My wife found Hibiscus via a search — the food was delicious and all the employees were warm and inviting. The pricing is very reasonable and the portion size is a healthy size and didn’t leave me starving nor walking out with a distended stomach. A lot of their business is word-of-mouth(not the optimal location for a restaurant), but the fact they’ve been able to stay afloat in such an obscure location is a testament to the quality of their food and warmth of service. The food tasted fresh and obviously wasn’t frozen. I had the oxtail and my wife had the Jamaican Seafood Run Down… delicious. Oh… and you must order the Jamaican rum flavored bread pudding for dessert. I don’t eat bread pudding, but this was delicious.

Pros: –decent ambiance(live music!) –tasty food, though slightly too salty for me Cons: –I wouldn’t recommend coming hungry, because the service was slow. It took over 60 minutes for our food to arrive. –I ordered Ackee, which I didn’t realize had fish in it(it was listed under the Vegetarian section) until after I pulled a bone out of my mouth. I thought maybe I just neglected to read the description too closely. When I got home, though, I looked up the menu online and saw that they had not given me what I ordered. They had served me, and charged me for, the Ackee with Cod.

I know it suck when ppl only review after a bad experience BUT I ordered out here last night. I’m not sure if they switched cooks forgot to add a seasoning or what but my jerk chicken was bland and far from jerk the taste pasta with chicken was terrible I never had this dish with such wet sauce before(basically grease water) the rice bean tasted like someone added pork to it. I would have recommended this to anyone in hr Morristown area but now I’ll just tell hem if they want authentic Caribbean food they need to go to Essex county. I’m beyond disgusted the he quality of the food last night and as a cook I would NEVER serve sub par food to a customer. Maganment please sit down with your chef and have a discussion about quality of food. I’ll still give 3 stars from previous dining experiences her which was a 4.5 until about 9 o’clock last night.

A small, quaint place to have dinner tucked away in the Best Western Hotel in Morristown, NJ. It is caribbean style food menu with music. Prices are very good and the food is outstanding. I had the red snapper and my husband had, for the first time, goat. The staff is very warm and friendly and explained the meals with detail. Is it BYOB. A great find!

Amazing food. Jerk chicken is flavorful and good amount of spice. Sea bass special is out of this world. Curry is tasty. Staff is super friendly and just a really nice meal.

We went to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday evening. We had a 4:30 reservation so the place was empty when we arrived. So we were the only diners. Which is why I don’t understand why the service was on the slow side. All of the servers were friendly but unfortunately it often took 2 or 3 requests for simple things. Like water or an ice bucket. However, that’s really the only negative. Well besides the dated décor of the restaurant. I was surprised that the restaurant was in the basement of the Best Western. But that’s way less important to me than the taste and quality of my food at a restaurant. And Hibiscus did not disappoint there. Our food was delicious. I had the Ackee and Codfish and it was excellent! Several in my party got the oxtails and the curry goat and everything was delicious! We did feel that the portions were a bit on the small side for the price paid, however. Also we really enjoyed the live music. There was a pianist/singer there singing some smooth jazz/R&B/Caribbean songs and he was wonderful. Another plus is that the restaurant is BYOB, and they don’t appear to limit to just beer or wine. This place really has the potential to earn that 5th star, with a little attention to the things that their reviewers mention. I will definitely be back.

My friends and I are locals and had never been here before last night. You don’t expect a place in the basement of a Best Western to be this good, but it was a lovely surprise. The food was delicious, the service attentive and friendly, and the steel drum music made us feel like we were vacationing in the Caribbean. As others have said, the ambiance is not ideal as it’s tucked downstairs, but that’s a minor disadvantage compared to the great food and service. We will be back!

3.5 stars. Food — delicious. Jerk chicken and oxtail were soo good. Ambience and setting leaves something to be desired. Being in a sketchy basement of a Best Western. Friendly servers and staff.

I’m staying in the best western for a work trip and didn’t want to venture out just yet. I ordered pick up via the Unilocal /eat24 app. It was very easy to order, and once the kitchen has your order they update the tracking status with your estimated wait time. I got the curried shrimp and the Jamaican festival hush puppies. Everything is out of this world delicious! I’m very happy with my meal. I’m giving a four because the wait time was a bit longer than anticipated, and because I like to have a glass of wine or beer with dinner but this restaurant is alcohol free. Don’t let the run down atmosphere fool you. This is worth stopping in for!

