The Massacre Haunted House

One of the best haunted houses. The wait was pretty decent really! Bout an 45-​an hour wait. Not to bad. The actors were fantastic. They never broke character and always put on a good show. The set designs were amazing. I felt like i was in the correct place. If it was a hospital, it looked like a hospital, if it was a jungle, i felt like i was in the jungle! There was nothing i hated!

Awful experience. Complete bait and pull. I got a groupon for this event, and when I showed up there was an 75 minute line JUST TO CLAIM your groupon followed by a 2 and a half hour line to one of the most boring, bland, poorly organized, poorly acted, «Zombie invasion» i have ever had the misfortune to attend. It was advertised as an hour long zombie shoot out and it was hardly that. It was a bunch of shitty actors, defective lazer guns and low budget productions and at most a 10 minute walk through. We even paid an extra 20 $ to cut through the line and have an exclusive second zombie experience which was hardly 3 minutes of more shit shit shit. Do yourself a favor and do not support these MONEY-​GRUBBING selfish jerks. NOT SCARY, NOT FUN and NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

Finally a haunted house that was scary! I was actually so excited to get scared throughout the entire haunt! This was their special event called blackout where they turned off all the lights in the haunt, didn’t have a set path, and you are only given a glowstick… per group!
My friends and I had a blast! The actors really keep in character and know exactly how to pop out at you and scare the crap out of you. I think the haunted house should always be like this!

Fun haunted house! Great price considering I’ve gone to many this month! The line wasn’t too bad either so that was nice:-)

Not worth the hype. I’m unsure how this place was voted the scariest in Illinois… it was average at best.
The haunt is located in a strip mall and there is no clear signage informing people what line is for what. We had VIP Fast Pass tickets but had no clue which line we had to be in. The only signs were located right in front of the line but you had to plow through herds of people to try and read them. Once you are finished waiting in the line outside, you then must wait in another line inside the building. There are NO staff inside directing VIP Fast Pass holders to the shorter line… we had no clue where to go and had to figure it out after a while ourselves.
Once inside the haunt, you go through different themed rooms with dark winding hallways that separate the rooms. The rooms were elaborately and impressively decorated; however, the scares would have been much more effective if the actors wore masks and full costumes so you had absolutely no idea who (or what) was behind the mask.
I did give this place two stars because they were very conscious about the flow of the haunt. Most haunts send large groups of people through at a time which ruins the entire experience because the people in the front of the group get the real startles and the people in the middle and end get the leftovers. This haunt would force you to stop at certain points and would not allow you to pass the actor until the group in front of you would be far enough ahead ensuring the group you came in with got the full experience. I also gave it two stars because the set decoration was impressive to say the least. It’s always nice to walk through a room and not know what is real and what is a prop.
All in all, if you are looking for an average scare haunt, this is your place. If you are looking to be terrified, there are much better haunts out there.

While this wasn’t the scariest haunted house I’ve been to, they did so many clever things that I think it’s totally worth going to if you’re in the area. The group size and pacing is phenomenal. We were in a tiny group of five originally, which eventually just resulted in us being alone once the group of three made it a tiny bit ahead of us, which is always rad in a haunted house. The staff pay close attention to the pacing as well, with two different points where one of the actors did something to make us wait to give the people ahead of us time. I’m not sure if everyone was on walky talkies or what, but the way this was all orchestrated was masterful.
Inside, the rooms are INCREDIBLY varied, to the point that Massacre, by far, had the widest spread of different themes inside potentially of any haunted house I’ve ever been to. There’s even a weird jungle area, complete with waterfall. It made you stop and spend more time looking around, versus many haunted houses which might all just follow one theme. You could tell a ton of care and planning went into the whole thing.
The 3D area, like all 3D areas at these haunted houses, was pretty gimmicky. I imagine this 3D stuff was cool at one point, but now that legit everyone is doing them, they kind of lose their appeal. Still, if you’ve never seen the 3D UV paint stuff, it’ll be neat to you.
The best thing they do though, and the smartest thing I’ve seen ANY of the haunted houses do this year is take a photo of your group when you get there, then post it on Facebook the next day with all their info and watermarks and stuff. Rob Zombie’s haunted house took a photo and were trying to charge THIRTY DOLLARS for it. No way in hell would I ever pay $ 30 for a photo, but we totally shared the crap out of the Facebook photo they posted, which arguably drives far more value for the haunted house through everyone seeing that we went to Massacre than the few saps who flop out $ 30 each night at American Nightmare. It generated some interest, got my friends talking, then they went. That’s how social media is SUPPOSED to work, so, bravo Massacre for being smart about it.
I guess they do some laser tag stuff in the off-​season, and while I typically don’t care about that kind of thing, with the attention to detail found in the haunted house, we’ll definitely be back to see what that’s all about.

