The food is good, the servers are very nice, and the food came out fast. What I can’t get over is that every time we go there, we go on a wait list that’s 5 – 6 people deep… but there’s always 8 – 10 empty tables. Not sure why they have to wait to sit people when there’s obviously open tables, and the food comes out quick.

Good spot for a breakfast. Visiting from out of town but have eaten here twice on my stay and both meals were incredible.

Our favorite brunch spot outside of the city. It’s quaint but still buzzing. The staff is friendly and food is always better that the last time.

I met my wife and My parents here for lunch, Service was really quick and they had a really nice menu with alot of really good sandwich options. I got myself a turkey club which was awesome. I am keeping this place place on my list of options when i just want a good sandwich fast. While we were there actually several of my wifes coworkers from Lowes came over, so if they have the Lowes crowd it must be good.

I had the chicken and waffles, they were great. I will be ordering them again. As for the service, ours was great. Our waiters name was Gabe.

The food is wonderful, but this restaurant actually has some of the worst service this side of the Mississippi. I came in with a group of 4 and it took them 25 minutes to get us water. The Huevos Rancheros is extremely tasty, but it’s not worth wasting my entire afternoon.

We’ve stopped in to Sun Up Café the past few Sundays for breakfast and/or lunch. It’s a charming little place that would be nice to make«our place» for breakfast, and it seems half of Mooresville feels the same way as this place is PACKED constantly. That can be both a blessing and a curse, especially to a new business. I think, like many, people want to see and help the Langtree restaurants succeed and they are doing it by supporting these businesses with their dollars. I have had excellent service here. I even wrote that on my receipt after my first visit because my server was busy but she always made it back to check on us and I was pleased at how efficiently she juggled everyone. I have had terrible service here with a order gone wrong and no server coming back to check. After running out of soda and waiting the entire meal I saw someone from a large table bring their drinks up to the bar himself to get them refilled so I had to follow suit. Lunchtime service tends to be very good though. As far as the food goes the first visit we went traditional breakfast(bacon, eggs, toast, hash browns(I prefer the breakfast potatoes, I found), eggs with hollandaise). It was fine. A little bland but it was what it was. I looked around at other tables to see what they ordered and a light went on. Don’t go traditional here! I saw some gorgeous chicken n’ waffles(someone posted a pic on here, go look). I saw enormous pancakes. I saw amazing looking french toast. So next visits we started branching out to try all the fun ideas and it was good. So we came back. The service here begets the 3 star rating because it is an issue. Sun Up has been cursed with good publicity. And for a young and upcoming restaurant that can hurt them. Our visit this past Sunday we had to wait about 15 minutes which was fine. However, there were approximately 15 people packed inside the restaurant next to the host stand and I felt badly for the people who had the tables nearest the door, I had no idea how they could eat with people literally standing on top of them. Plus, only one door was unlocked so people were struggling to make room to open the only open door to let people out or more people in. Staffers were frantically clearing and seating tables as they opened up and it was obvious there wasn’t enough staff to handle all 110 seats being filled.(I saw a coworker of mine there and he told me the next day his server said THREE people had called out on a Sunday morning). They needed to stop seating all open tables and leave about 25% open and tell people why, some would have left but they would have understood. Instead people were pouring in and frustrated. Our server that visit came over promptly and took our order promptly and brought our first round of drinks promptly. When the food arrived mine wasn’t right. I waited for him to come back. And waited. And waited. And gave up and ate it. I needed another napkin desperately, couldn’t ask. I finished my soda and put the empty glass on the edge to catch his eye, we were in the center of the restaurant and he ran by numerous times as his tables were seated over and over but he never acknowledged us again. I saw the person mentioned above bring glasses to the bar for refills and gave up and bussed my own glass. After I did that the server came over with our check and we paid and released our table for the multitude still waiting to be seated. So, Sun Up, I want to like you. I do like you. But you’re not inexpensive(price range is in the $ 9 – 12 for breakfast and lunch). And you’re charging too much to give me the Denny’s service that I am getting. Make it cheaper and give me that bad service or keep it the same and give me good service(my preference, because I want to ultimately come there and support you.) Completely separate, I want to compliment their lunch service. Business is much slower so the servers are engaging and fun, service is quick and you can get in and seated and back to work in a reasonable time. The food looks and tastes great, see my pictures.