Just finished Saturday night dinner here. We were the first diners of the evening at 6p. The live music starts at 6:30 and other diners began arriving at this time. The location is a challenge as its in the basement of a hotel and the restaurant feels dated. But the waiters are supper friendly and the music brought good energy into the space. Now the food: Festival– excellent! Codfish fritters — good but a little salty Curry goat roti– good Oxtails — ok — they were a little dry

Had a great birthday celebration, party of ten, at the Wednesday brunch. My guests were first time visitors and were extraordinarily pleased and satisfied with the menu, the flavorful food varieties, the personalized service of staff and the overall experience. The food is outstanding and priced reasonably. Hibiscus is truly a hidden gem. D. Moody

This is a gem of a place located in the basement of a hotel. The reggae music set the environment right, and the food was terrific. If I lived in Morristown, I’d go back all the time.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Best Western for our anniversary. We ate dinner elsewhere in Morristown and decided to call it an early night. We came here for dessert at 8:45 on a Saturday night. After we were seated and gave our order, one of the waitresses approached us and told us that it is dine in only because there was«live entertainment»(we had already ordered dessert. and the windowless, basement restaurant was empty) and asked us if we were from out of town. I informed her that we were guests of the hotel and she said well even better that I can accommodate you. The bread pudding was good, but the crème brûlée was run of the mill. Morristown has a plethora of restaurants; Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Also it looks like it’s from the 80s and smells musty.

The food here is incredible. However, I am not giving this place a 5 because there is A LOT of room(and need) for improvement. I realize, this is a small restaurant with a small kitchen, so the wait time is expected to be long, but to wait almost 2 hours for a meal is really unacceptable. The servers are all very polite and friendly. Reservations are highly recommended. The music? — depends on who is playing… and your mood. Be careful ordering takeout from this place: I ordered and specifically asked to have 2 dishes(TWO !!! not five !) ready for 8pm — ended up waiting additional 40 minutes because«kitchen messed it up» and, when i got home, things that were ordered(and paid for) were not there. Having said all that, I am going back there tonight with some friends and a bottle :-). It’s BYOB. I am not going to be ordering take out from Hibiscus.

My family and I came here for dinner for my aunt’s birthday and everything was great! Everything was delish! I did not partake in any of the appetizers, but the ohhs and ahhs from my family members were enough to let me know how much they were enjoying them. We also had what they call festival(their version of bread) that was indeed a festival in my mouth. For dinner I had the Hibiscus oxtail and it was to die for! I was served a nice size portion of fall of the bone oxtail that melted in my mouth! I am of Caribbean decent and I am usually a bit leery of ordering rice from restaurants because it always seems too«mushy» or not cooked long enough and bland. The beans and rice that I had was WONDERFUL. It was cooked to perfection and flavorful. Dinner was followed by chocolate cake and I believe it was a raspberry bread pudding; you guessed it, DELICIOUS! We had the pleasure of being entertained by a live jazz singer while we dinned. The staff was friendly and attentive. Hibiscus is perfect for a romantic dinner, a girls night out, or a family dinner(as long as your family members are 21+) It was my first time dinning here but it most certainly will not be my last!

This review is based on lunch time pick up service only. The food is always delish! The staff is always friendly. The 3 stars are based soley on the quality of the food. Less 2 stars because of unreliability. They do not adhere to the advertised hours of operation and seldom answer the phone. It is frankly just lazy of the manager/owner. I would like to give this place 5 stars because of the sweet older chef and waiter working there, and though I’ve never dined in it does seem to have a good ambiance what with the grand piano in the dining room and the jazz feel, but most of all because I truly like the food; alas, I have been frustrated too many a time by them being unexpectedly closed when they should be open and them failing to answer the phone. Also, they advertise a delivery service that is almost never functional. Perhaps they need more help.

The best Jamaican food I have ever had. I strongly recommend their rasta pasta for dinner and bread pudding for dessert. The owner is super sweet and is amazing. We have been going to this place 5 years never disappointed. Keep up the great work. P. s. Sunday’s are jazz and buffet brunch. great way to sample almost everything on the menu.

I was skeptical at first to try this place but it exceeded all my expectations. We tried the the oxtail and the jerk chicken. The flavors where great. They brought out a sweet bread like appetizer and we all loved it. It was a nice complement to out dishes. Service was great and everyone was so helpful. The music added a nice atmosphere and makes you think you’re no longer in Morristown. In addition it’s BYOB!
