Attempted to order the special of red snapper. After our order was placed, they came back and told us they were out of snapper. Then someone at the table ordered a steak and fries. Again, they came back and said that the gas got cut and they couldn’t make fries. When food was presented, someone at the table ordered grilled trout, but was provided breaded trout. The trout was sent back to the kitchen, but after 20+ minutes of waiting we ended up cancelling the trout order. Overall, very disorganized and chaotic.

Very average dining experience at an upscale price. While there wasn’t anything really terrible about our recent dinner at Charles Anthony this past week, there certainly wasn’t anything memorable. Service started out great, and our server, Blake, was very friendly and welcoming. However, unlike other servers around our table, Blake didn’t tell us about their specials or anything about their menu offerings. Also, he didn’t checked in on us at any point during our meal. Nevertheless, we were a lot more impressed with our server than we were with the food. The filet mignon was the most average tasting I’ve ever had. Honestly, the steaks at Texas Roadhouse taste fresher and are better quality. My wife’s grilled snapper was above average but nothing to return for. The sides were below average. The side salad seemed more like one you’d get at Denny’s, and the steamed broccoli wasn’t any better than frozen supermarket quality with some salt added. The restaurant décor and ambiance are decent, but I’m not sure a return visit is in my future. Disappointing.

I have been eating at The Pub for 40 years! Good grief… I remember the Montgomery Mall location before it was expanded into the hall, I remember the large shooting game that was over the bar. My wife and I ate there weekly in the 80s and 90s, just incredible food at a great price. She orders the filet and I order the Mediterranean filet medallions with cheese grits. While prices have at least tripled, the food is still excellent as is the service. My son loves the sauteed crab claws and I love the fried. I highly recommend The Pub.

Delicious food quality. Service was great by friendly staff and waiters. Prices are pretty very high. Classy atmosphere. Nice for a formal meeting not an every night eat out.

We were on business travel and impressed with the number of restaurants choices in the area. We went on Tuesday night and once again on Thursday night. It’s dark, comfy, and laid back, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there on Tuesday night. There’s loads of choices including trout almondine, loads of red snapper entrees, steak, etc. I couldn’t make up my mind and decided on the steak appetizer which was sirloin stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeño and wrapped in bacon on a bed of mashed potatoes. It was good, not too spicy, and decadent. Yet there were only(3) pieces of steak and the potatoes tasted instant with a bit of cream. It was tough to share it with a table of 4. My co-workers also ordered calamari, but they were not too enthused about it. Entrée orders included my cheese grits with grilled salmon, filet mignon, and red snapper. I also ordered the fries and loaded baked potato along with my grits. I think I have an issue with carbs but that’s for another time. My grits were pretty good although the grits were so finely ground that it was almost like porridge. I would have liked a bit more flavor, but it still hit the spot. One thing about it is the large servings. My co-workers could hardly finish their meals. Of course, no matter how large the entrée is, I’ve never had this issue. Indeed, I was darn full after finishing dinner. I don’t necessarily think the fare is worth the prices. I would have liked to see more southern choices as sides or entrees. It seems like there are a few items that just don’t fit. There were no items that stood out for me so that’s why I got cheese grits the second day. I think they need more choices if you don’t happen to be a huge steak or fish fan. I have to say, the best server there is Shane, hands down. He even asked me how I wanted the steak appetizer cooked. The second server, a blonde lady, didn’t ask or give as much attention as Shane gave us. I am gluten free so when I asked what’s in their broccoli and cheese casserole, she smugly said«ummm…broccoli and cheese» while rolling her eyes. I couldn’t tell if she was purely joking or being a prick, but it turns out I couldn’t have it because it was topped with Ritz crackers which I can’t have. So maybe I’m not so dumb, right? Anyway, it’s a nice atmosphere, but I wouldn’t go back. There’s many other choices around East Chase and elsewhere in Montgomery.

Every dining experience is some combination of food and service and as good as the food was tonight, the service(thank you bartender Carly) was virtually perfect. All food tonight was recommended by Carly — clearly a well informed server. The menu was not inspiring in its creativity, but the execution was SPOTON. Dinner started with a cup of seafood gumbo which was chock full of seafood in a? broth? that was super thick and delicious. Entrees come with a salad(chose the house Greek balsamic) and a side; asparagus was an extra $ 1. Dinner was a perfectly cooked rare Ribeye. I recommend this spot — no weaknesses in food prep or service — even the manager checked in on a single bar diner.

