Took the kids after school/daycare for a treat. By three pm the display cases were pretty sparse. I asked if try had a bathroom(with three kids five and under with me) and the reply was they were for customers only. Duh– I’d be happy to order but I’m pretty sure you don’t want one of my kids to have an accident on your floor. It was pretty off putting but I ordered and paid and then asked to use the bathroom again, which you have to enter through a side door and is connected to the kitchen. The croissant was good, my two kids enjoyed their selected treats but it didn’t blow my mind.

After having experienced an awful tasting Kouign Amann at Bouchon Bakery in Beverly Hills, I was very much looking forward to the Kouign Amann which is the specialty of Baked on Oceanview. I went on their website to find their hours since it was not listed on Unilocal.Lo & behold, their homepage announced that they will be «CLOSEDINDEFINITELY» starting MAY10th, 2014, and to check their website on occasion to see if there is a reopening. For those interested in the origin of Kouing Aman: The Kouing-Aman(as spelled in the authoritative Larousse Gastronomique) which is a flat Breton cake from the Douamenez region. The name refers to Bread & Butter in Breton which is a Celtic language and is in the same group as Irish, Gaelic, Manx, Welsh, Cornwall. Apparently, Celtic people from southern Britain migrated and populated Bretagne region of France back in the 5th — 6th centuries. The name Kouing-Aman sounded exotic & «is made from bread dough enriched with sweet butter or heavy cream and baked with sugar on top that becomes caramelized under heat. It is best eaten WARM.» The Kouing-Aman at Bouchon Bakery was served stone cold & hard to boot. I was looking forward to sampling the Kouing-Aman at Baked on Oceanview, but will have to await its reopening. So I give it 3 Unilocal stars as a tentative rating which I will re-evaluate once the bakery opens again. C’est Dommage!

This is a cute bakery in Montrose. My boyfriend and I wanted to order enough to fill us up so we picked a couple items. cinnamon roll — they warmed it up for us but meh roast beef sandwich — roast beef, cheddar cheese, baby greens, tomatoes, with horseradish cream cheese on a crunch roll. The sandwich was good, but it was a little dry, so I had to ask for more horseradish. peach pie — it had a cute heart on top. I am not quite sure if the peach was fresh. It was good though. kouign amann — a sweet caramelized croissant in the shape of a muffin/cupcake. They offer samples of this. You should try it. I will keep coming back for this.

The ladies over at Baked on Oceanview made the best tiramisu for my friends birthday yesterday!!! Everyone was beyond impressed, flavored were amazing and it was so light and fluffy. We couldn’t be happier!

Not impressed. My son ordered a ham and cheese croissant, he got a cold one, should I even ask for it to be warmed up? I ordered bread pudding, got cold hard bread pudding. Asked to get it warned to and it was pretty good:) Ordered hot cocoa, but they didn’t have marshmallows or whip cream… Weird. Overall, is stick with Starbucks or coffee bean at this point. Just wanted something different.

A tiny bakery located in the heart of Montrose offers pastries and lunch items. Their specialty pastry is the kouign amann(pronounced ‘queen’). It is a layered puff pastry that’s not so layered, but rather dense and moist inside. A crunchy and chewy exterior that has been caramelized with a sweet vanilla flavor. With cinnamon and vanilla accents, this dessert had been perfected by them. Their cream puff is lightly sweet with a fluffy inside cream base. Not heavy at all. Unfortunately, the pastry selection is limited and not all that they offer is delicious and moist. Their kouign amann is so perfect, I would just come here for that reason only. They are the«Queen» of all kouign amann’s!

Kouign-Amann, where have you been all my life? I am in love. You know that wonderful crème brûlée moment when you break the hard caramel topping to get to the yummy custard below? Now imagine you’re having that moment but in bread. That’s right… translate it into bread and you will have a Kouign-Amann, which I had never heard of before setting foot in this bakery. Coffee is truly excellent. Fantastic. And the first refill is free. Hoya. The only issue is that it’s supposedly a bakery, right? But when I requested a loaf of bread at 8:30 in the morning, they didn’t have any. That’s right. A bakery without bread. But all was forgiven. Kouign-Amann and coffee to go, please! Parking is free in the lot.

This is where you go if you’re looking for heaven in the mouth. I’ve never had anything sooooo flaky, so rich in butter and sugar as the Koung Amans at Baked On Oceanview. When you bite into every layer of perfection, then you’ll know you’ve discovered that sweet heaven. Cinnamon twists are my second favorite here, and the chocolate croissant could be a little better. Porto’s bakery reigns supreme in the chocolate croissant department, in my opinion. Staff are very friendly and happy to help.

I went here last week with a few co-workers. We work in Pasadena and there is just an incredible amount of food to try in that town. I would say 90% of is is outlandishly delicious. Anyway, this is a small bakery, probably family run. I must first start off by saying that the bread is pretty damn amazing. It should be as it seems to be their core product. I guess there next thought was, we have amazing bread, we should make sandwiches! Well I think they only half succeeded at this. The sandwiches were ok at best. I got a turkey sandwich on a dutch crunch roll. A dutch crunch roll is similar to a french roll with with a bit more crunch to the bread it was really good. The rest of the sandwich though was obviously some Costco ingredients. They turkey was OK at best, etc… It made only a mediocre sandwich. The desserts were amazing though. OMG! I had some of the brownie and the cinnamon roll, but the crowning glory, the one that made me water at the mouth, stand up on my chair and shout«I’ve A Kings Hunger» was the coconut cream pie *Drool* laskjdflksdnvladsknvslakvm, cv Sorry the Drool shorted out my keyboard. Anyway to recap. Bread = AMAZING Desserts = Drool Inducing Sandwiches and Limited Menu = Please use better ingredients especially for the price

There’s just nothing like fresh baked goods anymore with an awesome hot cup of coffee. Starbucks at the corner has nothing on these people. I’m sorry. I just can’t express enough how well tasty their pastries are. It has just the right sweetness and tartness in every bite. I walk in thinking to only buy one piece but end up with 2 or 3 to devour for the rest of the afternoon. Shameful and proud of it.