Unilocal says it opens at 6:30. Did not open til 7:00. Waitress not very pleasant. Don’t know what oil they use to fry things in, but trust me, it was nasty. Or perhaps the grill was not hot enough. My eggs and hubby’s hash were inedible. Only one pat of butter for 2 slices of toast. Cheese grits were instant and blah. Bacon like leather. Coffee too strong — like tar. Water was really good, tho.

Brunch was excellent. Service was terrible. 60% full of patrons on a saturday. We were seated. That’s all. I had to grab a waiter to say. Hello! We’re here to actually order. Eventually our food came out(different guy) chicken and waffles, and a turkey brie apple panini. We never got utensils. I got them. And extra napkins. Was it a bad day for their employee’s? Maybe! Food was to good to not go back. Fyi. Tip was miniscule. #sorrynotsorry

Definitely will come back. Service was very good. Slight wait, but typical for a Sunday morning. Breakfast was hot and good. Blueberry pancakes had blueberries in them, not just compote on top.yummy. Mimosa’s were only $ 6 and were quite generous. Only negatives — Host had no personality and they charge for each teabag. Would be better if they just served unlimited Lipton hot tea. But overall /worth the trip!

The food was good, the server was friendly and attentive. A little over priced for breakfast and the host could use a personality. I would come back again. If it wasn’t to early on Sunday I would’ve like to have tried there Bloody Mary.

I’m sure all the people around Langtree love the fact that they actually have food and booze close by now. Outside of going to Davidson, I can’t think of a better breakfast spot around. After a late night at the Kilted Buffalo and staying at a friend’s place close by, this was the obvious choice for brunch and bloody mary’s. When we walked in the quaint little spot about 10 deep I knew it might take a little while for me to get my booze, so I went straight to the bar. I then find out there is paperwork you have to fill out to get a bloody mary. I like the idea of having a build your own, without doing the work, but when I’m drinking a bloody mary I really don’t need to be making tough decisions. I went with top shelf vodka, house mix, add hot sauce, add bacon. It was awesome. The girl sitting beside me got add hot sauce, add tabasco, add horseradish. It didn’t look like it sat very well with her, lol. As per the food. A great selection of brunch type fare. Omelets, benedicts, and other top of the line breakfast choices. I had the shrimp and grit cake benedict. Absolutely perfectly poached eggs over fried cheesy grit cakes. Served with cajun shrimp and a bacon hollandaise. I would go ahead and give these guys a 5th star, but a few of my counterparts didn’t seem to have as top quality of food as me. One girls huevo’s rancheros had burnt tortillas. Another said her cheese steak wasn’t all that great. I’ll be back and will update.

Found this lovely restaurant on our way from Ohio home to Florida. If you are even remotely near this restaurant, you have to eat here. The staff was wonderfully friendly and the food was fast, fresh and incredibly delicious! We tried the shrimp and grits Benedict, the Charleston Benedict, chocolate chip waffle and the cheese omelette. Everything was perfection. Also worth noting is the coffee and bakery part of the café where they have a large selection of freshly made coffee, mochas, lattes, juices and bakery. We were too full to take a coffee to go but they looked really good. Mooresville was a great city to stay in with plenty of quality hotels, shops and restaurants. We will definitely make Moorseville our place to stop on future trips and the Sun Up Café our go-to place for meals and friendly faces.

Triple D Effect There is a term amoung foodies called the triple D effect. What it means is that otherwise good restaurants get a bunch of publicity, business is swamped, service goes to pot and you go from there. This is one of those cases. My wife and I were one of their first patorns when they opened. I was on another review site at the time and gave them a very good review. We’ve been several time since and the crowds have increased but the level of service and qualtiy of food has decreased to the point where in all good conciousness, can no loger given them more that than a minimal rating. Last time we went, even the server indicated that she was poised to write a negative review based on the fact that too few, were trying to do too much. A mark of poor mangement. I hope it get better because it started out fine and I’m always looking for a steady breakfast spot. Thought I had found one but I was wrong.