My wife and I had dinner with another couple on a Sat night. Each of us had a different seafood dish. The food was at best average. However, the prices were astronomical and the service was absolutely horrible(server 172 Courtney). To make matters worse, they doubled the charge on our credit card. The server explained that they had made an error and that it should be corrected soon(as of yet it hasn’t) and that if a credit did not appear on our card that we could come back by the restaurant and they would try again…

In the area looking for dinner close by the hotel and came across this place. Saw a lot of stars on Unilocal, so why not… Ordered the ribeye, medium rare, baked potato, and fried okra. The steak had a variety of cooked portions, ranging from rare to medium. Nothing really stood out to mention about this steak, just another average cut of red meat and tad bit over priced for what I was served. Potato was good, had to ask for more butter and sour cream to get it a little more moist, but again it was just a potato. Couldn’t tell much about fried okra, it was there… Looking for BBQ now…

This place is pretty great! Walked in and ate at the bar alone. Bartender/manager was very attentive and friendly. I was greeted with wine sample and suggestions. He also made my favorite drink. Lots of regulars came in and were welcoming to me. The food was also good as well. I got the trout almondine and he ended up bringing me grits as well as the asparagus I asked for because I couldn’t decide. This is located very close to hotels so if you are staying near by it’s worth the walk. Thanks for giving me that southern hospitality I get at home :).

Small portions, less than mediocre food, small noisy bar. More of a low grade watering hole than a restaurant. Was out at a booth for 4 essentially in the bar… couldn’t hear a word my partner said, waited forever for food, surrounded by noisy bar customers swilling and spilling wine. No thanks

Came back to Montgomery for the turkey day classic, and after four yrs at Bama State, never knew this restaurant existed. After eating here, I now know why. Very upscale(for Montgomery). Definitely not for the average broke college student. That aside, the food was amazing. Rice a tad over done, but the calamari, gumbo, and shrimp were all splendid. The price however was reaching a little. I spent almost $ 45 on a single person. Lucky I got a good degree from ASU to be able to land a job that can swing meals like this cause I’ll definitely eat here again when I’m in town :) For a little more: parking lot decently lit but the sign to the restaurant isn’t(pay attention when you’re getting off the e-way or you might miss it). Staff extra friendly. Interior has a soft seductive setting complete with lit fireplace and dim lighting. Doesn’t seem small child friendly but I’m sure the kids will survive.

Wife had Tuscan fillet. Said was good but would not order again. She would go back again, however. I had the surf and turf, good classic meal. We both had martinis, excellent. Staff was friendly and fun to talk to, watched the Alabama football game in the pub area. Would recommend to our friends, good steak, known quantity!

Go to Cracker Barrel right next door. — Half the price and better food. I remember this place — 15 years ago — in the Montgomery Mall. it was a dive, with GREAT food. Now this location is fantastic, but the food, not so much. Stick to the steaks, fried seafood and you fine. Go for some other stuff like we did tonight — you were warned. Crab al gratin — awful. They should be ashamed to serve garbage like that. Sides were hit and miss. Cheese grits — Great — one person got fries — waitress said they were home made — LIE — they were freezer burnt, out of bag garbage fries served in the cheapest of restaurants. Bake Potato — good! Entrees served with a salad — well, technically correct, not sure I would even put that on the menu. Oh — and the Fresh Catch — $ 36 — for snapper! We did not get it, and the two tables we were crammed in next to — they also questioned the Price for snapper at $ 36! Ok — I have to end this so that I am not picking things apart too much, but please note I have not mentioned, what is that word, service. In sum — go to Cracker Barrel right next door. — Half the price and better food. Wait — let me but that at the top of the review…

Not 3 star A-OK, but 2.5 star.: OK. Recommended by clerk at a nearby hotel. Took about 2.5 hours for dinner. Two of three steaks were over cooked. Bread was good. Good wine selection for a MGM restaurant. Place is popular — as evidenced by cramped seating despite getting there at 6 pm on a week night. Noisy and cramped. The pleasant waiter was overworked, rushing to take the order of each new person entering the dining area while other tables are still waiting. Overcooked steaks could be reflective of kitchen being rushed. If management gets their act together it could be 3 star. —SammyR

