Great environment, and always busy! Amazing selection of hot sauces to choose from, but be careful some will pop your eyes out!!! It would be 4 star worthy if the food was less expensive. The great thing about Mexican style cuisine is its affordability; which this is on the highest end of that spectrum. Maybe I’ve been spoiled from West Coast Mexican style food where all tacos are $ 1.50 and giant burritos are $ 6.00. Regardless, I highly recommend checking them out if your passing through town.

We came in with a party of 6 adults and 2 kids; we had chicken burrito bowl with Colorado sauce, fish tacos, carnitas, yam and black bean tacos, a chicken quesadilla, and tried several different types of their home made hot sauce. Food was excellent, service was quick and friendly. Location is easy to get to with street parking.

Good food, not much in the way of ambiance, but the tacos were tasty. The salsa station is a bit confusing and there was a bit of a wait since there was only one person working but overall quite good.

Such a good find and delicious stop. The pupusas were delicious.

We ordered I think 4 different tacos, all of which were delicious plus a side of guac. The tacos were made fresh in front of us and came out seasoned very nicely. We used some of the 6(?) sauces to add to the flavor, but it wasn’t necessary. The guac was a little bland and could have used a little more lime/salt maybe. Main reason why I took off the 1 star is for 2 to have lunch it was over $ 40(which is a bit much for just a small taco joint in my opinion). If you don’t mind splurging though I’d recommend getting a couple tacos.

Great food. Very casual laid back atmosphere. Nothing fancy just really good food. Chicken enchiladas verdes were very tasty with fresh ingredients and made to order.

Driving through the area while working and decided to stop in. Tiny little establishment, but the fish tacos were incredible! Everything is very fresh, and they cook right in front of you. There is also a homemade salsa«station.» Yum! Only negative I have is that there was one person working when I was there(at noon.) They had to take my order, ring me out, and cook my food. Maybe bring one more person in?

I’m from San Antonio, TX and I’m stationed in Connecticut. One can only imagine how much I miss the Mexican food back home in SA. I drove to Montpelier for the first time today and stumbled upon The Mad Taco. I was curious to try it and boy I was not disappointed! I had the al pastor tacos with cilantro and shredded cheese. I can honestly say that these tacos are the best that I’ve had this far north and were pretty close to matching the flavor of those back in SA. I would totally recommend this place! The hot sauces were also amazing! I recommend the«happy birthday» sauce. It had a good amount of spice and great flavor!

We stopped here on the way to Burlington. A hole in the wall with lovely people making delicious fresh food. The carnitas were awesome. We also had pupusas which were full of corn flavor and topped with kimchi. All around good!

Nicest staff, they’re cool enough to balance out the super spicy sauces! I have had a wonderful experience every single time, and I go often because the food is consistently delicious.

Over priced and not very good. No seasoning and food tastes like it comes from a can. Pico was very disappointing.

I had heard alright reviews this place, but left unhappy(to say the least). Stopped in to grab a quick lunch on a weekday in what appeared to be a manageable lunch crowd — if I had known they could not had less than 10 customers at one time I would have called an hour ahead of time. I placed an order for a taco salad, which came to just over 13 bucks & waited 20 minutes for the order to be prepared while listening to the obnoxious banter of the cooks. They actually served 5 walk in customers before me. When served there was no acknowledgement or apology for the tardiness, which is distasteful. The food was alright, but nothing more than that. All in all, the prices were too high for what you get, the food prep was not sanitary one cook did not wear gloves, and the attitude was terrible. I will not return but instead will support the other great eateries in Montpelier. Less than a ¼ mile in either direction there is far better Mexican w/great service.

Dope and double dope. Homemade hot sauce adventure park. The tacos are generous and delicious, if you can enjoy the fact that they are quite Americanized and hippyized. Handmade guacamole to order. Have a Topper while you are at it. And more hot sauces. But – they are not cheap…

They have a delicious selection of burritos. I like that they didn’t have an overwhelming selection. It was basic, and there weren’t a ton of options but each option was delicious. I got a Vegan regular burrito. I added some of their fancy hot sauces to it. They are delicious but please take caution. They aren’t kidding about the heat!

Love the place! You can tell all the ingredients are fresh and everything is made to order. I got«The Mad Tacos»…carnitas tacos. If you like hot sauces and are in the Montpelier, VT area… BAM! Get at it.

We went to the Montpelier restaurant, at the insistence and begging of my 8 year old. And it did NOT disappoint. The food was so tasty, and we enjoyed the banter with staff. The sauces were exactly as they made out to be. We’ll be back soon.

Great Tacos and Burritos. Best Mexican food in central VT. Homemade hot sauces vary from neutral(0) to you might choke to death(10). I usually try to stick around 5 for sanity. It is a very relaxed vibe and the staff is extremely friendly and willing to strike up conversations about anything. The dishes can be both meat centric or vegetarian depending on your wants and wishes. Excellent rotating 2 – 3 local draft beer offerings. My only complaint is some of the dishes can be a bit greasy/messy.

Miles to go before I sleep. Miles to go before I eat. Or at least that’s what it would have been if it hadn’t been for Unilocal in helping me find this great lunch time find. We’d been on the road for hours and we starving. We decided to stop in Montpelier for lunch and Unilocal recommended Mad Taco. The Mad Hatter greeted us at the window, but inside, it was all Star Wars. Confusing themes, but the flavor of Mad Taco completely rocks. I ordered two slow cooked tacos with avocado and cilantro. The slow cooked pork was so juicy and tender. The fresh cilantro was a great complement to the pork. My bf ordered a wet burrito that was filled with pork, rice, beans, and avocado in Christmas style(half red sauce and half green sauce). The red sauce is a chili chocolate sauce(a type of mole) and the green sauce is a tomatillo sauce. The burrito was delicious as well. What makes Mad Taco worth a top is the incredible collection of homemade hot sauces. I was a big fan of their green sauce and my bf loved with Jedi Killer(the spiciest sauce they had). He often complains that hot sauces aren’t really hot, but this one definitely was. It made my eyes water when I tasted it. As a Californian, I’m often disappointed in Mexican food outside of CA and the Southwest, but this place colored me impressed. You’d be mad to miss Mad Taco if you’re going by Montpelier.
