Great hamachi jalapeño and phat boy roll was enormous. Sat at the sushi bar, which is small and welcoming. If you want something that’s not one the menu let them know and they will make it happen. Great prices and BYOB makes this an affordable sushi option

Yum! Service leaves a lot to be desired, but the sushi is fresh so it’s worth putting up with. The portion sizes are pretty generous and prices are reasonable. The space is quite tiny and the parking lot is small so be warned; weekends are crazy busy.

I go to a lot of sushi places in north jersey from montclair to ridgewood to rutherford to little ferry, this is my absolute favorite spot but its about an hour drive so we only go on special occasions. from one sushi lover to another, trust me when i say this place is worth every penny!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. I have never been disappointed here. As a regular, the staff recognizes me and is very friendly. All the rolls are very fresh and creative, and overall extremely tasty. I have never had a bad experience with anything here and would highly recommend it. My favorite rolls are the Pokemon roll, volcano roll, and Morris plains roll. Reasonable pricing, much cheaper than anything else in the area. Bang for your buck!

I’ve consistently had good-great meals at Aji. Service can be spotty ;) but overall a Four Star experience for sushi! Morris Plains roll!

Met a friend for lunch on a Thursday. Not overly busy, but decent enough lunch crowd. My friend had the sushi lunch and he said it was good. I had the yaki-soba which wasn’t very soba-ish(I’m expecting buckwheat noodles) but more Chinese noodle-ish. But then, the place is run by Chinese people. The service was attentive and quick, but since there weren’t that many people, anything less would have been disappointing. Would go back for the sushi.

I ate tuna from here and within 15 minutes of eating my meal I had to use the bathroom several times …

Went here for lunch with family on a long drive. After skimming reviews before going in we were uncertain if it would be any good. After walking in(the phrase«don’t judge a book by its cover» suits Aji Sushi perfectly) we were pleased with the atmosphere, so we decided to stay and give it a try. Boy were we happy we did! The rolls were delicious and filled us up. The Batman roll was HUGE, we were faced with 3 choices, unhinge our jaws, split each piece in half, or shove it all in at once, no matter what we chose, all ended with the same result. Delicious Delicious sushi(with a side of spicy mayo). The service was good and everyone was friendly. If this was not so out of the way for us, we would be going back regularly!

We stopped in on a December Monday around 1pm. The place was about half full. Waitress was friendly and prompt. Miso soup was average or slightly better. The eel cucumber roll was delicious. I had good yakisoba, with fresh vegetables(lots of mild onion) and plenty of white-meat chicken. Husband loved his Tonkatsu(breaded pork loin with special sauce) a difficult dish to find. All food plus our green tea was served fresh and piping hot. The restroom was very clean, but isn’t handicapped accessible. Overall atmosphere is typical small Japanese restaurant.

This place is small, so I wouldn’t go on a weekend night. The staff is friendly & the food is delicious. I highly recommend the Angel Roll.

I have lived in town for 3 years and had my first experience recently. The sushi was possibly the freshest I have ever had! The prices are comparable if not less expensive than other local sushi restaurants. The waiters were very friendly as well. I will definitely be coming back!

The best! Sushi is always consistently good. I’m here at least once a week. Plus it’s a BYOB, what’s not to love. Great little hidden gem in MoPlains.

Used to come here like it was my job. Sushi was always really, really good. Price was reasonable. Service was usually pretty good. But then had a really awful experience with service and have since sworn the place off. Also, the older man who works there, who I’m presuming is the owner/manager, is about as unfriendly as it gets. Have been at this restaurant maybe 20+ times and don’t think I’ve ever seen him even crack a smile(or if he did it was an accident). I have been there when the waiters/waitresses are absolutely overwhelmed and he has literally done nothing except stand at the front and glare. Food is important, but service and friendliness also matters. Food is 3.5-stars, for what it’s worth but I’m reviewing the entire experience.

Stopped in for take-out one day. The host was very friendly and helpful, offering a few suggestions since I was rather indecisive. Wound up with the lunch special — miso soup, salad, and 2 rolls for $ 10. Miso was good(plentiful amount of seaweed and tofu) Salad was your typical for that of a sushi joint(iceberg lettuce, shredded carrot, a slice of tomato & cucumber) Rolls were good — fish was fresh

Wanted to try someplace new for lunch on a recent day off and after seeing so many local Unilocalers leaving tips and reviews Aji Sushi was the pick… besides, I’ve wanted to give it shot for years. First off, the guy at the register was great-very friendly and greeted a couple of regulars warmly. Since I was starving, ok maybe just really hungry, I ended up ordering too much, but like any self respecting guy I figured out a way to enjoy every last bite. I ordered one of the special rolls-the Morris Plains roll(shrimp tempura on the inside and topped with spicy crab), I ordered an eel cucumber hand roll, and the lunch sushi(six pieces and a Cali roll-came with 2 salmon, I tuna, I shrimp, and 2 of something else that I don’t remember… sorry). Since I ordered the lunch sushi it came with miso soup and a salad. Salad was a normal sushi joint salad… no biggie. Miso was delicious and they give you a pretty large serving. Now for the sushi… it was fresh tasting and it was plentiful. The regular sushi pieces were very generous slices, much larger than the places I usually frequent. The California roll was fine, I mean, they’re all basically the same wherever you go-it’s such a standard you have of make it right and they did a good job with this one. The Morris Plains roll was huge and really, really good. I don’t know what they did with the spiced crab at topped the roll, but it was delicious. The place was a bit pricey, and not because I ordered a lot of food-c’mon people give me some credit-but because it was really just a little pricey. I’m not saying it wasn’t a good value for your dollar… in fact it was worth what I paid for it. I’m pretty sure I found a place that will at least share top billing when I’m deciding where to go next time the wife wants sushi!
