We ate lunch recently at the McMechen Inn. What a truly lovely experience. We ate in the small dining room with a large, impressive painting of US Grant hanging on the wall. I had a delicious chicken salad and my husband had a Cuban sandwich. The food presentation was excellent. The service was great and the Inn staff friendly. The café attached to the Inn is cozy and is well decorated and provides a country feel to it. One of the staff gave us a tour of the Inn. We loved the décor and ambiance. The main dining room has a gorgeous chandelier and I think there is a painting of Robert E Lee in that room. The Civil War history of the Inn is fascinating, and one wonders if the ghosts of Civil War soldiers from both sides inhabit the Inn at night. We hope to visit the Inn for dinner with friends from the Washington, DC, area soon. A true find and a gem for Hardy County, WV.

Amazing food and incredible service. Prices are very very reasonable. The menu is the best in the area. The mashed sweet potatoes are to die for. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I’m looking forward to eating there again very soon. Sunday brunch, here I come. I hear the Bloody Mary bar is excellent too. So if you are looking for the best restaurant and bar in Moorefield — this is it!

This was a little of a surprise for me. They converted an old, I’m assuming, historic house into this restaurant/bed and breakfast. Moorefield is a super small town and coming from California I never expect too much from the food places. I mean — the main thing I remember about eating in Moorefield is the McDonald’s further down the road. The food was not super gourmet or anything but it was solid and tasted pretty good.
