We enjoyed the drinks. We try to find stuff local where we are. Friendly staff and great inside atmosphere.

Pet peeve: microfoam that is more macrofoam. Like make-a-santa-claus-bubble-bath-beard foam. Like forget-the-spoon-I-need-a-chisel foam. I got my hopes up because they warned me when I ordered ‘this is a traditional macchiato!’, but it was the standard over-frothed monstrosity on top of meh espresso. +1 star for the large, comfortable seating area and because it’s friggin Montrose; I guess expectations need to be adjusted

We are not coffee drinkers but enjoy hanging out and sipping hot chocolate with our kiddos in the winter time. We always feel welcome here and it’s a great atmosphere. They have good smoothies, too.

Just moved to town and trying the local places for my fix. So much better than Starbucks! Fast, friendly attentive staff and excellent house roasted coffee.

My first visit to Looney Bean took place in December, and I wished I would have stopped by sooner! The atmosphere is cozy and reminiscent of a small ski resort, so definitely what you’d expect from a place like Montrose. The baristas are also very friendly and patient(which is great if you aren’t familiar with the menu). If you’re interested, merchandise of various sorts are also available for purchase, which was a nice touch. I ordered the Elvis, if my memory serves me, and this white chocolate mocha was amazing! The presentation of the drink was also wonderful, finishing touches included shaved white chocolate on top that just melts in your mouth. My boyfriend, who isn’t much of a fan of coffee, thought my drink tasted alright but really liked the smoothie he ended up ordering. Menu diversity is a definite plus! Like most coffee shops, the prices were a little high, but worth it for the quality of both the beverages and the atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit, and I will definitely come back next time I’m in town! (Also, there’s a cute little drive-thru if you’re in a rush!)

Visiting from Denver. Delicious Bolivian dark roast coffee and blueberry scone. Very nice, open, comfortable space. Even smells sweet in here. Fast attentive service, however female(maybe shift lead/mgr) was a little rude/impatient to her staff right in front of me, which was awkward. Saving that for when customers are not there, helps make a better experience.

So expensive. I love to support local businesses, however, it breaks the bank. The employees are really nice and The drive up is speedy! Other than that, you better have some serious cash to make this place your coffee commitment

Always our favorite coffee spot when we visit from Portland. The staff is super friendly, coffee is consistently good, and a very warm atmosphere inside. Great to sit and enjoy your beverage! What more could you ask for?

I always pick up a couple of bags of their Black Russian coffee beans. Nice friendly staff. The only draw back is that the music is usually too loud.

I had the macchiato and it while maybe not as dry as a standard macchiato(between a macchiato and a Gibraltar), it tasted perfect. The espresso was pulled just right. Great mouth feel, rich taste, sweet with a pleasant hint of sour. The wife got a dirty pumpkin chai and was over the moon that it was made with real pumpkin. Nice space, comfy chairs, the roaster right out where you can see, huge burlap coffee bags decorating the walls, and of course great drinks. Excellent place.

I don’t go in here very often. Not because of the service but because of my taste buds. To my taste buds the coffee is stronger than any other in town including Starbucks. The atmosphere is great. I’m always greeted with a smile but the coffee is too strong for me.

Love this coffee house! Living in a California beach town, coffee houses are abundant. I made several trips to Looney Bean while in the area. Comfortable atmosphere, beautiful lodge-feel architecture, and awesome, friendly, competent service. The coffee is delicious. The baristas made amazing foam — why is it so hard to find a coffee house that knows how to steam the milk right? It was a giant let down coming home and having sub par lattes and cappuccinos(I only felt this way after frequenting Looney Bean for a week). There is a nice selection of treats and other drinks as well. An added bonus if you are a dog lover, Looney Bean is dog-friendly! They even make«puppucinos» for your faithful companion — of course caffeine-free! Great place. I highly recommend treating yourself!

Great Mocha, I got the Velvet Elvis and it was fabulous. Staff was friendly and the pasties were yummy! Ambiance was great, reminded me of the great local shop we had back in Texas. Quiet and great place to get stuff done. I will be visiting in the future!

Second visit to Montrose, was here last year. I live in the SFBAYAREA. Not sure i was lucky last year or just not so lucky this year. Came in with my brother-in-law(SEATTLE), also visting, Staff a little stand-offish. Both our caps tasted like hot milk with some coffee flavoring. We must have got spoilt with our home caps. Time to try somewhere new. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Last year’s review from mid-June — The only other option of about 3 – 4 coffee shops in town. Staff are very nice. Coffee is very good and certainly beats the mug at SBX. Worth a trip for a morning Joe.

The owners have done a great job putting together a tasteful shop where customers are free to kick back and relax. A warm log interior, a cozy fireplace, rustic granite, and the coffee roaster visible behind the bar help make The Looney Bean a memorable place. Their prices are easily the highest I’ve encountered. Yet I understand that when I go to Looney Bean, I go to open my Apple, lounge in a leather arm chair, enjoy the view of the San Juan Mountains, and warm myself at the fireside, all while sipping a triple-shot house mocha. With the exception of the mocha, you can’t get any of that at *bucks. Even if you could find all that at your local mega corporate coffee burner, your drink would taste something like a smoldering vacuum cleaner belt. This is in addition to the fact that I favor their approach to roasting and brewing over any other coffee house in Montrose. Their coffee really is the best around. In my dozens of visits, I have never had an issue with the friendliness or professionalism of the staff. In fact, I have been offered to have my custom drink remade as many times as necessary to make it just the way I want. They treat their customers well, and my support is with them. I highly recommend their Russian roast in a French press; it makes for a wonderful, multicultural coffee experience. .