Totally enjoyed this. I recommend getting the VIP ticket because the line was crazy long on the outside. You can get right in within 10 minutes. I haven’t been to many haunted house but this one was awesome. It took about 40 minutes to get through which was longer than I expected. That’s a good thing, the creative team paid good attention to details, and the staff and security were friendly and helpful. It was inexpensive since I did find a deal on Groupon!!! Go check this place out before they pack up.

One of the best haunted houses yet. Great big scary fun. 3-​D rooms nice staff. Go. go go we have been to nearly every haunted house and along with nearby basement Of the Dead this makes for a great night out.

Never thought a haunted house would actually scare me until now. From the moment I walked in going to buy a ticket there was a nurse trying to get me to donate my blood with her huge needles as fingers. The wait to get in wasn’t that bad on sunday. (30 – 35 mins wait). When we first stepped through the doors, it was like living in a real life nightmare. I couldn’t tell what was real and what was fake or even where the actors were coming from. On top of that all the makeup was phenomenal! It was definitely one of my favorite haunted houses I have ever went to. I would absolutely recommend!

The only thing scary about Massacre is their foreseeable lawsuit

When they were at Odyssey Fun World I was a real fan, came every year and always brought my family. Last Halloween season I came here with my boyfriend and two teen nephews. Man, what happened to you all?
Now I’m not one that’s easily offended or annoyed, but I sure as hell was confused and dissatisfied with the actor’s/staff’s «acting». There was NO SCARE FACTOR.
All night I got called names like «Bonquesha» and «Shaniqua» by the actors and staff. My nephews and boyfriend were referred to as «Tyrone» and one of the actors kept asking us if we knew how to dance. Again, how the hell is this scary??? We paid to be scared not made a mockery of all night.
Also while in line, there was a woman who grabbed my hand and put my ticket in her mouth although I asked her not to and when she did a glob of spit fell out of her mouth on to my hand. Apparently it’s part of the «act». Actually, several actors grabbed and slung me around that night, yet your terms say you aren’t supposed to touch us right?
One of the actors walked around throwing condoms on people, which from the look of everyone in line (30 ppl) did not entertain them. The couple in front of us actually left after a brown dirty condom landed on one of their heads. And then to make matters worse halfway through they put the 4 of us with another group of 5, which took away from the suspense.
You’ve got to do more than just walk around yelling obscenities and throwing condoms to get good reviews and real fans. This stuff isn’t scary or fun, it’s annoying and leaves a lot to be desired.

