It’s terrible. For whatever reason no matter what the traffic is everywhere else, it’s horrible once you get to Morgan Hill. First of all, nobody seems to have mastered the art of merging, and people. you really don’t have to slow down when there is a vehicle on the shoulder, and out of the way. Just drive for Christ sake, and get the hell out of the passing lane if you’re out sightseeing.

This south-of-The-Bay-Area stretch of «The» One-Oh-One actually runs predominately North-South, as expected of an odd-numbered U.S. Highway(& in contrast to the bit between Saints Claire and Matthew). That’s a route that has seen a huge increase in traffic over the past decade, as ridiculous home prices in the Sillycon Valley ‘drive’ more people to settle in Gilroy, Hollister, Los Banos and farther. CalTrans has generally kept up well with this vast traffic increase, with lane expansions in both directions over a bottleneck stretch north of Morgan Hill. The new slab of road — with excellently-deep grooves to channel rainfall — has been wearing unexpectedly fast, though, over the short time since its construction. Farther south, steady truck traffic has done a number on the right lane’s concrete, which is cratered like the moon. The other lanes are in little better shape. And that’s how I see it today, 26 July 2015. Good-day!