I feel like all I write these days are bad reviews. Maybe I have become too picky when I am on the road… naw. The place looks nice on the outside, it has the«pub» look. It was a Monday night and it wasn’t busy. I was surprised when they walked me into the dining room. The tables were so close together there was no way people could walk around them. I waited what seemed longer than normal for the waitress. It was long enough that I already had decided what I would have. When my waitress finally showed up she asked me for my drink order. After I told her what I would like to drink she took off before I had the chance to go ahead and place my dinner order. So I waited some more for my drink and to order. I ordered the reef n’ beef, fried shrimp and a 12 oz rib eye, along with steamed broccoli. The meal came with a salad and I decided to try the«world famous Greek dressing» which you could buy to take home if you wanted. The dressing tasted like balsamic vinegar with too much pepper in it, the salad itself wasn’t very exciting. Lettuce, one cherry tomato and a few croutons. Now came the meal. The steamed broccoli was over cooked, it was very mushy. The shrimp was hot but the batter had a lot of pepper in it. They were like blackened fried shrimp if you like that you would enjoy them, I didn’t. The steak was well cooked and hot… but once again the cook should have stopped with the pepper. The steak had way too much pepper for my taste. There was a roll on the plate as well but they did not provide any butter to put on it and when I picked it up I thought it must have just been there for looks because it was way to stale and hard to eat. Well that was my review of the meal not comes the part that really made the meal interesting the bill. They charged me for each refill on my soda. When I asked about free refills the waitress said that she orders the drinks from the bar and they enter the charge but she could remove them if I wanted. I asked her if she would. Also the bill had the gratuity calculations on the bottom for you. When I looked at it they didn’t look right. When I double checked the math I realized that they had added 50 cents to each amount. I would recommend the Waffle House across the street.

I was in Montgomery for work and was told that I should try The Pub while in town. Since I was traveling alone, I sat at the bar and tried to do everything I could to keep the men sitting there from talking to me. The service was good at the bar and the steak roulades I ordered for my appetizer — freaking amazing. I almost wish I’d stopped there. I love Greek salads so when I saw that they sell their«famous» Greek dressing I ordered a salad, too. Honestly? The dressing wasn’t even close to the Greek dressing I buy at Publix and couldn’t touch my homemade version. I can’t remember the name of the entrée I ordered, but it was a special that night and was fish with some kind of sauce. Obviously not super memorable, but I remember it being pretty ok. All in all a decent dinner. I’d go back just for the steak roulades, but would probably skip everything else.

Let me start by saying The Pub is my favorite Montgomery restaurant. It’s almost physically impossible for me to go to, or drive through, Montgomery without stopping at The Pub. The latest iteration on Chantilly Parkway is only open for dinner, so plan accordingly. I’ve enjoyed this food and these recipes for upwards of 27 years, first at Mr. G’s, a power dining spot where legislators and lobbyists schmoozed, and then at The Pub, a cozy bar in Montgomery Mall run by a previous owner of Mr. G’s. Eventually Mr. G’s closed and Montgomery Mall spiraled into decline and closed. But not before Charles Anthony bought The Pub and built a new free-standing location on the east side of town. The menu, showing its pedigree, is stocked with all the favorites passed down from Mr. G’s. Even Jesse, a chef at Mr. G’s, is still cutting meat at The Pub and likely cut any steak you order. My favorite dish, which I almost always get, is the grilled trout amandine, accompanied by rice and a salad with their special Greek vinaigrette. There’s a secret sauce that comes with the fish and I always get extra to pour over my rice. The fish is grilled perfectly, crispy on the outer edges, moist and tender on the inside. Other favorites include crab claws, Mediterranean style tenderloin, gumbo, chicken supreme and crab au gratin, but you can’t go wrong with any of the fresh seafood dishes. Entrees range from $ 13 – 20. Mr. G’s had a seasoned older wait staff with years, and sometimes decades, of experience. But, at The Pub you’ll find a younger staff that performs adequately. When this out-of-towner recently dined at The Pub twice, just a week apart, I was stunned when the waiter called me by name and remembered who I was. I hereby declare Rob waiter of the month. His low key, customer focused service will leave you feeling well taken care of. Whether you choose the formal dining room or eat in the more casual bar, you’ll enjoy a wonderful meal.

Would definitely recommend the grilled Tilapia with baked potato. Service was good… kind of slow but efficient. The lighting and atmosphere was dim and cozy… better suited for couples(date night) instead of family dinner. The garden salad is not my fav but my friends seemed to enjoy it. Overall I’m a fan!

Known as «the pub», this place is a quaint but happening American eatery. If you drive too fast you may miss this place, the exterior colors are not bright. There is no flashy sign. Little would you know that this place has been around for years! The service is excellent, we had the most attentive and sweet waitress. For appetizers we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, was not salty and cheesy like most places. It’s served with the pub’s homemade pita chips. Our dinner entrees were all standard American fare, grilled steaks and crab cakes. All delicious! We will definitely be back.
