Yoi Sushi is located on the second floor at the La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa. This Sushi paradise is one of my favorite restaurants at the resort — and in all of Conroe, for that matter. Yoi Sushi has an experienced chef and amazing views that can only be found at this wonderful resort. Once you climb the stairs to the second floor, you arrive at a large area — the perfect place to hang out! On one side, there’s an extensive bar with a piano which radiates a festive atmosphere. On the other side, you’ll find this fabulous Sushi bar with stunning views of the lake resort that will make your jaw drop. I was joined by a group of good friends on a beautiful summer afternoon. As the sun began to fall, we started off on the patio with a couple of Kirin Ichiban’s. What Sushi experience is complete without Kirin, right? We took a look at the menu to see what we had in store for us. Everything you might want is here — and that put a smile on my face. We asked the Sushi Chef what he would recommend as it is our custom to let the Chef choose our meal. Chef knows best! We went inside and ordered a couple of Asian Pear Martinis — a delightful cocktail made with pear juice, sake and pear liqueur — to have with our small plates. This martini goes very well with Sushi and I highly recommend you try it. The martini gets its name from sake, an undistilled drink from Japan, and pear-infused liqueur. We started the meal off with a Spicy Crab Salad and the Tuna Tataki. The Spicy Crab Salad was beautifully-presented: delectable crab chunks and sliced avocado drizzled with a tangy, spicy sauce. A piece of art that was as delicious as it looked. You must try this as a starter — you can thank me later! We also sampled the Tuna Tataki: seared tuna, ponzu sauce, chives and sesame seeds. Again, a delightful dish with a presentation that’s to die for. Just take a look at the photography. You will be starting off on the right foot if you just follow my lead. It honestly took everything in my soul to stop myself from ordering more of the same. But, I knew this experience was only going to get better. We ordered some Seikyo Hot Sake to go with our entrees. Seikyo Hot Sake is clean, soft and rice-y in the best way. Wonderful Hiroshima lightness you can sink your teeth into. Lovely. Our entrées included a Fancy Yellowtail Roll, King Crab Roll and a Pepper Tuna Roll. All were insanely fresh and on point and came served with a super-contagious smile from the Chef. The Fancy Yellowtail Roll was built with tuna, salmon, and white fish with spicy sauce topped with yellowtail and jalapeño. The yellowtail was extremely fresh; it tastes like it must have been swimming earlier this morning… ha! But seriously. Next up was the King Crab Roll — a delightful combination of Shrimp Tempura, crab topped with avocado and King Crab. This was my favorite roll of the night, but I am a sucker for Shrimp Tempura and King Crab. Let’s be honest… the king of the castle! I was really excited about the Pepper Tuna Roll. It was suggested by one of the staff at the front desk who said it was her favorite. I can see why: savory Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Salmon, pepper tuna, and avocado with ponzu sauce. Yet another masterpiece from the Chef here at Yoi Sushi. And now for dessert — as if the evening wasn’t perfect already. I think the Chef was just trying to rub it in. We order two more specialty cocktails. The Grasshopper, which is a sweet, mint-flavored, after-dinner drink which makes a perfect dessert all in itself. We also tried a true classic cocktail, a B&B — which stands for Brandy & Benedictine. Both were delightful. The desserts were just as beautiful as the rest of the meal. Presentation is not a department they are lacking here at Yoi Sushi. We enjoyed the Green Tea and Vanilla Crème Brulée, which tasted just as delicious as it looks. Fresh fruit prepared perfectly. And the chocolate sweet goodness gave me a rush only chocolate can provide. The Five-Spice Molten Cake was served with white mousse and berries. I must say it is an extremely good idea to save room… or make room… for dessert. Yoi Sushi may be a restaurant at the La Torretta Resort, but is still the best Sushi restaurant in Conroe. So, if you get a craving for seafood while visiting Conroe, there is no better choice. Yoi Sushi is the perfect place to dine — whether you’re staying at the resort or not.

