These guys have everything you need for high end gardening, indoor and outdoor. They carry all the namebrand nutrients and hardware. Owner knows what’s going on, staff knows a little, but Jason’s always a phone call away.

Almost Heaven Hydroponics is an excellent store. Don’t let the name ‘hydroponics’ scare you into thinking it’s a seedy headshop. The store is clean, well-lit, safe, and there is parking right in front of the store. Staff are not sketchy and are respectful and knowledgeable and not condescending. The term ‘hydroponics’ simply is a term describing a subset of a specific type of horticulture. A lot of basic foods such as lettuce and tomatoes sold at the local grocery stores are grown in this manner. They have an excellent variety of lighting systems, growth substrates, a variety of plant pots, and a small selection of seeds for veggies. If you are an indoor plant aficionado, little details such as the type of lighting system(intensity, lumen, temperature) are things to consider. With my orchids, I have to ensure that they obtain enough light, warmth, and humidity here in WV in the winter, and hopefully I’ll be able to get a good lighting system one day instead of using a bunch of desk lamps. I have a variety of phalaenopsis orchids and I wish I had known about this store sooner when I first moved here. I’m VERY finicky about my orchids(lighting to bark mix type), and have had problems finding plastic mesh pots that provide good aeration and ended up ordering them through Amazon last fall. They also sell growth substrates if you like to mix your own potting mix. For example, they had a wall with samples of single types of growth substrates such as perlite so you can touch and see what you are purchasing. Staff are also knowledgable about hard-to-care for plants such as venus fly traps. I was helping a friend with reviving her venus fly trap, and Almost Heaven was the only shop that knew what they were talking about, particularly about using D-I water, minerals, etc. They had a bag of coconut coir ready for me when I arrived. If you have any tropical plants(orchids, venus fly traps, carnivorous plants, etc.), staff here are knowledgeable and they sell a lot of quality items at a very good cost. I know that I don’t have to worry about my orchid growth substrate being contaminated with mold, and that this is the store you want to come if you have arcane questions about your plants(i.e. How do I sterilize my scissors when I cut off a stem from my orchid?) without getting odd looks. They had a huge hydration tray on display which is really awesome for plants such as orchids and other humidity-loving tropical plants. Again, don’t let the name ‘hydroponics’ scare you. Store like these are seriously awesome, and they are a good place to obtain hard to find gardening items you can’t get at Target, Lowes or Walmart. If you are trying to start an indoor garden to grow tomatoes or lettuce, or need to get quality trays for starter plants in the spring these folks are knowledgable on lighting, aeration, and things you can do to prevent contamination with mold.
