char siu, and roast goose as well as roast duck. I’ve brought my family visiting from overseas — and they agree similarly! Since I introduced them to Sham Tseng, they like coming back to this place. Some of their dishes are hit/miss, but the BBQ items are really good. Lunch and afternoon specials are a good bargain as well. When I come here, I always order: Three-item BBQ special which consists of roasted pork(the one with crispy skin), char siu, and roast duck. Must try! Better than Sam Woo in my opinion. One thing that really helps is having someone who speaks Cantonese. They’ve given my uncle free dishes like vegetables just by making friends with the servers! It’s not too difficult to communicate either even if you just try to speak in English. Tons of items on the menu to try!

= BESTCHINESEBBQ in SGV = This amazing restaurant is probably the best Chinese BBQ restaurant in town. It gets extremely busy here on weekends and before Chinese holidays. There’s 2 sections to the restaurant: TO-GODEPARTMENT If you like to order any of the following Chinese BBQ items, line up and wait for the next available chef: — BBQ Pork(Cha Siu) — Roasted Pig — Roasted Duck — Roasted Chicken — Other items hanging on display If you would like to order other food items to-go, walk up to the cashier towards the end of the counter. RESTAURANT Besides the BBQ items, they also have amazing food items available from their menu. They would often have special items not listed on the menu or the wall. Ask your friendly waitress about any recommendations or specials for the day. They are really friendly and can always give you great suggestions if you can’t think of the perfect dish. My personal favorite is their Winter Melon Soup — They only make 2 daily, so call ahead if you really want it. Prices varies depending on the size of the melon. I also like to order other items besides their BBQ items. You would be amazed by the quality of their Combo Seafood Pot. I honestly think you get more than what you paid for. And if you are Chinese and/or adventurous, remember to order their«Turtle Pudding» for dessert, it is delicious! PARKING It’s hard to find parking at this place, but you should be able to find street parking fairly easily if you don’t mind walking for a block. NOTE — Cash Only

Been here so many times, quality of the food is consistent and reasonable prices. Lobster e-fu noodle for $ 9.99? Yeah that’s awesome price. They are known for their bbq, right. So their bbq is 1 of the best in the area, their hand roast pig is a must have, also their roast goose, yep I said goose. Probably the only place that sells it. Their chiu chow style is taste differ and delis. The server is very nice also. They may not speak fluent English but it does the job. We come here for food so what matter is the food. Other dishes like curry is a must have too, beef stew curry like the Indian style or batong village style is excellent. Overall, all is awesome. Bonus; now after u know which one is to ur liking, go to their to go side and buy some for dinner.

Came here with my family. My mom saw an advertisement for this restaurant so she wanted all of us to go. The place is very small, their main thing is Chinese BBQ take out. We had the following: ½ roasted Peking duck — I love Peking duck, it was juicy and flavorful. 1 lb. of roasted pork — it was good, the skin was super crunchy and very tasty. Shrimp salad — they were trying so hard to push this on us and we finally gave in just so the waitress will stop talking to us about the shrimp salad. We did not like it. It had shrimp, cantaloupe, honeydew and boiled potato. Swimming in mayonnaise(so gross). I don’t know what kind of a «salad» is this but it was not one we will ever get again. Green beans with chicken — it was very good. the green beans were cooked perfectly where it’s tender and crunchy with tender juicy chicken. Salt and pepper pork chop — It didn’t have any bones so it was nice. It was juicy and not overly salty. BBQ Pork Dry Chow Mein — yummy!!! That’s all I have to say! French Style Cube Beef — to me it’s just a black pepper cube steak. It was good. Sautéed Chicken Wings — It would have been delicious if it wasn’t so salty so I can’t say if it was good or not. Preserved meat hot pot — need 20 minutes to cook so order in advance. It was good. Very flavorful and the Chinese sausage and the rice is so delicious together. I will definitely go again but next time I want to get their wonton noodle soup.

