When it comes to auto repair it’s good to find a family-owned and operated business. When my windshield got a nice big crack(thank you, dump trucks on the highway) I asked the Toyota dealer who they use and he told me «Rick, at Astro Auto Glass» — so I called him. He and his father are incredible. Rick has been doing car windshields for over 20 years and he obviously loves his work — plus he excels at it. When they arrived at my home to replace the windshield on my car, I watched them work and asked a lot of questions(and they didn’t charge me for slowing them down, LOL). Rick said he understood that a lot of people want a 2-hour response, but he focuses more on those who appreciate a good job, done right, by a guy who knows what he’s doing and loves it. I was able to wait 2 days for him to order an OEM windshield for my 2014 Toyota, and Ioved his approach to doing the job. For example, the chains and franchises use a very quick-drying adhesive, but it doesn’t perform well after a couple of years. So Rick uses an adhesive that requires(gasp!) two and a half hours before you can drive your car. Apparently some people find this unacceptable, so Rich politely advises them to use one of the big franchises. Me, I prefer that my repair person use the right materials and that the repair job lasts years longer… and I’ll wait an extra 90 minutes before driving my car. All in all, it was a great experience and a joy to find a skilled and honest glass repair person.
