Talk of The Town Speech and Language Therapy

We have worked with Shaina for nearly TEN years. Our son has made consistent progress (he has apraxia and was non verbal) through working soley with her. We love to say «we knew her when.». because she worked with our boy before she had her own clinic and has remained reliable, consistent and professional. Shaina has not just given my son the ability to form words; she has given him the opportunity to COMMUNICATE. Language is about relaying a message or communicating needs; She uses tech devices, picture boards, physical prompting and good old fashioned enthusiasm (positive feedback! woo hoo!). She then works with him to use functional language in real life settings in her clinic by cooking in the kitchen, creative play through artwork and hands-​on prompting. The clinic is well planned out; the staff is second to none in all respects. In case you haven’t noticed, I am a huge fan of Talk of the Town and, more specifically, Shaina Rotstein. (I know her partners are also great, I just don’t have the same firsthand knowledge of their work with my own child)

I am so surprised and disappointed to see the 1 star review on Talk of the Town. I am a fellow speech and language pathologist working in a surrounding school district that shares cases with Shaina and Carla. My experience working with them has been nothing but positive. Not only are they both highly skilled in speech and language development, but they are accomplished and demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism. They are readily accessible and truly care about their students. I’m sure there is a gross misunderstanding with the precious reviewer and they would be more than open to discuss matters and clarify the situation.

They cut off my son’s therapy with complete disregard for the child for whom they had been providing therapy for seven months – and for which we paid for privately — they didn’t even offer to give him a final exit session or chance to say goodbye –all because I went to them with an issue (and had the courtesy to do so) … So much for the «always open» «come to us with anything» attitude they espouse.
Just awful, immature and unprofessional behavior in an industry that cares for children. Terrible.
Find another more professional clinic or clinician to care for your child.

They never tried to work anything out and were even written into my child’s school plan. They suddenly cut off therapy due to their personal insecurities and misplaced ideas about what they «thought» I felt. Which was completely untrue and just frankly — a strange way for professionals to behave. They did so without regard for my child’s welfare and the seven months he spent in their care. You decide for yourself if you want your child to go to a therapist for seven months and have those people to whom you give your trust– not even offer to allow your child to say goodbye!!! They are insecure and unprofessional. I am filing an ethics violation against this company.
STAY AWAY!!!
