Layers Sensational Cakes

We chose Layers to make our wedding cake. The cake turned out beautifully and we were very happy with it. It would have been nice to have received a confirmation call a day or two before the wedding letting us know that our cake was scheduled for delivery for peace of mind, but everything worked out.

So my fiancé and I came here for our cake tasting. Being from the area I knew layers was a great choice. The reviews speak for themselves. Service was top notch and we weren’t pressured at all. The cakes here are to die for. Omg I can’t wait to see and taste the finished product.

Layers did my wedding cake for my Monterey wedding last month. My now husband and I were referred to them by our venue. We went in for our tasting March ’15 along with my mom and Godmother and we had a great time. Hazel was really sweet and easy to work with. I’m not much of a cake fan, but the samples were really good! I kept changing my mind about what I wanted and Hazel did not have any problem at all with that. In the end, we went with a simple 3-​layer cake, buttercream frosting on the outside, lemon, raspberry and red velvet on the inside. I was very happy with the final product and felt that the service I received from beginning to end was outstanding. Thank you Hazel and Layers!

Cute place. It was recommended to us by the wedding venue we chose. My fiancé and I scheduled a cake tasting appointment for today and we had a great time. The lady that hosted the tasting for us, Hazel, was very nice, knowledgable, and honest. I could tell she knew what she was talking about with different designs. They have a cute little room set up specially for cake tastings. They had 6 different slices of cake for us to try– our favorites were the lemon cake and the chocolate cake. Also– I usually don’t like fondant, but I thought theirs tasted good! Over all, great experience. Deposit is only $ 200, I say «only» because everyone who’s in the middle of planning their wedding knows that all the other deposits for the different things that have to be booked for your day is $ 500 and over. It was refreshing to hear a lower number haha. I’m exited to see how our wedding cake comes out!
As for the bakery– has a great selection for a small bakery. We also got the sugar cookie and peanut butter cookie for the road– sooooo good!

OMgoodness. I watch every calorie EXCEPT for the occasional excellent dessert.
Usually, I’m a chocolate only. Death by chocolate is fabulous but can be too much of an excellent thing.
Our wedding sampler… which ought to be offered as a dessert in and of itself… was 8 huge pieces from buttercream lemon, fondant white with strawberry filling, carrot cake with cream cheese, to death by chocolate was a decadent delight.
We chose fondant white with berries. .our guests went crazy for it, too.
We sneak a tiny version of this cake for special events now.
Layers, may add to your body fat layers but if you must be sweetly naughty. .do it with great taste. Do it at Layers.

Have been picking up cakes here for years. My wife and family seem to really like them. Great birthday cakes, and have good coffee

Amazing cakes !! Have been ordering cakes from them for ten years for baby shower, weddings and anniversaries. They are very friendly and polite. Italian family owned bakery. Their princesses cake still my favorite. They also make a killer Italian rum cake. Never had any problems with delivery or pick up. Definitely one of the best bakeries in the area.

I don’t know how anyone could complain about Layers. The cakes are always moist and delicious and the staff is professional and friendly. Simply the best in Monterey!

We needed a celebratory cake and ordered the raspberry Nougat from Layers. It was a chocolate layer cake with buttercream filling and perhaps a layer of seedless raspberry spread since fresh raspberries were not in season. Whatever it was, we did not see anything that resembled raspberry sauce or spread nor tasted anything with raspberry flavor. Unfortunately, the reason we ordered this cake was for that particular combination. There was chocolate ganache and sliced toasted almonds on the outside. The chocolate cake was dense and intensely rich and the buttercream worked well with it. Even without the raspberries or sauce, the cake was still enjoyed as a chocolate cake by all. Misrepresentation by bakery!

I have had plenty of their cakes and I could say they are the best!!! My top 2 would be the chocolate and carrot cake. If I’m ever in need or ordering a cake this would be the spot.

I ordered my wedding cake from here and was completely in love with it! We ordered the white cake with raspberry filling as well as the death by chocolate. The tasting experience was so fun and everything was so organized. I had guests say it was some of the best cake they had ever tried! Thank you so much for a lovely wedding cake Hazel and crew!!!

100% beyond my expectations!!! I called from Sacramento a couple of days before I needed a banana crime pie for my girlfriend’s 30^th birthday. We were headed to Monterey for the weekend to celebrate and I wanted to surprise her, and boy did Layers deliver!!!
I asked if they could write «Happy 30^th» on top and I was told they normally don’t write messages on a pie, which I kind of figured but I thought I would ask anyway. However they did tell me they might be able to come up with something.
When I picked up the pie on Saturday I was completely blown away from the results!!! I really could not have asked for better!!!
Thank you so so so much Layers for making This 30^th birthday surprise totally perfect for my girlfriend!!! She Loved it!!!

I love this bakery. The desserts are all of excellent quality. My husband and I got our anniversary cake from here and were extremely satisfied. The people their are a but stuck up, but overall I’m there for the dessert not the people. Absolutely a must place to have dessert.

We stumbled into this place. The rum balls are wonderful and the chocolate covered mini-​cakes are heavenly. A must recommend.

I ordered the Mocha Cake for my Mom’s birthday and man was it delicious! The Mocha Cake consists of a chocolate cake, mocha/​coffee frosting, and a lovely apricot glaze that added a tasty ‘zing’ to the cake! Layers had the cake ready to go on time and made the extra effort to add fresh flowers to the top of the cake. The size they recommended was perfect and the cake itself was

We ordered our wedding cake from Layers and loved each of the flavors we chose (lemon, red velvet, death by chocolate, and raspberry genoise). The cakes were beautiful and we couldn’t be happier with them. The tasting sold us– every single thing that we tried was mind-​blowingly delicious and made it even harder to narrow down our choices. We had some issues with contacting Layers to change our order a few months before our wedding (they gave us an email address that apparently no one checks?), but that tiny headache was worth the delicious treat that we enjoyed at our reception :)

This was my first time in Layers and it was a quaint looking little shop. I admit I did not order a cake but was buying one that already made. It was a white cake with chocolate buttercream. They offered to put writing on it and a rose which was nice. But when I served it to people for my friends birthday, honestly I was embarrassed. Both the cake and the frosting tasted stale… like it had been in somebody’s fridge for a few days. It was moist enough but had a bad aftertaste. No one ate their whole slice which is really unusual for this group. For $ 36 I expected something a lot better than this. I could have gotten 10 times better at Costco for ¹⁄₃^rd the price.
