Great authentic Mexican food! Best Pico de Gallo around. Eat here often and never had a bad meal. Even stop by and get pico or guacamole to go :-)

Drove by this place Thursday afternoon and did a quick U-Turn(and landed in the big pothole in their parking lot). Sat in the lot while I read some previous reviews and decided to give it a try. The Run Down: A-Okay street taco style joint. Huge on the inside — very long restaurant. Sit down or to go. Delicious Salsa Verde with a kick at the table, but have to ask for Pico de Gallo if you want it. Tried one Asada Taco and One Al Pastor. Both were good, but the Asada was better. The Al Pastor was cubed pork and a bit tough — you don’t notice it so much on the taco, but only when you eat the morsels trying to escape onto your plate. Very friendly staff. About $ 5.50 for two tacos and a half liter Fresca. Not bad! I’d rather eat here than McDonald’s any day. They also have chicken, tripe and tongue if that’s your bag!

As a big fan of Mexican food, this was one of the best authentic Mexican food experiences. We ordered two burritos, one with beef and the other with chicken, the burritos were delicious, perfect seasoning, good size, and fresh. We asked for something extra spicy and got fried jalapeño with onions — it was really really spicy and hot. The guacamole was freshly made with ripe avocados accompanied with pico de galo. The place is basic and the menu had limited options. Prices are competitive and service was great. Highly recommended! Unique experience.

We stopped here on our way to the mountains for lunch, and are glad we did. Authentic taqueria(we were the only Anglos there at the time), and everything was fresh and delicious. We had five different tacos, guacamole, & a quesadilla. You can get food to eat in(the dining area is actually fairly large) or take out. The owner was nice enough to tell me that the chicken plate we’d ordered would take a little while(we were getting food to go). If you want very good, fresh taqueria food, it’s definitely worth the small detour off of Interstate 40.

Order? Four, spicy tacos al pastor, which turns out to be chorizo. It wasn’t really that spicy, but it was greasy and messy. This time the proprietor asked if I wanted homemade tortillas, and I said, «yes.» Their house made tortillas are noticeably better and fresher than the store bought versions. Even though I hadn’t eaten today, four tacos was a bit much, three would have been plenty. These tacos al pastor were authentic and rustic. I think that I like the grilled steak better. I have to give another shout out to their HORCHATA. OMG, this drink alone is worth the trip to Morganton. All I can say is that this is one of the most delicious beverages that I have ever enjoyed. Think of an iced vanilla milk concoction with cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. If McDonald’s or, better yet, Taco Bell, would add this beverage to their menu, they would have an instant sell out hit, both with the Hispanic community and gringos! Today, there were two other Americanos in the dining room, which filled up rapidly as dinner hours approached. Soccer on the telly. Unsurprisingly, the Hispanic patrons received better service, but I really didn’t care — the Horchata is worth anything — short of a beating. I tried being friendly and even speaking Spanish, but my attempts weren’t reciprocated. The owners strike me as being wary of American diners. I ate without being bothered, aside from having my horchata refilled. I can live with that. This is a family restaurant, which I appreciate, and everyone is well behaved. I have yet to be offered their«free» chips and salsa, but maybe that only comes with a larger meal — I don’t know. My meal was roughly $ 9 and change.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Morganton. The tacos here are maybe the best I’ve had anywhere. The service sometimes lacks and the place can feel dirty. But the food is always tasty. I cannot give them five stars because of the service quality. Always make sure to ask for the homemade tortillas when ordering tacos. My favorite is the steak tacos. I really love the food.

Excellent, friendly place with home made tortillas. Cheap too. We were taking the back roads back from the mountains to Durham and couldn’t have been happier to find this place.

I love this place. The owners are awesome and so is the food. The Huraches are so good as are the gorditas. The guac… is so good you’ll pee on your self. I go here every week. The 1at Wednesday in every month they have Pablanos. Peppers that are stuffed with cheese, egg battered and fried with a hot red sauce. You have to try this place.

First of all, its difficult to find good Mexican food especially in the boondocks of North Carolina. Apparently, everyone thinks Mexican food is monterey jack cheese and free chips and salsa. It sends chills down my spine. Taqueria Jalisco is not that. A small shack located on a side road, this place is where it’s at. I ordered the Gordita(deep fried thick tortilla stuffed with your choice of meat, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream etc.) and a Huarache(tortilla in the shape of a sandal with choice of meat, beans, lettuce and mozzarella). The fact that they have lengua and cabeza(tongue and head)(Quit squirming! Its delicious) and lack of ground beef shows me their authenticity. Both dishes were delicious but what stood out was the torta(mexican sandwich) that my sister let me taste. The bread was still crunchy, a hard feat considering all the meat, salsa, and cream stuffed in it. Prices were reasonable. What kept me from giving this place 5 stars was that the Gordita was not very thick or crunchy. It seems like it wasn’t deep fried either but more like sauteed. This should not deter anyone from eating here. Just my take on what a Gordita should be. Menu suggestion: Chicken Torta with a Pineapple water. Thank me later

THIS is the place for authentic mexican food in the area. First, they make fresh corn tortillas with your order, and I think they make their own bread for the tortas. The tortas are huge and delicious and come with a variety of meats. The tacos remind me of the street tacos in Mexico, with fresh cilantro and onions on top. My friends really liked the asada and chicharrones tacos. The guacamole is fantastic and the green Jalapeño salsa is hot and flavorful. Just wish they fried their own tortilla chips, that would be awesome. My husband likes the Menudo on Sundays, which I hear sells out really fast. I think this is the only place in town to offer this dish. A perfect hangover remedy! The décor is nothing special but that’s probably what keeps the prices low. They also have cold beer to wash it all down with. If you haven’t been here before, give it a go! You’ll be a regular, just like we are.

If the slogan«If you want good XX food, go where the XX’ans eat» holds true, then Jalisco is the place to get Mexican food in Morganton. My parents are regulars, and though we visit often, I’ve never seen any other people who, say, checked the Caucasian box on their census form. The food is delicious and authentic. The service is top-notch. My Dad is vegan and he has managed to get a special vegan burrito developed for him, despite the language barrier(ask for the avocado burrito). And man, is it good. The only real downside is the chips and salsa situation. Maybe this is Muy Autentico, but they just give you generic round yellow corn chips and so/so sauce in a squeeze bottle. Did I mention the unbelievable deals on huge bottles of imported(guess from where) beer?
