The sugar cookies are like nothing you’ve ever had before. I get them every time I am home, and I do not like to share! Their chicken salad is also delicious with your choice of homemade bread — and the customer service is always friendly and helpful. I just ordered a 9″ cake for my Dad’s 80th birthday next weekend. I’m flying in to surprise him, and I know they will not let me down.

Excellent desserts. Rumors of receiving a free sugar cookie are definitely correct. I tried their butterscotch pie which was delicious. The free sugar cookie was no joke either. The one big consideration you’ll have to take into account is their hours. I personally had to carve out some time to make it there, so that’s my one negative point I have. Also this place is strangely not classified as a restaurant. This is definitely a place to visit while in town.

Absolutely wonderful!!! It reminds me of a bakery back home in Ukiah, CA called Schat’s Bakery. Family owned and operated this place has been wonderful for brunch while we are in Morehead. We will miss it when we go back to Lexington.

Oh my goodness, this place is delightful on so many levels. Staff is incredibly friendly and the bakery/​café is bright and cheery. Newcomers to Root-​A-​Bakers will be welcomed with a free, delicious iced sugar cookie. Our lunch — cheesy broccoli soup in a bread bowl and veggie quiche with muffin and fruit — was incredible. And, as if the cookie weren’t enough, we had dessert, too: chocolate peanut butter cake and chocolate/​cinnamon bun bread pudding. OMG! They’re cookies and cakes are also beautiful to behold. If you’re anywhere near Morehead, do yourself a favor and stop there for a bite.

I dream about the sugar cookies baked here when I haven’t been to Morehead in a long time. Add the braids, soups, sandwiches, salads, cakes, pies and cupcakes and you have the best bakery west of the Atlantic.
The owners and staff are perfectly nice and friendly. This is a great place to have lunch or a snack.
You won’t regret a visit.

It’s awesome, according to my kids. I like it, too. Great place to pick up a birthday cake. Cookies are quite good. My daughter Mary likes their apple bites. They also serve lunch; grilled cheese, other sandwiches, braids, soup. Very friendly staff.

Quaint little shoppe — try the chicken sandwich in a croissant bun with French onion soup — service may be a tad slow but worth the wait !
