Mount Gilead State Park is surprisingly beautiful! And I do not mean that to belittle its size or location, but rather to highlight its quiet, unassuming charms. The longer we stayed the more we found to enjoy within the the 181 acre area which includes: old school playgrounds, picnic tables, shelters, fire rings, latrines, disk golf, RV parking, two spillway dams that create calm fishing lakes, and various wooded hiking trails. One can get a decent hike along paths that range from flat and open grass, to timber tie stairs that have naturally shifted and may pose a challenge to some. You may find mosquito repelant useful as you’re never far from water. But this also means you can(and should) be on the look out for the many tiny toads crossing.
