Impressed. Maybe not super complex flavors, but Whyte Horse Winery does a very good job. I hope this place continues to evolve. Fantastic ambiance, an old farm house, friendly owners. Well worth the trip. A treasure for Monticello.

Fun little wine tasting. Great service and good/decent wine. It’s a good experience for a winery in the Midwest. If driving through or live around central or northern Indiana, I would recommend giving it a visit. You get 6 free wine tastings and decent prices for a bottle or glass. Not much to do after the tasting but a fun mini getaway on a Saturday.

Surprised I didn’t take the chance to visit this winery when it opened up in my backyard years ago. Instead I decided to try it after I had moved away from Indiana, and when I was back on vacation. Certainly regret not coming out sooner. When they first built the place I was skeptical as to why anyone would want to build a winery in Monticello, but it’s very clear it was a good move. Beautifully little winery with a small vineyard behind the main store. I remember what used to be there before this winery was built. An old shack with corn fields. I used to browse around that area and even played paintball back there a few times around that shack. Anyways on my visit I did some wine tasting, and it was free. Introduced to nearly almost all of their wines. I did paired tasting with my g/f and we split the wines allowing to us to get more tasting. We were there for probably an hour looking around and tasting. Great visit will be back for sure the next time I come back to Monti. If i still lived in Monticello this would be a regular spot for me to get wine. Really wish I would of taken advantage of it when I lived half a block from it. Ended up buying the red table wine Black Beauty, and their white Riesling wine. The Black Beauty is a red dessert wine with a touch of blackberries and sweetness. Don’t typically like sugary wines, but this one isn’t overly sweetened and taste great. The white Riesling is a semi-dry wine with the aromas of peach and honeysuckle. This was a good white wine. Nothing spectacular, but I would buy it again.

Great wine! And who can pass up a free wine tasting! Love the novelty items in the shop as well. Very important, don’t forget to bring ID. Even if your over eighty, I’m sure they will refuse you without ID!

My husband and I visited on Saturday afternoon this past weekend. It was kind of deserted, which surprised me! Only a few other people were around, milling about outside, etc. We walked inside the main entrance, were greeted by the girl at the tasting bar, and kind of perused the gift shop for a few minutes before working up the nerve to approach the bar for a tasting.(We’re new to this winery thing, haha!) We tried quite a few wines, drier for him, sweeter for me, and in no time had picked out a few to purchase. Tranquility, Black Beauty(really yummy blackberry table wine) and Traminette(which is the one made from the grapes they grow on the grounds… the rest are imported from other areas). The prices seemed very fair, the girls at the counter were friendly, and the grounds and building were beautiful and peaceful. This is a little gem in the heart of Indiana, and one that I’d recommend visiting! It was great, especially for those who aren’t familiar with what types of wine there are and want to try some out in a small, non-intimidating setting. We were very pleased with our visit and will keep this place in mind when visiting home(Lafayette) to see family! :)

I went in November with some friends. It’s a cute farmhouse in the middle of no where Indiana. We tasted some good wines and enjoyed a couple bottles in the lounge. The winery can also be rented for private events for a reasonable rate and works with two caterers or you can bring in your own food. My only complaint is that it is too far from Lafayette but I think it is worth the drive(as long as you can find a DD).

So I’ll admit, I had really low expectations for this place. It’s in a tiny, nondescript town in Indiana. It’s not well advertised… blah, blah. I was totally blown away and really happy with what I found. I tried at least 8 wines and all of them were the bomb. I am a dry red kind of dude but even the sweet wines meant business. We decided to stay for a bottle(the dolce white, try it. superb) and bought some cheese– only to find out they were out of crackers. Not to worry though. They grabbed some from the back and cut up the cheese and everything. It was a nice gesture and I’m all about gestures. On top of all that it was really quaint yet elegant. Overall, a superb wine-drinking experience. Conclusions: Wine– 5 of 5 *‘s Service– 5 of 5 *‘s Price– $$ Atmosphere– 5 of 5 *‘s
