Centennial Recreation Center

We just joined and WE LOVE it so far. The kids had a great time swimming and daddy got some cardio in the gym. Win win for all of us. The price isn’t bad at all for our family of 6 either. Most places we have to pay at least double with our family size.

I used to be a member here, and I’ll occasionally try and get a quick workout in here. The staff are super nice, and it’s definitely a community vibe here. I’ve never had any problems here. I think they charge somewhere between $ 5 to $ 10 for a day pass. Monthly memberships are a good deal if you’ve got a family. Locker rooms are pretty clean, the workout area is kind of small but never too crowded, and the gym courts aren’t bad. They usually have activities such as basketball, volleyball, and classes in the gym. I think there’s two studios here that offer classes like kickboxing, yoga, spin class, etc. I think it’s a great place for Morgan Hill, much better than any of the alternatives. As far as playing basketball, it’s meh. Sometimes, there will be some high school players and some older people playing. Don’t get me wrong, I like playing here, but I would prefer a busier place with full court pick up games running all the time. There’s also an indoor pool here along with a skatepark in the parking lot. It’s too bad the skatepark enforces full pads, because it’s got a lot of potential, and I could see it drawing a lot of attention from people out of town.

I really enjoyed our visit here. Unlike many of the waterparks I found on Unilocal,this one wasnt over crowded and was very well maintained. The indoor pool concept was amazing because you don’t have to worry about sunscreen or the weather outside. Plus it was super easy to park and to get to/​from the restrooms inside. The facility was the perfect size for both our 7 year old and 2 year old. Since it wasn’t too crowded, we were able to easily keep an eye on both. They had a handful of lifeguards around each side of the pool and rotated them frequently so they were always alert. They were also very active and quickly corrected the kids if they got too wild. I also liked that they had an outdoor patio area so you could bring your own lunch and snacks, as well as layout in the sun. I’m definitely coming back again soon.

I prefer this gym over others because of the kids zone. It’s a great area for my kids to play with both indoor and outdoor structures for them. My kids love going there and I get some time to myself once a day for 90 mins :) It is a little pricey, however if you are a parent, I highly recommend The CRC over any other gym.
My son also had a swim class today for the first time and he had a blast. They made him feel very comfortable (he’s 4) and I look forward to his next swim class!
My husbands only complaint is that he wishes they had a hot tub or steam room, maybe in the future though ;)

Love this gym. I’ve been a member here since 2006. I signed up mainly because of their kids zone (childcare) because I was pregnant with my first child and wanted to make sure that the gym I attended had a clean childcare area with plenty of room. My oldest is now almost 8 years old and she still enjoys going to the kids zone because they have so many activities for kids from infant through school age. The staff is also always very nice and they are great with the kids.

I rate this place as average. I took off a point due to price and a point due to variety.
ENVIRONMENT: this place looks huge on the outside but on the inside it really isn’t. Half of the place is dedicated to the physical side and the other half is dedicated to senior, teens, and kids day care type of things. It’s right by a skate park that is free to the public and a normal public park.
(lack of) VARIETY: the physical side of the building is dedicated to swimming, basketball, and gym.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I do recommend the pool if you are looking to swim some laps, however, there are only 3 lanes. There is enough room for 2 people in one lane but they say that the max for each lane is 5 people?! It’s convenient to have a water slide on the side if you ever get tired and a water play place on the other end for kids. They have an outside patio to dry off. You won’t get sunburned because it’s an inside pool. I personally don’t recommend the actual gym room though. The gym is as commercial as it gets in a very condensed space. It reminds me of chickens that are stuffed into a coupe.
PRICE: the price for a membership is way too much than what it offers. They do have day passes that are worth it if you really are only trying to get a swim day in or wanted to get a quick workout in.
CONCLUSION: I would only buy a day pass to go swim some laps. It’s pretty much the only place in town to do so unless the aquatic center is open in the summer.

