Rita’s Italian Ice

I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn’t such a rip off with poor portions. If I pay the prices they are asking, my blendini better be filled to the top, not ¾ full.

Average everything at this location; service, staff, product, cleanliness, even the actual store and placement on rt 38!

Looking for something sweet on my way down 295 and this outpost of Ritas was the closest off the Interstate. It is not your usual freestanding Rita’s. Even though it faces onto 38, I thought it was kind of hidden and I did not notice signage on the pylon. It is at the corner on the northeast corner of Larchmont and 38 so just use that.
It has some interior seating and the normal Rita’s menu. I usually just get ice, but my son got a delicious gelati — which is a combination of layers of soft serve and ice — of mint chocolate chip ice and vanilla soft serve.
My favorite Rita’s flavor of all time is strawberry and I was so excited to see strawberry on the menu — only to get to the front of the line and find that they were actually out of that flavor.
Service was just average — there was only 1 person out front for most of our visit but a second person eventually came out of the back.
Rita’s means summer, but I don’t think the Rita’s experience here is as good as the experience you will have at a freestanding Rita’s with outdoor seating.

Well let me start with that I WAS excited to have moved across the street from this Rita’s. Unfortunately the young lady behind the counter had a huge attitude problem and seemed to not be able to handle the crowd. My husband asked for a Blendini which seemed to be a problem for her to make and it only filled ¹⁄₃ of the cup. My gelati was not made properly either… total rip off for $ 9…

I know everyone raves about Ritas… and I guess my only gripe is that I think it is insane that you have to pay $ 3 – 4 dollars for something that costs 10 – 15 cents to make. Also, the place is always, and I mean always dirty inside. When we go, we have to walk home with it, because we get grossed out by the sitting area.

Pretty cool place always have my favorite ice (mango!) but I think you guys should have more variety. You always have the same ones alllllll the time. Other Rita’s keep the ones that people love PLUS switch up constantly. Seems like you guys never switch up and that you hate being there. Smile a little!

So I was craving something sweet, How pray tell do I give in to?
I went to my neighborhood Rita’s. Open til 9pm, until Sept.30^th-then we won’t see the doors open til Spring-​So sad! As I enter, one man show (teen) I looked at the flavors, mango, coconut cream, *Pumpkin, cantaloupe., etc. I didn’t wasn’t to try the Pumpkin, since really in denial if Summer being over, but I did try it, Sigh. To my surprise, It was quite delightful. just right amount of spice, Cinnamon without overpowering the *pumpkin flavor. I got a small gelati with coconut cream & pumpkin spice. I did go with Slenderita –soft serve which less fattening. So yummy!!! Hope people get it in before this location closes in a week.

Being from New England, I’d never experienced the water ice or custard phenomena that seems to be indigenous to South Jersey and Philly. However I wished this chain would open up everywhere. It’s a gem.
The cream ice is heavenly, and what’s even better is the cream ice with custard in the same cup, a gelato or gelati. Whatever it’s called, it’s lovely on a hot day.

How this place has only one other review, I will never know. It seems like Rita’s is a hidden gem. And if it is, it’s a rare, shiny one that should be illuminated before the whole world!
Do not underestimate the goodness of this humble Italian ice stand. The fruit ices taste like sorbets; some of them even have fruit chunks in them (example, piña colada has chunks of real pineapple!). An oldie but goodie for me is the mango water ice… if you have ever fallen in love with Haagen Daaz mango sorbet, the mango water ice will seduce your taste buds. Other examples of fruit include lemonade, Florida orange, blue raspberry, kiwi strawberry, and wild black cherry.
For those craving something sugary sweet, Rita’s offers cream ice (which I have yet to try… I have heard it’s similar to regular ice cream, but not quite as much fat).
To fully indulge in Rita’s however, I believe one must have the gelati. Basically it’s the best of Rita’s two best: the water ice and the frozen custard. Frozen vanilla (or at least it’s usually vanilla… flavors are really starting to branch out) custard tops off your water ice flavor of choice, and at the bottom of the cup, more frozen custard greets you and leaves you with a heavenly bliss in your very fortunate mouth.
Being from the West Coast, I simply have to come here every time I go to visit family who lives out in this area. It’s a family tradition that every one finds enjoyable and satisfying.
