We found ourselves here mostly out of convenience but also hoping to find some version of Tex-Mex with a hint of authenticity. I’ll be the first to admit it looked the part even though it’s located a little over 1,207 miles from the border of Mexico, but in my opinion the name and décor is where the similarities end. Visiting this restaurant on a weekday during lunch hour, it wasn’t surprising to find this place about half filled, it appears its proximity to a number of factories and service oriented businesses makes it a good choice for the local labor force. The prices seemed reasonable and the service was okay at best. I wasn’t expecting to hear a strolling Mariachi Band or find an amazing selection of reposado tequilas but I did expect to experience dishes that remotely resembled good Mexican style cuisine with possibly a touch of Tennessee culture blended in. Tortilla Chips and Salsa — this was some of the best salsa I’ve had in quite awhile it had the perfect texture and was full of flavor I kicked it up with a few dashes of habanero sauce, I’d put this salsa up against most salsas I eaten in the last few years. Tamale — thick masa and bland pork sitting in the water from the undercooked beans that were spooned on top making this a horrible choice, I’ve never eaten a tamale out of a can before but this is what I’d expect them to taste like. If it’s not rolled in corn husk and it has to be covered in a mess of bean and melted cheese I want no part of it. Chicken Taco — wet boiled chicken spooned in a stale corn tortilla, total absence of any flavor, nothing I hate more than a bland soggy taco — please buy a slotted spoon. Ground Beef Taco — see description of chicken taco but swap out the chicken with boiled gray ground beef. I’m sorry for the poor review but I paid the bill for seven and it was a very disappointing experience.

It’s a decent Mexican restaurant. Although it’s nothing extraordinary they are consistently good. The owner and his wife run the place so they try to ensure everything is done right. Whoever designed the parking lot didn’t do very well. The spaces are too narrow so it is wise to park away from the building lest you get a door ding or two. The restaurant itself is located in the west end of the shopping center and is divided into two sections. The décor isn’t very inspiring but it isn’t hideous either. The menu includes the standard Mexican restaurant fare usually found in Tennessee restaurants. Most things I’ve tried have been good except for their chicken enchiladas. I’ve had two different kinds, and in both the chicken was cold. They must precook the chicken and heat it up before serving, but for some reason they don’t get it all warm. I’ve never had this problem with beef or pork dishes for some reason. The prices are reasonable. Overall it’s a good value.
