I made it a point to visit this establishment driving back to Chester County after a weekend in Central PA as it was an easy stop off the Turnpike. Ribs were on my mind as always but on this Saturday afternoon I was SOL — they were sold out. The gentleman behind the counter sensed my disappointment and suggested calling ahead next time to reserve an order. I instead opted for brisket and a side of baked beans. The brisket was a quality cut with deep smokiness and that tell-tale pink ring that proves it’s legit. The beans may have been the best I’ve ever had. They include pintos and whites and have a nice zing of heat, a welcome departure from the sickeningly-sugary baked beans most places serve. Following the advice given I called on Friday to reserve a rack of ribs for Saturday chuckling to myself that Stampede must be the Tacconelli’s of BBQ. It’s a relaxing drive from Phoenixville taking the country roads of Route 23. To go along with my ribs I got another order of beans along with potato salad. The ribs didn’t let me down. They had a deep maroon color which led me to think they would burst with flavor. They didn’t but that wasn’t a bad thing. These are the kind of ribs that are seasoned simply to allow the meat to speak for itself. They were meaty with minimal fat and a noticeable hickory smoked flavor. I liked the spicy BBQ sauce which complimented the ribs nicely; it was on thin side with an apple butter base, I believe. I also loved the potato salad — eggy, made with mayo, and clearly homemade. Service was friendly and helpful. BBQ is alive and well in the sticks of Berks County thanks to these guys. I’ll be back. FYI — Halloween weekend is your last chance to hit them up before they close for the season.

I stop here every time I take the turnpike. Brisket is FANTASTIC. The beans are a little too spicy for my taste, but I’m not exactly stopping for the sides. Gimme some meat, please. Grab a bottle of sweet tea and eat at a picnic table. They even have a little water dispenser so you can wash up after your sticky, finger-lickin’ good meal.

This Roadside BBQ is just off of RT23 feet past the Windmill, which makes it easy to find. The prices are fair for the amount of food you get. They do have a great size parking lot to park. They have a medium size eating area with shade. They do accept credit cards, and cash. They are seasonal and they are not open everyday. I got a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, which was nice and fresh, which a nice smoke to it. They have some great fresh cut fries. There coleslaw nice and creamy. They do offer to go sauce if you needed some. My friend had a half ranch of short ribs, which were nicely smoked and tasted great! There service was fast and friendly.

Probably the best place to eat in Morgantown. The pulled pork is always delicious! I love fries and their first time I went here they were sold out but the last time I had them they were ok. The potato salad and macaroni salad are both very good. I’m not sure what the sandwich was I had the last time but it had 2 or 3 different meats and it was good too. The pulled pork is the best though. Their sauces are very good and add great flavor to the sandwiches. It’s so nice to support local business and enjoy outdoor seating. I’ll be sad when it closes for the winter.

During a recent visit, my wife and I had brisket sandwiches. The meat was just a shade dry, but had a nice smoke ring and solid smoke flavor. The bun complemented the meat nicely. Often brisket sandwiches consist of chopped brisket, but these were slices. In doing the standard pull test, the slices came apart nicely. We like brisket without sauce, but I sampled the regular and the spicy and both were good(spicy was my preferred). Sweet potato fries were flavorful without being overly salty and had a nice soft interior with a crunchy exterior. Potato salad had good texture and flavor. Two kinds of beans were in the slightly spicy BBQ beans. They were cooked tender but not mushy. All in all, a very good experience. We would definitely stop there again.

The food remains excellent but I no longer can give them 5 stars. My change in rating is due to the high prices for the quantity of food. My last 2 rib racks were much smaller than last season(the end of the racks were cut off). Even though the taste is great I can visit other rib restaurants and get sides with my ribs for less money.

Best pulled pork around and a great place to stop for ribs. Given how good everything else is I’m eager to try the brisket.

