Very unreliable and unprofessional. Never completed the Refinishing of our antique table. Originally told it would take 3 months to complete so the job was scheduled to be done while we were away. Called one week after pickup and within hours of our departing flight demanding payment and that we delay departure so they could return incomplete project. When I went to shop to see the job they were still spraying finish. That was in June and the job is still not done.

Peter Schichtel’s shop builds, repairs and refinishes fine furniture. The Unilocal category is misleading; they do not do any upholstery nor is it a store selling antiques. This is an old-school workshop that focuses on craftsmanship. Schichtel’s shop was happy to take on a tiny job for me. I brought several loose & wobbly wood chairs in for repair, some were missing rungs and all creaked back and forth. The crew fabricated new pieces that matched perfectly, fastened the chairs together with magic epoxy glue that will outlast me, stained & finished the new pieces, and made my old chairs totally solid, felt like new. It took a while of course but the price was reasonable. They were once located on Speedwell Ave behind one of the bodegas, but now are tucked away on a goofy one-way that dead-ends onto Abbett Ave. From MLK Ave, turn onto Garden St then make another right on New St. The fumes in the shop are stunning, I don’t know how those guys survive, not kidding.