It is a Y, and they have many good programs and options for seniors, kids, etc.
They have several programs and offer a number of services that are good– but those services are often cancelled or changed with little or no notice (e.g. immunization clinics).
As others have said, the pool is geared mainly for kids and lanes are extremely limited for adult swimmers. Pool area seems dirty and «used» despite regular maintenance. Lockers, bathrooms and showers are well maintained and generally very clean!
Gym equipment is spotty but OK. Too much equipment is crammed into too small a space (like many comml gyms), and it’s getting worse; some equipment is never used (but stays forever), other equipment that is used regularly disappears without notice. Equipment fails and isn’t repaired — ever. Changes are made with little regard for customers and often seem like they’re based on the staff’s opinion rather than actual use of equipment or any sort of consistent plan.
Staff is friendly but not very knowledgeable; often make up excuses or just fabricate answers when they don’t know.

My family of 5 recently joined this gym. Our other gym closed without noticed so we were forced to find another gym. I’m actually happy that our previous gym did close. The CRC has turned out to be a fantastic place for my family and I to work out. My daughter and I attend the 5:30 am classes 5 days a week and the cycling classes 2 evenings a week. My 3 boys use the weights 5 nights a week. The only complaint I have is that the weight area is very small and it gets packed.
The instructors are great! And the staff is fantastic. We love working out here.

Horrible customer service. Unfriendly staff. After emailing the facility 4 times (twice to the membership desk, once to the recreation director, and once to facility director) requesting that my family membership be cancelled and getting no response, I called the membership desk. I explained the situation and was placed on hold. After being on hold for a while, an employee picked up and said they never received my email and would need to fax in a form. I then drove to the facility to deal with the issue in person. The employee was not friendly and made me feel like a bother. This attitude has been a common occurrence at this particular facility for a while. Having been an employee of the YMCA myself for many years in the past, I know that is not the image the Y wants to convey. If you want a true Y experience, go to a different facility that isn’t full of snobs.

Nice facility and the pool area is fun for kids, although for an indoor pool, I was surprised at how cool the water was. It was slightly heated but not warm enough I thought. My 18 month old son was shivering and sneezing. I asked what the temp was and if they could raise it a little and they told me it had to stay at that temp. I planned on coming here with my son to swim during the winter, but the pool isn’t warm enough. Darn.

This has by far been the best gym I’ve been to (and I’ve been to a lot!). In reading some of the other reviews, I see they’ve gotten docked on not having specific equipment, which doesn’t concern me too much. I don’t need a squat machine to do squats…
The classes they offer are awesome. I’ve done just about every one of them from Yoga to TRX, from boot camp to HIIT. The instructors are tough and want to push you to get better, and they take the time to notice you there so they can help you improve every time. They do quarterly evaluations on the classes and instructors too, so you have the chance to let them know how scheduling, etc works for you, and they are constantly changing things up.
This is the only gym with childcare that I trust. I’ve been to many that are not only dirty, but downright scary. The childcare workers are kind and helpful when dropping off. And they take the time to know your child (ren). My boys have a lot of fun in there, especially when they break off to do the lego building (that’s a bonus all on its own!)
The pool area (both here and at the Aquatic Center) are fun for kids. I’m not a lap swimmer, so I’m happy with both facilities geared to children activities.
Classes that are offered for kids are abundant. We’ve done soccer, karate, and golf so far. And have been happy with all of the programs.
The best thing about this place is that its a place we can grow in as a family. As my children get older and want to do activities on their own, they have the open gym for basketball and such. A Teen Center. And the free weight gym encourages youth involvement and will help «train» your kids to use specific equipment. This is a place we plan on being a member of for a very long time.

I’m new to Morgan Hill and decided to check out some gyms. I ended up at CRC and was very pleased with the service. The girl who was working was very helpful and Kind (Dianne). I explained my situation to her and how I was new. I sometimes go with my friend who is a bit disabled. He has a speech problem. Fortunately the service here is very professional and kind. Not to many workers with common sense and respect anymore. It’s nice to see some still exist. Thanks Dianne! I’ll be coming back and will recommend this place to others.

