I hate false advertising! The sign says Hot Pan de Sal from 2 to 5 I get here at 245 and they have some but would not sell it to me because someone else called and reserved it… Then do not put up a sign with information that misled me to believe I can buy it. …You guys lost my business. Not coming back !!!

This place saved my baby boys first birthday! I had a particular design in mind for his first birthday with the mini banner and a one and some animals on the side. Went to other four bakeries and was told it’s not possible it really difficult or super expensive. Jung made it all possible at a very reasonable price! I loved how it turned out. I’d recommend this to anyone !

I grew up eating this wonderful cake that my mom use to make called Sans Rival(which means without rival). The sheets are made out of egg whites and the frosting is made with butter and that should give you an idea of how fattening this cake is but it’s oh so light and good. To make a long story short, it’s hard to find a place that makes this cake very well and we’ve either had to drive an hour away to get this cake or wait for a birthday party and hope that someone’s mom would make it and of course, have it taste just right. So getting this cake was a rare occasion until we discovered Cakes n Crumbs! And we’ve been coming back ever since for Sans Rival and we’ve even tried their other cakes like Ube, mango, brazo de Mercedes, ensaymadas, etc. The owner Jing also teaches pastry making at Cordon Bleu so he has some legitimate street credibility. We’ve enjoyed all of the cakes and with each bite of Sans Rival, I’m taken back to a distant time and place when I use to wait patiently for my mom to bake another cake, a cake without rival.

Ube cake! The staff is friendly but the 3 stars for the selection. I expected a lot more variety from the reviews and was very disappointed. Maybe I went in at an off-hour but I only pretty much saw ube, mango roll cakes, some bread, and a bunch of bday cakes. Definitely recommend their ube roll cake and will be back when craving it: D

Easily one of the best places to get your ensaymada fix. It’s nice because they wrap each one individually compared to what other filipino bakeries do(package in 4). So it makes a nice presentation if you have to bring it into work or something. My dad also really likes the pandesal(bread roll) from here. He said it’s really like what he used to eat back in the Philippines. Location is a bit far, parking in sparse, but if you want quality ensaymada, then it’s worth it.

A favorite place to stop. Love the ube or purple cake. The pound cake is also very good — moist and rich. You can buy an individual slice of cake. The cakes slices are light and fluffy. Reasonably priced.

Oh my gulay! Nanay and tatay! We just discovered a Filipino bakery where baked goods are made on site(FRESH!!!) and are delicious! TONON-FILIPINOS: DONOTFEAR! This may be a Filipino bake shop but the baked goods here will surely please your American stomachs. This place has both American and Filipino baked goods: cookies, muffins, chocolate cake, mango cake, mocha cake, ube cake(purple yam), pan de sal, putok, etc. Driving down Dempster, my husband(he’s Caucasian) saw the word«UBEROLL» on the store window. Both of us being obsessed with Filipino sweets, he immediately parked and said, «Honey! Look! Ube! That’s a Filipino bakery for sure!»(Good goin’, my dear husband. You have learned well how to keep your Filipina wife happy.) After giddily stepping in the store and twirling princess style(Wheee! Yummy Filipino pastries!!!), we were greeted by the owner, Mang Jing.(«Jing» is his nickname. «Mang» means«Mister» in Filipino.) Super friendly! My husband talked to him about our recent vacation to the Philippines and how much he loves Filipino food and desserts. While they were talking, I went on «Yelp mode» and made observations/took photos of the place(with Mang Jing’s permission). Here are my findings: +Bakery on-site! Yay! That means bread/pastries made fresh! +Super clean! Yay!(I always get scared going to Filipino establishments because I have seen a lot of very dirty Filipino restaurants and grocery stores. This one, my friends, is a very clean store!) +It smells like pastries/bread when you come in here! Yay!(Again, Filipino establishments tend to smell like garlic, oil, vinegar, and other ingredients in Filipino food. This one, my friend, smells like a bake shop! Cha ching! Saved on laundry soap*! See my «Pecking Order» restaurant review regarding *saving laundry soap when visiting Filipino restaurants.) +Saw the workers/bakers in the back making pastries. They were wearing gloves, aprons, and hair nets, head gear(not necessarily chef hats, maybe bandanas? — Something to keep their hair off their faces while working). I was delighted! I am a clean freak and I was glad to see that handling of food was done in a very sterile way. +Super friendly service! The owner served us. He told us about the ingredients of the products and his trip to the Philippines. My husband had questions about the types of bread on the shelf. The owner explained to him the difference between each bread and gave my husband a sample of pan de sal and putok(types of bread). +To not get so «taba»(fat), we bought our own sampler variety: a slice of mango cake, a slice of mocha cake, a slice of ube(purple yam) cake, ensaymada(type of sponge cake with sweet icing and cheese on top), and mamon(type of sponge cake). All of ‘em were moist and delicious! The ube cake was our favorite! The filling inside the ube cake had a type of coconut in it and it was just soooooooo good! +Affordable. Our total purchase was $ 10.74. +They also do custom order cakes(see photos). Note: 1) This is a «take out» kind of bakery. No tables/seats. 2) They are open: MONDAYS — 9AM to 5PM TUES to SAT — 6AM to 6:30PM However, Mang Jing recommended you CALLBEFOREYOUDROPBY. Some nights, they extend their hours because they have to finish making ordered cakes/pastries/bread. Bottom line: Pastries so SARAPSARAP(very delicious)! Service so BA-ITBA-IT(very nice)! WEWILLDEFINITELYCOMEBACK! Even if we might get TABATABA(very fat)!

We ordered mango cake for my daughters birthday. Wow! What a complete disappointment. The mango wasn’t fresh in the cake. When we cut the cake there were frozen mango bits. The icing was however ok. We even called to make sure that the cake would be done on time. What more if we didn’t call. Just a note, this was not the first time we came here.

I haven’t been to this bakery yet, but Cakes ‘n Crumbs brought a sampling of their pastries to the Sunday, September 23, 2012 Adobofest in Morton Grove. I’ve only a bagful of this bakery’s rendition of the ensaymada(a brioche-like bread mostly eaten in the Philippines), but it was definitely one of the best in the Chicago area. The bread was so moist and flavorful, and not overly sugary or dry like ones I’ve had from other bakeries. But, I wish Cakes ‘n Crumbs had a website so that I can figure out what else they offer before I head out that way!
