Totally delicious! While traveling from Michigan to Colorado we happened to get off the interstate and stumbled across this gem. The owner Ron was working the counter and steered us to his hand made favorites. The food was amazing, portions were big, price was right. I highly recommend the Sloppy Ron sandwich and the brisket. The broccoli salad was the best side item but the coleslaw, and potato salad were close seconds. They have a picnic tables outside which was great to sit out there with our dog. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely visit again. Ron knows his BBQ!

We stopped in for lunch on the way to Matthiessen State Park, after reading the great reviews from other Unilocalers. Long story short: amazing BBQ, huge portions and very friendly people. What more could you ask for? We ended up with ribs, a cowboy burger and a sloppy Ron’s(pork, slaw and bbq sauce). The pork and ribs were smoked to perfection, and the burger was juicy and huge. We all had mild bbq sauce which was so good we bought a jar of it to take home. We will be back, even though we live about 30ins away.

Delicious! Great little place. Welcomes you with smile and makes sure you are satisfied. Ordered pulled pork and my brother had beef brisket. Portions were just right, although expected a bigger sandwich but it was enough. So, if you are out of town and kayaking in Morris, IL make sure to swing by after.

This place has great BBQ and the portions are huge for a good price. I order the pulled pork sandwich and it was amazing. Also the mac n cheese was my favorite side. The staff was very friendly and starting conversations with everyone at the restaurant. I would go back for the Ribs which i heard were really good. The sauce was my favorite part and i even asked for extra since it was that good. I was very surprised with this restaurant on the quality of the BBQ they had. Everything was great and the smells were amazing.

This is how barbecue pork is meant to be. Don’t be afraid of the spicy sauce, it’s the way to go, barely kicks it up from mild. The beans with giant hunks of pork!!! My husband loved the generous serving of sweet potato fries. Don’t get excited and order too much — we couldn’t finish his fries. Atmosphere is wonderful — the staff is professional. Been here in Morris a week, this food was the best.

Yes! OMG, I am so full! Been on the road for 28 days and 13,000 miles, finally got a day off and Ron himself delivered my order to the truck stop, thanks Ron! I drive all over the country and I have to say, this is some of the best BBQ around! I had the Sloppy Ron, corn, fritters, onion rings and slaw… It’s hard to find a restaurant that does everything good, but this one does! The onion rings were superb, pork was wonderful… What van I say… Check this place out if you get the chance! Tell Ron the truck driver sent you! :-)

Great food and very courteous staff. The pulled pork was excellent. My only suggestion would be to maybe source higher quality buns.

Having lived a stone’s throw away from Ron’s since he first opened I have frequented it many times. In the beginning, it was hit or miss, as it is for a lot of new restaurants. These days, I don’t hesitate to get food from here. It has improved steadily over the years. I recommend the pulled pork, but the chicken is also good & my wife likes the brisket. His mild sauce rivals some of my favorite homemade sauces, as well. Ron’s usually around & will take the time to chat. His staff is friendly & efficient. Good stuff.

We had lunch Sat April 4th for the first time here & let me tell you we will be back. Our Family loves a good BBQ& are very picky. My Husband had the Pork Nachos I at first thought he was crazy but they were crazy good. Myself & my Son had the beef Brisket again very good. My daughter now is the picky one went with the cheeseburger & let me tell you it was AWESOME!!’ So as you can see Ron’s was a big hit with our Family ’ we will be back brining others with to try.

