I found the cutest pooch on back in May. He was in a foster home under the care of the Michigan Friends Rescue Shelter. You might ask yourself, «Where is Morley, Michigan?» Well, a more accurate description would be middle-of-nowhere, northern Michigan. The shelter was about 2.5 hours north of Grand Rapids and on the drive there I thought I had passed the shelter many times. Turns out the shelter is basically a double-wide trailer. There wasn’t even a sign at the end of the drive. I was in awe, considering they had several pages of animals(both dogs + cats) listed on Petfinder. All I can say is that a lot of these animals must be in temporary foster homes. My boyfriend and I drove up and got out of the car, not knowing what to expect. There was a single employee outside working on what appeared to be dog runs. He instructed us to wait outside while he went in to get the dog I was considering adopting. I thought this was a bit fishy, but when he brought out the dog, I knew he was the pup for me. The adoption fee was pretty reasonable($ 125), but they didn’t have any change so I had to drive to a gas station to break one of my twenties. They accept cash or money orders. Another thing that was a little strange was that they didn’t provide me with a proof of rabies vaccination for my dog, so I had to take him to the vet and get a shot even though I’m sure he was probably already up to date. Lesson learned: be sure to check your paperwork before you leave! I can’t help but support the mission of animal rescues, but I have to minus two stars for the current facility. I plan to donate some money when I have some extra funds because my dog is really great and I want to support where he came from!