I drove by this place numerous times when visiting this part of PA for a weekend excursion. I am glad I finally decided to stop by and check out their BBQ. Its a small roadside trailer that serves top notch, world class BBQ at good prices and quick service. There is NOTHING not to like at this place! Sometimes a line forms but the service is quick and on point from the kids that run it so the wait is minimal. Getting to the food… the brisket is the best I have ever tasted in my life! I have been to famous BBQ places all over the country that pride themselves in brisket and this place beats them all. Its cut up chunky style like a slice of meatloaf and its so tender and juicy it splits with a fork. Nice char on the outside and succulent juicy goodness on the inside. No need for sauce but if you must there is sauce supplied: regular or spicy. I liked the brisket so much I went back the next day and had it for lunch then brought a pound home to share with the wife. She agreed: best brisket ever! The back back ribs were very, very good too. Nice smoke ring and the meat just pulled off the bone with little effort. Yum! I had the BBQ beans which were excellent. Home made and not too sweet or tender. Also tasted the potato salad and cole slaw. Also home made and also very good. Highly recommend this place if you want some excellent world class BBQ. Its worth it to take a detour out of your way to pay a visit. I know I will be a regular in the future and I live 2.5 hrs away!

Top notch BBQ, period. Tim and the boys helped me arrange a soccer team group dinner and the delicious and plentiful smoked meats were a hit. Their hospitality was warm and friendly and the view at sunset was really beautiful. We brought our own beer, the girls ran about, and all was good in the world. We will be back!!! Ok I thought about this long and hard. It has nothing to do with there food. I pre ordered a smoked turkey for thanksgiving pre paid etc. The day I went to pick it up was thanksgiving day when I got there they tried to shake me down for an extra $ 15.00 when I already paid in full of $ 90.00. They said because the birds cost more. They were suppose to be fresh farm birds but it had a pop up timer in it every fresh bird I got from the farm never had that. Beyond that it just makes me mad when they could of called as the order form had my number to call me and ask do you want it or not. Not to shake me down on thanksgiving. I didn’t have the extra they did give me the bird but I will no longer buy food from them as they should of just ate it and not shake me down on turkey day

We have been to Stampede several times and it is wonderful!!! We stop there every time we are in Lancaster! Last week, I got the brisket, it was yummy! The ribs, pulled pork and cole slaw are really good as well but I think the brisket is my new favorite! Love the old work boots with the plants in them! Staff is very nice and friendly as well!

What a great find. One again the Unilocal community comes through. Brisket, pork and ribs were all delicious. The sweet potato fries were amazing! If you like eating outside on wooden picnic tables, then add a star.

We were taking a ride out to get some corn at the farm in Lancaster and went past a BBQ stand near the Windmill Restaurant. We stopped for lunch and were so happy we did. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich platter and it was fantastic. The sandwich was so big and on a real Kaiser roll not some little junk white bread roll. The pork was piled high and was so good. I got the brisket sandwich platter and it was the best I have ever had. We have stopped a few more times and the ribs are made like none I have ever had. They are picture perfect and fall off the bone but not too soft. I have only seen BBQ that looks this good on BBQ competition shows. The crust on the brisket is so pretty and it’s so moist when he cuts it I wish I could learn to cook it myself. I drive from Pa to Va, SC, NC, Ga, FL, KY, and all through TN stopping at every BBQ stand I can find. I have not found any that are as good as this. I have not been to TX but plan to go just to have BBQ there. I expect I would find excellent BBQ in TX as the guys said they learned their BBQ skills there. There are other BBQ stands within 50 miles of this one and I have tried most of them. Some were ok and others I would never go back to. Stampede Smokin BBQ is one I will continue to go frequently to as long as they continue to serve this incredible food. These are very young guys making this BBQ so I can’t wait to see where they go with this, it’s hard to imagine it getting better but I have a feeling their love for what they do may bring more surprises in the future. Thank you for doing BBQ so well!

Came upon this place accidentally from a failed journey to Shady Maple. As a Texan(credibility) this place rivals some of the best BBQ joints in the line star state. My boyfriend and I drove an hour to try it as I’ve been in dire need of BBQ, and it was well worth the trip. Try the brisket and the chicken! The baked beans weren’t my favorite and that’s why they’re only getting 4 stars.

Don’t forget to add pickels, onions for(some nice added taste and texture) and their home made BBQ sauce to with the sandwich. Service was excellent as well. When I’m in town next ill stop by. We went out to Morgantown to buy summer plants and while returning, we stopped on a whim because of the long line at this roadside BBQ place. We are soooo glad we did. Both my wife and I LOVE the BBQ at Virgil’s in NYC, and this rivals it… if not beats it outright. Not too much smoke… wonderful sauce with apple flavors in it… and some great slaw on top. The best… and certainly the best in PA. We live 30 minutes away, but we’ll be back often. Nice job guys!
