Very nice facilities and I really liked the doctor I saw(Chen) he was very through however the wait at the eye center is absolutely ridiculous. I was there 2+ hours for my first appointment and then when I returned for my contact follow up is was another hour +. That’s is ridiculous. I’d probably still be there now if I hadn’t complained. My time is just as valuable as their and most importantly there are tons of Eye centers in the Atlanta area who don’t have 2 hour waiting times or 1 hour waiting for a 5 minute follow-up appointment. Very disappointed and annoyed and I will not return. I almost laughed out loud when the scheduler asked if I wanted to schedule my 12 month appointment.

I have gone to Clayton Eye Center for almost 10 years. I wear contacts and glasses as do both my husband and children. The doctors have always been efficient, friendly and highly competent. I have seen Dr. Chin and Dr. Weiker. They are both great and it is usually no problem to get an appointment to see the doctor of my choosing. The reason for the 3 star review is two fold. First, the wait is ALWAYS too long. I have scheduled 8:00 am appts. and still had to wait 20 – 30 minutes and often much longer before actually seeing the doctor. How are you already backed up first thing in the morning? Although, this wait is nothing compared to the glasses ordering and fitting area. That is usually double the wait time. Second, the glasses area doesn’t EVER have enough people working /seeing patients. There is nothing worse than standing there while 1 person is assisting a patient and 2 other people are working on their computer. I don’t really care what you are doing on the computer but it would at least be nice to be acknowledged and told what the expected wait time might be or even that someone will be helping me momentarily. I just feel that the customer service is really lacking in this area. Once, I brought in my glasses to be adjusted and the man cleaned them after adjusting them. When I put them on, there were fine scratches all across both sides of the lenses. It was so blurry that i could barely see out of the lenses. I brought this to his attention and he said, «Well that isn’t possible that I did that. They were already there.» What? I asked to speak with a manager and he disappeared, came back with her business card and told me that she was going to lunch but I could call her later. However he stated, «She agrees with me, there is nothing that I could have done to cause this». Again, what? What kind of customer service is that? I stopped going here. There are too many optometrists around to waste my time like this.

First time visit for a regular exam. I signed in and waited in the packed waiting room. 20 whole minutes later, they called me up to take my insurance card and give me the new patient papers to fill out. Good grief. After I turned the papers in, I waited another 10 minutes before the nurse called me back. She was pretty nice and explained each procedure prior to performing them. The eye puff for glaucoma test was quick & painless. Reading reviews on it had me really apprehensive. She gave me 2 eye drops, one for numbing and one for dilation. She escorted me to the next waiting area to see the doctor. Waited about 10 min. Dr. Smick came in and looked at my retina and answered my concerns. He was a lot nicer and attentive than I expected. Being the chief of optometry, I expected a pompous & rushed doctor. I felt like he genuinely cared. Whether he did or not doesn’t matter; he’s got great bedside manner for a doctor. The checkout took another 10 minute wait. The check-in & check-out staff weren’t as personable as the medical staff. I was soooo ready to leave their presence. All in all, the actual service was great. The wait kills. If I ever have to go back, I’d try to be the first appt of the day. 10:30 seems to be a busy time. They didn’t try to sell me something I didn’t need. Perfect eye sight at almost 40yrs.

I’ve been coming here for years to have my eyes checked and even though I’ve moved far away, I keep coming back. The staff is always friendly and has real discussions with you about your habits and needs. All of the doctors are very good, and generally the same doctor will try to see you at every visit if possible. They’re honest and blunt, yet never rude or condescending. They also listen and can do a variety of different tests depending on what you’d prefer. For me, the eye puff of doom is one of the seven deadly sins — I HATE it. Thankfully, Clayton Eye Center offers the alternative of a yellow dye that performs the same test only without the hurricane force winds being shot into your eye. Though I always remind the doctors, it’s written on my chart to never do the eye puff if they want to keep all their limbs. That simple, and they respect that. My only problem is with the contacts department. This is probably required, but every time I go I have to do a «contact consultation.» If you’re new to contacts, they teach you how to wear them, find which ones are best for you, which solutions are good for you, etc. If you’ve been wearing them for 12 years like I have, you sit in the chair, sign a form saying you know how contacts work, then pay $ 60 for the consultation. I’ve read that all eye doctors have to do this consultation(though the fees vary), and the annoying part is that insurance often won’t cover it. I suppose I can’t fully fault the doctors, but it’s a little annoying to pay $ 60 to sign off on a sheet saying I know what I’m doing. Ah well. I’ve purchased glasses here as well and they offer affordable to designer and everything in-between. Plenty of great options on lenses too, from sunglasses to coatings to bi-focals. Every ships back to the doctor or to your home at your request(including contacts) but you’ll probably want to come in for a fitting if you’re getting new glasses — a frequent wearer can easily tell you that the pros make them actually fit your face correctly.