I had the Oven Roasted Turkey sandwich and an Iced coffee. They were okay, nothing special about it. Both tasted like something I make at home, which I should have done instead. The ingredients were fresh so I can’t complain about that. The service was friendly. Maybe next time I’ll try their sweets, but most likely will not go there for another sandwich or coffee.

I’ve been hanging out around Montrose for over a year and I only found this place on my last day in LA. I love being able to build my own panini: D I had roast beef, swiss and avocado on rye with garlic aioli sauce. The roast beef tasted a little bland… but when I added the salad dressing that came with my side salad, it tasted great! Service was a bit slow but they were very nice so I’m not going to take away any stars for that. If there was more flavor to the roast beef, I would’ve given this place 4 stars!

This is a really nice family owned business with awesome customer service. I’ve gotten my last couple of cakes for my kids parties here and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. I like to find unique party ideas for all of my events, right down to the cake and what I love about the staff at Baked is the level of creativity they bring to the table. I can throw out a few ideas at them that probably wouldn’t make a lick of sense to anyone else and they come up with amazing options every time. They pay great attention to detail and take great pride in what they do. Keep up the great work!

The coffee is good here. I went as an option to Starbucks. I wanted a quick breakfast and got a croissant stuffed with spinach, cheese and onion. Yuck! It was awful. I threw it away after a couple of bites. I also had a apple struddel with was pretty good. I like the coffee and atmosphere with the outside patio, the pastries, not so much. Now I have only had a couple so I don’t know what the others are like. Not too sure if I will try the specialty or not.

Came here to get some Kouign Aman for my friends. Had a sample of it there. So yummy! But I got the banana nut brûlée cake instead. It was just ok. A bit too dry. I’d definitely come back for the Kouign Aman though!

I work right below this bakery, so I can say that I go here very often. I really like their Turkey sandwich, it’s always made fresh. They also have pastries and coffee which are also very good. Since everything is made fresh your not always guaranteed to get what you want. but they have something yummy every day so I guess that makes up for it. The owner and the staff are all nice. They usually have samples of their new stuff which is great! I would recommend this place.

Stopped for a couple of sandwiches for lunch one day. The rare roast beef was good. I think their bread made the sandwich. Could have done for a bit more horseradish cream cheese. A lot more. The misses enjoyed her caprese. Pesto spread was applied proportionally for the sandwich. We also got a donut muffin. Clever idea. Muffin covered in sugar like a sugar donut. Just ok, pretty dry. The biggest suggestion is to invest in some cups. Be prepared, if you order a water, to refill constantly from the plastic shot glasses they’ll give you. Kind of annoying to get up every 5 seconds for another shot.

We ordered a custom-flavored chocolate cake with peanut butter filling to serve 75 for my graduation party and everything turned out delicious! Usually peanut butter fillings take on a weird/fake taste, but Baked’s unique recipe made the peanut butter taste amazing! The chocolate cake was perfectly moist, and although I usually do not enjoy frostings, this one was light and tasty. The cake was incredible, but better yet was the service they provided us. We ordered the custom cake just a week before the event and the owner and baker went out of their way to securely package the cake and help me situate the it in the car in a way that would preserve the structure(it was 2-tier) on the ride home! I highly recommend Baked for all occassions.

You know it when it’s a good, no, GREAT bakery when you walk inside and it stops you in your track. That wonderful smell that makes you close your eyes and breathe in deep. That’s Baked on Ocean View. What a wonderful, wonderful find this past Sunday. We were walking around Montrose Farmers Market when my friend said, let’s go to that new bakery around the corner. We walked into Baked and I was transported to an earlier time when baking was a prized culinary art and not a mass produced processed product. OK, it all comes down to two words: Kouign Aman(Pronounced«Queen Ah-man».) That’s their specialty and gateway goodie to all their offerings. Among my other favorites: Any of their cream puffs, the savory ham/cheddar or turkey/havarti croissants, peach or blackberry hand pies are really good and their cookies: Mexican Wedding, Coconut Macaroons, Oatmeal Raisins… all yummy, none cloyingly sweet. All the ladies(and gentlemen in the back) that work there are very nice, helpful and friendly. They happily will answer any questions you have on the baked goods and can recommend items to your liking. It’s fresh, refreshing and so much better than competing nearby bakeries such as Berolina or Leons. Give Baked on Ocean View a try — you will not be disappointed.

A friend of mine told me about a new bakery that opened in Montrose, so when I was close one afternoon I took my kids there for lunch. My kids are very picky and they offered to make a grilled cheese panini. My daughter spied a HUGE cinnamon roll and had to have it. Her words« .DELICIOUS!!» I have to say, that I totally agree with her… They also make whoopie pies that my son thought were awesome…“because they put«whooped cream» in them :). He wanted them for his birthday so we special ordered them. I told the owner that he was having a ninja birthday party and she said she could turn the pies sideways and add two chocolate chips for eyes and make them look like Ninja’s…they were a huge hit… I will try to upload a picture.