This place has such amazing potential but it was a bit of a disappointment. The food was good, not great, but… good. The service was a bit rash. I feel like the waitress could have been much more polite. We seemed to be rushed the entire time we were there. She asked if we would like the check without asking if we would like to order dessert. We all replied with a blank stare. Now the menu; I understand this is a sushi bar and I love sushi but the menu is extremely limited to only that. Does this place not have a kitchen?, because nothing from the menu is cooked, only prepared. It’s such a waste to offer such a limited menu to so many hotel guests. That being said I love sushi but the limited seating, menu, and questionable service will make me think twice about coming back. Oh yeah the view is spectacular. Bring your date here to impress.

The ONLY place I will eat sushi! Shaggy dog is awesome! I know someone who works at the resort and verified that the ingredients for sushi are fresh daily! Right next to the piano bar which is really nice. Only downfall would be if the resort is booked at capacity for events it is loud in piano bar which ruins the laid back quiet atmosphere at piano bar. Overall, I love to go here!

HELLYAH – SUSHIINMONTGOMERY! Lemon infused caviar, whitefish, spicy tuna, lemongrass infused chream cheese, cilantro – I’m not even sure what else was in it. It was an off menu item created by the chef. It was probably the best tasting sushi I’ve ever had in my whole LIFE! I didn’t even sully the taste with wasabi. Maybe I hit the place on the right night, maybe they’ve hired a new chef. All I know is we just kept ordering rolls until we’d exhauted the menu and he just started making things up – and those were the absolute best. The Baked Alaskan and the Sake Maki were great. The spicy tuna was just the basic, but not bad by any means. Ingredients were very fresh, so I’m a little confused about the low marks from other reviewers. The service was great. This is a family resort, but the sushi bar is not set up for young-uns. It’s basically attached to the resort’s piano bar. However they do have tables outside and the folks with the screaming kiddies were awesome about using these tables. Beautiful sunset and lake view. Drinks were half price that Thursday night, which was also a nice.

My seaweed salad was delish!!! My friends spicy tuna roll was scary to say the least! «That tuna has a tan!» She didn’t die, so that’s a plus. The waitstaff was great though. What wasn’t, and earned this place one star, was the supposed sushi chef that would walk out every so often to yell at someone, «I’ve got food in my window» The problem I have with this is that the place is the size of a thimble. So it’s another example of either a chef or manager that feels that’s it’s beneath them to walk 5 feet and deliver it themselves. That aside, me and my companion are lounging, trying to enjoy our food and drinks without hearing you yell at people! This entire«resort» fell short for these very reasons. It’s one thing to hear an entire table of kids(and the adults with them) banging on the glasses with chop sticks making an unbearable racket, but for this guy to make it worse? With that said, thanks to the waitress, you yourself earned 5 stars. Great service, personable, and never snapped when I myself would have told him… well never mind.

Sushi in Montgomery!!! Expect to pay a premium. Del Lago has been renovated and it looks spectacular. I was excited to see a Sushi Bar open up at the location as well. My wife and 2 year old decided to check it out last night. This is not the first time the 2 year old has been to eat sushi but it will be the last time he goes here. It’s really not a place for a 2 year old. Luckily there weren’t any other customers around for our little fellow to bother. Nice heavy wood tables furnish the actual sushi bar, but we chose to dine in the wine bar just behind it. The wine bar is furnished with large low«coffee» tables and several large comfy couches and was quite elegant. Beer selection was a bit limited though the Budweiser American Ale I had was better than I expected. My wife’s Pomegranate Mojito was one of the best I’ve had though. It was obviously a true mojito and not some mixer. The sushi: I mentioned expensive. Well it was also fresh and quite artfully presented. I count presentation for about half the rating of a true sushi bar. The sashimi sampler I had however was awkward to eat in part I believe because of the way in which the pieces were cut. Additionally we had two rolls. A California roll with the additional topping of baked alaskan king crab and a scallop roll topped with a mango purée. Both were good. But there was something about the cool Ca roll with a warm topping that seemed odd. The scallop roll was pretty good and different from other rolls I’ve had. Our total price for all this was probably about 40 to 50% more than what we usually get out of a Sushi restaurant for. Since it’s convenient we may go again. But for the money I’d likely drive to Conroe or the Woodlands.
