Waffle House

My husband and son went to Waffle House at 7 AM recently on Saturday. Upon arrival no one greeted them. When they sat down in the booth they waited and waited and waited and after about 15 minutes the waitress finally appeared to take their order. She was sullen and unfriendly. The tea that my son was served was in a glass that looked like someone vomited on it. The coffee was cold although the coffee served to the next booth could be seen to be steaming. As other patrons entered who happened to be black, they were greeted with friendly hellos. After waiting for more than 40 minutes for their breakfast they finally stood up to leave. They were treated with contempt because they were white and the employees were black. And if you don’t believe that you are naïve. They never did receive their breakfast and no one said anything at all to them when they stood up to leave. This is one restaurant we will never go back to.

This place is hit or miss. I give it a 2 Star because we’ve missed more than we’ve hit when eating here Late in the evenings or overnight. They must not be able to cook steak medium well once the sun goes down as I have tried 4 times to get my steak down Medium Well. So then I started ordering the Chicken and wouldn’t you f’ing know it. The chicken on 3 occasions has been under cooked. Got Damn It WH!

I traveled to Montgomery recently and ended up staying in a hotel nearby this waffle house. Upon arrival late at night we were hungry and the WH was nearby. What a great eating experience it turned out to be. I ordered a BLT and a sweet tea and both were perfection. The tea was very dark, with rich satisfying tea flavor and so sweet it made your teeth ache which is just how it’s supposed to be, I discovered. The BLT was perfectly constructed with lightly toasted tender thin sliced bread, crisp fresh lettuce, perfectly crunchy, salty bacon and even the tomatoes tasted like tomatoes which is rare these days but for homegrown tomatoes. Our waitress was a bit shy but so friendly and attentive and the manager stopped by and politely checked to see if everything was meeting our expectations. There was a large staff and they seemed to be getting along with each other, enjoying being there and taking great pride in preparing food as good as they possibly could given the raw ingredients they had to work with. It was truly a fantastic dining experience. I wish we’d been able to stop in to eat several more times during our stay.

My travel partner likes WH so that is often our breakfast choice unless I have more influence. This location is very good and we have been here twice lately. Always good chow and service. Perhaps one of best we have tried. Med level rating because it’s a chain.

Definitely a regular late night spot for my friends and I. I actually came here after another local waffle house gave us terrible service. Staff is always always always friendly and prompt. The food has never been bad. And it’s always spotless (and that’s hard for a Waffle joint.)