So this haunted house out in Montgomery decides to put on a special holiday show after a very successful season in October. Weird, right? Well it was. For two nights only, they re-​opened their doors with a demented-​Xmas theme, and it was LEGEN–
…wait for it…
I am so, so, sososo glad I made the hour+ trip out to middle of bufu Illinois to experience Massacre. I (spoiler alert!) was recently an official reviewer for
, and these guys made it all the way to the top of the list to become the #1 rated haunt in Illinois for 2014. The webmaster himself recommended this place, so of course I had an obligation to see what all the fuss was about. I was NOT disappointed.
Admission was normally $ 25/​pp, which is actually a lot when compared to most other haunts in the region. However, if you brought new or gently-​used toys as a donation, they would take $ 5 off of each ticket, so I only paid $ 40 for myself and a friend. When I realized I had forgotten the box of toys back in the car, the guy at the ticket window said «oh no problem, just drop it off at the front when you’re done going thru.» When we did, they were so grateful for the (ample) donation, one of the actors broke character to say ‘thanks’. All around friendly folks, really.
As for the haunt itself, I was inside for more than 20 minutes, which yielded a great scare-​per-​dollar-​per-​minute ratio. Just when I though «oh this is probably the end», it just kept on going. TONS of themed rooms, a bevy of costumed characters, and some phenomenal animatronics that quite literally floored me. I was initially upset that they were only sending guests in groups of 2 – 4, as that drew our wait out into the 30 – 45 minute range. However, as we went in just the two of us, we got personalized treatment from the haunt, and it was awesome.
Highlights included:
+ a room filled with Samaras (the creepy-​ass long-​haired girl from The Ring); some were mannequins, others were not ;)
+ an animatronic I can only describe as the plant from Little Shop of Horrors lunging out from a dark void and scaring the sh*t out of me
+ a big T-​Rex head that was triggered by walking across a pressure plate
+ a church scene replete with lit candles and pews filled with dummies… or were they?
+ a continuation of the above, wherein a possessed priest guided us through a hallway completely lined with bible pages (a nice touch)
+ a motion-​activated rack of ‘falling’ drums that gave me a good jump
+ a room adorned with [gory] severed heads hanging from the ceiling
If I had one criticism, it would be the weak production of their 3D area that was rather underwhelming. Most of the effort seemed to be put into the other zones, as this portion was virtually barren of actors, not that scary, and generally unimpressive.
I think what made Massacre my favorite haunt of 2014 was trying to guess if that person-​shaped thing in the corner was a static dummy, an actual human, or a dummy on a pneumatic scissor-​jack that would spring out as you walked by. They put on a terrific show, my biggest kudos to the cast, crew, and everyone else behind the scenes to make it Illinois’ BEST haunt. A job well done, guys!

I was extremely disappointed for this event. The set work was decent for what was visible, but the acting was GOD AWFUL (lights or not)!! I felt mislead the minute I hit the entrance. On our visit we were never informed by the haunt directory site we located these guys from or there home site (calendar page) to inform us it was a blackout event/​only stated it was open till 11pm. This means you run through the event with no lights on in the venue for the full admission price ($ 23 generic ticket) and we found this out at the haunt waiting line when they give you a DIM flashlight after taking your ticket and tell you this is all the light you get??? (I truly think our batteries were dying!). They don’t inform you with ANY postings in/​on property prior to entry (ticket booth, throughout exterior grounds, entrance, ect.) The 3D maze also lacked power except for the spinning tunnel (defeating the purpose of 3D) which they said was fully active. Our prize for disappointment was a free generic T-​shirt as we exited the event which they were trying to get rid of (everyone got one free this night), yet they were still selling them at the ticket booth (for $ 7 each) with VIP sale upon entrance and handing out a free t-​shirt voucher if you complained once they tricked you on the darkout??? Taking advantage of your customers, misleading and price gouging! I will not return here as they tried double talking us following! A 3D haunt is pointless w/​o electric and if you run a blackout, don’t charge full price! Very Disappointing to say the least!!!
Scare factor: Low/​Actor count: Very Low/​Set Work: OK??? for what we could see/​No one directing anything in parking lot so we ended up in the 2^nd lot by the entrance trying to figure out if they were open?
Unfortunately I never felt engaged into any of the sets, and I actually scared several of their actors (for $ 23) who were screwing around while we were going through. We also found several sets with no one in there (approx. 5 for $ 23). We did have an actor in a hall of doors room apologize for the poor performances and said we should of come on Friday Night instead (lights on show). At least he felt our pain which we appreciated! Another apologized to my friend when he almost stepped on him in the dark and said the same thing.
From what we experienced, this is definitely a kid friendly haunt (6+)!
–Scariest??? Far From It! & all for $ 23–

I have to say that when I heard it was in Montgomery I thought that we were going to have a far drive, but actually it is not that bad. Right off of the expressway on the boarder of Aurora. There is plenty of parking and people directing you so as soon as you get in the parking lot you start your Massacre experience.
I really have to say that the owners of Massacre have really out done themselves this year. I have gone to their previous location and this year is by far the best! There are various amounts of horror scenes, characters and props that you will be mesmerized by. Your trying to figure out if the prop is real or not and you really are in for a scare. What I really like also is that this haunted house is not full of the black air walls or just senseless dark rooms to fill up the space. Every inch of this place is filled with Creepiness one right after another. I have to really give the staff credit to, they are very organized to get you to your next experience with no wait. The 3d experience also is a mind blowing visual experience of horror, soubd, lights and color. Very detailed and very well put together.
Your definitely going to get your money’s worth at this place. I love Halloween and haunted houses when I found out that they will be open year around with different themes and designs I really got excited, and I will be for sure going back to check them out.

