What we saw in our hour at the Moss Landing Wildlife Area: Five sea otters, two of them pups. Ducks, coots, dunlin, stilt, sandpipers, heron, pelagic cormorant, gulls. Harbor seals, kayakers paddle boarders, and a beautiful marsh, mother of sea life, restored from an old salt refinery. My life is richer when I see bald eagles where there were none 10 years ago; swooping lines of graceful brown pelicans plying the waves, once nearly written off to extinction; sea otters, once nearly lost; a gray whale from another nearly extinct race spouting warm fishy fog feet away from my small boat. These are great human achievements. No only will we allow you creatures to live, we will help you thrive. A few of these creatures are supremely easy to see at the Moss Landing Wildlife Area. Blessings will follow.