I so rarely give out five stars but I think I have to do it. This is never based just upon quality of food but also value, presentation and context. …Go to . …look up BBQ in websters .ask famous dave where he eats out. It should be at Ron’s. I have eaten BBQ all over this great country from chains like Famous Daves to famous joints like Neelys and Bryants… to local Chicago haunts that only the locals know… like Heckys in Evanston and modern anthropologist bbq like Smoque in Chicago that pays homage to the regional influences. Ron deserves his place in this genre. Ron’s BBQ is a classic naked Q that derives its flavor from three sources: 1. The high quality of the meat 2. The real hardwood smoke that it soaks in I am guessing for the better part of a day 3. The lack of a cloying spice allowing the natural juices and sugars in the meat to concentrate and roast giving the surface a honey chestnut hued bark making a nice texture contrast with the juicy meat underneath. This is a pork lovers bbq. The presentation is NOT marred by dipping the meat in sauce and carmelizing before serving. Ron cooks the pork so skillfully that it carmelizes the surface with own juices. (pro tip: this is not the over powering smoke so common to Mesquite bbq in Texas… more like subtle hardwoods at Ron’s…I am guessing oak and pecan) So milder smoke flavors here compliment the concentration of pork flavor. Also deep pink smoke rings mean flavor on the surface is different from half inch deep and different toward the deeper strata. That is three layers of different flavors within the same hunk of meat. Sides were homemade slaw fresh, crunchy and a nice balance between sweet and tang. Sweet potato fries with crystalized sugar were savory and sweet. MacnCheese had a subtle flavor of buttermilk mmmm. Ok my grand kid had the fried chicken strips. Usually just an afterthought to feed the little rug rat one of the two things she will actually swallow of her own free will. She of course ate all the fries and left most of her chicken. I of course had to try one and my goodness. I am normally not a fried chicken eater but Ron… buddy…this beats the hell out of KFC. Serve these little fingers with a couple dipping sauces or something like Buffalo Wild Wings… like a spicy thai peanut sauce and/or a hot buffalo sauce and you will dominate. Whatever crunchy savory stuff you dunked those all white strips into was divine. It was like crunch and taste without the grease that usually puts me off fried chicken. The sauce served on the side was a good balance between a subtle heat and a deeper elusive flavor… was that a little beer flavor in there? A slight pleasant bite from coffee? …a slight tang of salted tomato in there? I love that the sauce is a departure from the single note so common to BBQ in Chicago: Sweet. This sauce is an extention of the meat and was middling between Midwest thick and Georgia thin. It also had a good mouthfeel and didnt wash out the flavor of the pork. Damn I hate giving any place five stars but when you gotta, you gotta. BTW this place is only a shack in spirit. It was absolutely spic and span and we were there towards the end of a nine hour shift. Cool mantiques with back stories adorn the walls. My only suggestions would be to add to the sauce roster for the chicken strips and brew your own tea and sweet tea. Easy to do yourself and profitable. I love it that most dishes come with a drink. Ron is not trying to rip people off with an expensive fountain drink. This is decent value. We got two pounds of tips, three sides and drinks for about 25 bucks and left there stuffed. Ok one last thing… the staff were having fun. Talking, chatting with my family, experimtasting different foods like hot dogs and things. Checking on if we liked this or that. asking where we were from. They were fun. It was a fun place. Felt like hanging out with friends.

Wow. I went there a month ago. Now My mouth waters every time I think about this place. I got a full slab of ribs to share with a friend, and it was so juicy and tender. Ron was so nice; he gave us a free desert after he heard we were just passing through the town.

Ron’s Pork Shack was spot on. Awesome food, polite and courteous service, all around a great experience. I had the brisket platter with mild BBQ sauce, fresh made, with sides of cole slaw and Mac&cheese. The brisket was tender and juicy and had a perfect smokey flavor(not too heavy, just right) The Mac&cheese was exceptional, just what I had hoped for and better. Cheesy, creamy, delicious all around. Cole slaw is hit or miss, the cole slaw at Ron’s was like the rest of the food: Spot On. The bathroom was spotless clean, waste basket empty, all the lights were working, and just a mild bit of smoke hung in the air in the dining room which made it so much more enjoyable. The attractive lady who worked behind the counter was very kind, served us(3) quickly with the support of the gentleman working in the kitchen. My other 2 guests got the chicken sandwich which was tender and juicy, and the full slab of Ron’s BBQ ribs which were out of this world good. I can’t say enough good things about Ron’s Pork Shack. If you live within 50 miles of the place, you need to go.

It’s our first visit to this place. She ordered the Sloppy Ron with sides of cole slaw and mac & cheese. The guy behind the counter suggested I get the Brisket Sandwich with hot sauce. I had that, with cole slaw and sweet potato tots. We also got an order of fried pickles. With sauce dripping onto my chin and covering my fingers, I look at her and say«mmmph woummph wormph the drmphh frmphh Brookmfld.» She is a LOT more couth than me, so she swallows her food before saying«I was thinking the exact same thing!» Google maps says it is 50.5 miles from Brookfield to Ron’s Pork Shack — a 65 minute drive. What I said to her, which you couldn’t understand because my mouth was filled with mouth-watering food, was«this would be worth the drive from Brookfield.»

Best BBQ you will find in the Morris area. The owners are super friendly and will give you recommendations on what to try if it’s your first visit. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. We tried the baby back ribs which were delicious. The full rack of ribs is large enough to definitely split with another person. If you are in the area, it’s worth a try.

Solid BBQ joint just outside Morris located in a strip mall. Everything is cooked to order and both the husband and wife who run this place are as nice as they come. Ask for suggestions and they’ll give you some. I’ve had the Sloppy Ron a few times now and each is as good as the time before.
