While the food at Little Donkey isn’t spectacular, it’s portion size that ultimately prevents it from being a viable option for Mexican fare in Morgantown. I wasn’t all that hungry when I came to Little Donkey for the first time, so I ordered a side of rice($ 2.00) and an order of chips and queso($ 3.00). The rice came in a very small styrofoam cup of sorts, and the queso came in an even more shockingly undersized container that looked more suited for a serving of ketchup. The portion of chips was unimpressive as well. The rice had a little heat but no real flavor to speak of, and was an unpleasant combination of lukewarm and undercooked(a little crunchy even!). The queso, despite being lukewarm as well, was actually very tasty. The queso came with a green salsa that was very interesting and somewhat unique. It had a very tangy flavor with just a little heat and an applesauce-like consistency. The chips were standard Mexican restaurant fare. All in all, I didn’t get nearly as much food as I expected for the price, and what I did get was below the standard set by local competitors.

Looking for Mexican restaurant staples like tacos? Try somewhere else. I came here for lunch with a hankering for tacos. After finding out they don’t have beef tacos, I opted for a 2 chicken tacos/chips/queso combo that cost about $ 8 with tax. I asked for no lettuce, which the cashier replied didn’t come with the tacos. What come out didn’t resemble any taco, hard or soft, I’d ever seen. The tacos were served open-faced with a little bit of pulled chicken, some green non-lettuce veggies, and a bit of cheese crumbles. The chips and queso were OK but nothing unique. I was still hungry when I was done. Save your $ 8 and walk over to Qdoba or Taco Bell instead.