I had purchased two VIP Tickets, and was glad I did when I got there and saw the line wrapped around the building. We went around to the back exit and was told by an employee to just go to the front door and they would let us in, so we did just that. When we got to the door they told us that we had to wait in line even thought we had VIP, are you kidding me? What was the point in paying for that then?
So we talked to tome people in line and finally figured out we were supposed to go to the bottom of the ramp and we stood in line there. Once we got to the entrance the guys scanner was broken and because of that we were told we had to stand in the general admission line, are you kidding me? My friend went and argued that just because their scanner was broken doesn’t mean we should be penalized, and finally got to where we should have been 20 minutes before all of this.
Now onto the haunted house. As a person who scares easily, this haunted house was a joke, there were more props than people and it wasn’t even scary. This is such an unorganized haunted house, and wasn’t even scary.
NOT WORTH IT!

Let me start by saying I am one of those people who simply doesn’t scare easily. My idea of a haunted house would truthfully be going into a genuine haunted house alone without any lighting. Having said that, I have to remind myself doing these reviews that perhaps it is better for me to review it with my children’s perspective in mind. So, I think if my kids were to rate this haunt, they would give it a 3 STAR. As a parent who paid for this, I can’t give it anything more than a 2. Here’s my rationale:
CONs:
1. cost per ticket vs. length of haunt: Although I got these tickets at a discount ($ ³⁰⁄₂ at Costco), I still feel it was too expensive considering it only took us 20 mins to walk from beginning to end. However, the reason it took 20 mins vs. 15 mins is because of CON #2. We had to extend our own time.
2. kept running into the people in front of us: Throughout our haunt experience, I kept reminding my daughter (leading the pack) to walk slow, and even slower… and even slower yet, because we kept running into the «pack» in front of us. For those who are familiar with haunts, having the group ahead of you spoil where the next «scare» is going to come from simply frustrates you. You pay good money in hopes of getting scared or startled and having this happen a few times last night just irritated me.
3. cost of VIP: They make you believe that paying for VIP is worth it so you can get to the front of the line without having to wait in this horribly long line AND you get BOTH haunts. Yeah, well, my guess is that the wait was at best 30 mins for general admission (though it could be dependent on the day and time). I personally think paying a little more to get to the front of the line is worth it when (A) you have to wait outside in the cold for general admission; or (B) the haunt is sooooo popular the wait line is over 1 hr. Also, paying the general admission, you get BOTH haunts!!! Their website makes it appear the general price gets you the Massacre OR the Fear Factory. This is not true. EVERYONE gets both and so the $ 10 difference is simply to get you to the front of the line. Definitely not worth the extra cost.
4. noise pollution: While I know some people get scared by loud noises, especially when it comes so suddenly when it’s relatively silent, it doesn’t make any sense to me that a person is banging the walls repeatedly (and I mean 10 – 20 times in a row) trying to be scary. WTF??? LOL
PROs:
1. indoor waiting: Having read about this prior to going, it was nice to go in without our jackets.
2. temperature: Most haunts have lines outside where it forces you to wear your jacket/​coat then suffer from heat exhaustion when walking through the maze of terror. Not so with this place. The temperature inside was perfect and comfortable (mind you we didn’t wear our jackets going into it).
3. organized: The staff really do a good job with directing people and making the experience flow smoothly.
4. 3D section: Without spoiling it, the 3D section was pretty cool!!! Interesting concept.
5. artistic: The different «rooms» were nicely done. Props were generally realistic and some areas, the smell added to the experience.
6. good for kids: I have to say that my kids jumped quite a few times. However, I think my 10 year old could have handled it… I don’t think it was that scary.
7. One particular guy caught me off gaurd and freaked me out!!! That was impressive… as I said before, I don’t scare easily.
I’m sure I’m leaving things out. Generally, this is a basic haunt and worth it ONLY if you can buy tickets at a discount. I’m not sure if I am expecting too much considering the two haunts I’ve gone to had the same problem (running into the people ahead of us). For my kids, they felt is was a good experience but the Dungeon of Doom out in Zion/​Antioch got a better response from my kids (mind you that was last years haunted house experience). Since I gave the Dungeon of Doom a 3 STAR, I certainly cannot give this the same because I too felt this wasn’t as good. I’d recommend going here ONLY if you live relatively close (I live one hour away) and the tickets are 2 for 1. Hope this review helps.