Not too expensive for a family of four. They have a full gym, Chinese Kempo, Basketball Courts, High energy workout classes, Teen center, computer center, Kids Club, Swimming pools and lots more to list. We come here often since we live here in the city. Its a great place for kids to hangout. Plenty of activities for kids. I highly recommend this place to any family who lives within the area. Across from this center is a skate park if you like the ramps. Will update another day if we find additional activities within the recreation center.

Weight Room is really small. There doesn’t seem to be any organization of the equipment. The people who work there are really nice. Volleyball is okay but some of the rules are silly and make it less fun than it should be. There should be open basketball more than once per week at night. The locker rooms are clean and tidy. Price is fair if you have a family but otherwise a 24 hour membership from Costco might be your best option. They have some things that could make the experience better but it is an above average gym for the area.

This just in: 2 new rowing machines, so adding in a star. In reality, that deserves only a half star, but I will round up on the theory that the gym is listening and will perhaps one day add more equipment based on Unilocal reviews.
Still no cage or power rack. Plenty of people doing squats and deadlifts creatively. Scariest squat trick seen: doing a «good morning» from the bottom position on the upright pins straddling an incline bench press rack to get the weight up. This with 175 lbs. Why, YMCA, why do you insist on that crazy stretching rack and all those «crunch benches» when you don’t have some place safe to do squats and barbell OHP?
I should also mention that they have yoga classes that range from hard to impossible. At least the two instructors I attended with. Don’t do this after any kind of serious resistance workout the previous day. You will otherwise spend the bulk of the one hour and fifteen minutes in humiliating «down dog» pose waiting for the rest of the class to finish the challenging cycles.

Registered for a membership here once I moved to Morgan Hill.
Pros:
–clean facilities
–free wifi
–friendly staff
–good class selection and mix of sports for east and west gym rooms
–relatively cheap pricing (1 child under 21 free with any membership)
Cons:
–weight room only has 1 flat bench and no squat rack (only 1 smith machine)
–weight room is usually pretty full (maybe 30% capacity), so you have to wait to use some of the equipment
–pool area is dirty, has too many children, and not enough lanes (you have to drive all the way to the aquatic center for a good pool)

A beautiful building with wonderful services. I’ve attended various seminars and gatherings for the Realtor’s Association, SCCAOR, and other businesses that have helpful marketing programs to us realtors.
My Marketing assistant has found their local boards and events boards very informative and will frequent there to stay current on our area’s happenings!
–Not to mention all of the classes and activities available to us here in Morgan Hill and surrounding areas to participate in!

Excellent center for seniors. I always leave happy! Director is great at having lunch activities. Kitchen food the best in Santa Clara County! Fun trips too. I am thankful for this wonderful center. This center not only respects the dignity of seniors, I get the feeling, they actually like seniors!

My daughter (now 26mon. old) and I love the CRC. We spend a lot of time at the indoor (major bonus!) kiddie pool, outside pool area and common area. This place is spotless, fun and had a top-​notch staff. It is expensive to join, but 100% worth it in my book if you have kids. On the grown-​up side: great fitness classes and a pretty exercise facility. I love the Ujam classes. So happy to have this great family spot nearby!

Ok, this is a great place for our family.
What I love:
–So many things for the kids to do, and these are included in my membership.
–The indoor pool and waterslide, a family favorite.
–Kids zumba and fitness classes, included: great instructors.
–The senior center, my folks love it: games, lunch, computer classes, senior advice, etc.
–The fitness center
–The outdoor walking path
–The covered parking
–The child-​care facility and staff
–The outdoor aquatics center is included in my membership!
Areas to improve:
–The showers are starting to leak and need some TLC
–There are times when all the aerobic machines in the fitness center are taken
–Some of the Cool Kids Camp instructors are too immature
–Some of the Kids instructors (swimming, soccer, etc.) are immature and don’t know how to handle children very well… in general, I can’t recommend the sports teachers and take the children elsewhere for sports/​swimming classes.