Used to be Sam Woo, and was difficult to find parking in their lot. I was greeted(in English) by an older Chinese man behind the counter. He quickly took my order, ½ a roast duck, and chashu(BBQ pork). I was glad we could communicate, and he quickly sliced, rather chopped the meat. He thanked me, and put the containers on the counter. An older Chinese woman pushed her way to the cashier, snaking me, and ordered something. The cashier chose to take care of her first! I do like the food here and have eaten inside on many occasions when it was Sam Woo. One of my faves was the Won Ton noodle soup. Cash only, may have to wait to park. Good value and tasty food! Oh, there is a sign«No Photos».

This place serves two types of customers: those who actually come in to sit down and eat(left side of the restaurant), and those who go to the BBQ takeout section to get food to go(right side of the restaurant). I usually fall in the second category, and my review will accordingly be written to reflect that. The prices of the BBQ to-go meats are apparently subject to frequent change, as they are written on a lit board via black marker. The same applies to the party tray board, and pretty much every other board with a listed price as well. Several seats are provided for those waiting on their to-go orders. You have an extremely wide array of menu items to choose from: roast goose, duck, suckling pig, BBQ pork, chicken, etc. I typically get BBQ pork, sausages, Yang Chow fried rice, and«marinated pig intestines» — or at least that’s what the restaurant calls it(I think something got lost in translation along the way). My understanding is that they’re actually fallopian tubes — last I checked, intestines didn’t come with delicious & chewy-yet-crunchy ovaries intermittently attached to them. The food here is extremely flavorful and tasty. Yes, even the fallopian tubes … if you’ve never had them, I’d say that they may be an acquired taste for some — chewy, rubbery, and«strong”-tasting. I’ve enjoyed them since childhood, and in spite of the horrified, disgusted looks that this apparent barbarian invariably receives when he encourages others to try them, I do believe they are worth sampling at least once. The pricing of the food I think is pretty fair. During my last visit, it was $ 8.39/lb for BBQ pork/sausages, $ 8.99/lb for the fallopian tubes, and $ 6.99 for a box of Yang Chow fried rice. My understanding is that you get more food for your money if you opt for take-out vs. dining-in(I don’t think I’ve dined in enough to verify this theory that I’ve heard). The staff is Cantonese — expect the gruff service that is associated with folks of such origin. As long as they get your order right and refrain from spitting in your food, you should be content. xD The adjacent parking lot is typically packed; I typically have better luck finding a curbside spot on S. Chandler Ave.

Only have come here for take-out. The restaurant has take out counter in the front and a small dining room on the backside. One word, DUCK. They have Duck, goose, bbq pork, roasted pork, you get the idea — plus the entire menu is also available for take out too. Don’t come here for service, it’s minimal. Language barrier, but the guys who handle the meats understand enough English for you and they to get a point across. Prices are fair, food is fresh and tasty.

Portions are generous. Food is okay, though some things are bland. Things I thought were bland today were the braised phoenix claws and the sweet and sour pork. They have a way of putting sugar in most dishes; its a little weird but works. Small glass of lemon ice tea for $ 1 with lunch special… not sure if there’s free refills but I doubt it.

First of all, if you don’t speak Chinese, you will have a couple of hurdles to hop. The employees here speaks very little English. The pictures of food on the menu and the displays of different variety of BBQ would probably help some. One of my favorite snack to order in a BBQ restaurant like such is the soy sauce cured duck wings. It goes great with soda or cold beer, and lots of skin to nipple on while watching TV. The duck wings here is on the sweeter/honey-ee end. Their BBQ quality is pretty standard. The lady forgot to give me the sauce but it was still pretty tasty, with the pork skin being super crunchy and crispy. Accompanying the unbelievable fatty dish – the cholesterol level is never a concern when you eat BBQ, regardless the ethnicity, is a good bunch of Chinese broccoli.

Came in b45pm during the week and enjoyed 4 entrees for the price of 3. They run these specials due to lack of business and I can understand the concept — quite dead at this time. Ordered the beef chow fun wet, seafood tofu, fish with veggies and the complimentary entrée was the fresh soy sauce chicken. Meal came with a large bowl of bitter melon soup and hot tea. Overall food was tasty and the chicken was the standout since the BBQ is the specialty here. Of course there was plenty of leftovers! Overall a bargain for what you pay and convenient to visit at off hours.
