Texaco

Cute gas station. Gas is pricey since you’re kind of out there but when you need gas and a bathroom break, might as well stop here. Interior is surprisingly cute and styled like a diner. The bathrooms were also surprisingly chic — nicely tiled, black sink and toilet and café-​type décor. Worth the potty break!

My family was passing thru on our way to Elvis birthplace… We stopped here for some snacks and directions. Wow… The cashier on duty had no teeth!, and she was rude. Found no southern hospitality here… felt like we were interrupting her by coming in the store. needless to say we left and went down the road to a place called fisher mans corner. The employees were so friendly, happy to see us, and gave us the directions to Elvis birthplace, even gave us tips on what to see on the way… what a wonderful example of Southern Hospitality…

Louisiana was such a breeze that I did not have to stop at all. I happened to be in Shreveport during lunchtime traffic and had to keep up with the locals. They were zooming the interstate like Nascar drivers. It was a beautiful drive, though. Mississippi was a beautiful drive as well. I passed through my birthplace and my mom’s hometown and wondered why she did not raise us there. The people we met there were quite friendly. I called my brother on the blackberry and told how beautiful it was and said, «Yeah, but it was the 60’s. Why the fuck do you think she got us out of there?»
Point taken.
We stopped in Morton for gas and I got a few chicken strips that were calling me and some more water. The little old ladies here were quite friendly and handed me a card with some bible verses on it.
Damn…maybe I look like a heathen or something. I smiled and took the card.
When I was packing to leave, I put the only bible I’ve ever owned (the one they gave me when I was baptized at 12) in storage.
I guess I won’t be needing it in this part of the country.