I haven’t been to a haunted house in a long while. Not since I was a teen. This haunted house was pretty cool. There are two houses to go to. I think people are cheap nowadays. I mean it’s 23 bucks for two haunted attractions. Get with it. You know you are going to pay.
The wait. Lots of people complain amity the wait. This one, even though the line was long af was not that bad. We waited about 20 mins in line and it went pretty quick. I loved the 3d rooms. Really cool. Yes, there was adult humor mixed in with the haunted house but there are signs everywhere that say this is not for kids. All in all pretty cool place and I enjoyed it. Was I scared? Not really but I was anxious at things that may pop out. Go it’s not that bad and you will enjoy it.

Wow! This haunted house is amazing. The actors were very believable. I don’t get scared easily but this haunt changed that. They had about 5 line actors and a movie playing in the line. Just watching the line actors scare people was more entertaining than the movie lol. The sets are amazing. This haunt truly makes you feel that you are in their world.
I’m so coming back.

This was not worth my money or time. 1^st we come into the parking lot and there is a clown dressed up with a purple dildo acting as if he is humping a stuffed animal. Then he starts running around touching people in the rear with it. Waiting in line was probably the most entertaining part because of the movie playing. But the guy that was the entry person was just as perverted as the clown. Then we walk through and come to another clown humping a TV or slot machine yelling out winner, winner, chicken dinner, WTF. Then comes the transvestite that shot a condom at some young man. WTF does any of this have to do with a Haunted House? Good way to get someone’s ass kicked if you ask me. Wouldn’t waste my money and definitely wouldn’t take any young teens. SUCKS!

I survived the massacre!!! Lol the boy and I made It out to Montgomery after Oktoberfest celebrations. I was nice and buzzed and ready to be entertained! I had only been to Statesville haunted house one before, and I didn’t really like it so I had my reservations. I didn’t want to walk or stand in mud to get to the Massacre like Statesville. (I spend too much money on my clothes to be ruining them!!)I appreciated that the ground was paved outside and not muddy. The lines are indoor vs. outdoors. I really liked that the people that run The Massacre and all of the characters treat you respectfully. Yes they crack jokes with you and what not, but at Statesville they yell and scream at you and I didn’t like that one bit. I don’t like spending my hard earned money somewhere to be treated like a slice of Dogsh*t pie!!!
Anywho back to the massacre: the line moves pretty quickly. I was prepared to be there all night waiting in line. We purchased our tickets, made it through the lines, and the haunted houses in about an hours time. 23 bucks gets you general admission access to two haunted houses. I don’t think buying VIP is necessary. The line moved pretty quickly, some of the characters interacted with you while you were in line, and there was a big screen showing the movie The Conjuring. I loved the character interactions. I am some how inclined to believe that someone who has worked for Statesville haunted house is connected with The massacre because I saw a few similarities. Some rooms were completely the same as Statesville. That to me was a little unoriginal. I don’t know who’s idea that was, but #DoBetter. That being said I still had a good time.
I did jump a few times I have to say. Some of the characters were quite entertaining! I loved the one on the toilet! He was hilarious! The 3D section was cool. It was very short, but I felt like I was transported into a comic strip. Loved the effects. The rooms were decorated very cool. Very nice detail. My one major critique is the way a couple
Of the rooms were setup. I had wandered completely out of the haunted house to the behind the scenes area twice. They need to have more clear direction as far as where to go at some points. Check this place out!

This was a decent haunted house. The scenes were good but the actors were bad and weren’t interactive with our group other than grunts and growls.
The entry area had a huge TV screen showing a horror movie at a volume of ‘eleven’.
