Food was ok. Escargot was great. Service was horrible. At first I thought it was due to the lack of a bartender, but quickly realized our waitress was flustered and didn’t really know what she was doing. I’ve worked in the service industry and tried to have sympathy, but it was lost. Had a reservation for a party of 10. They were not prepared. Only two servers, and they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Had to ask for ordered drinks several times, meals were cold and check was wrong. Coffee was left off bill, and instead of leaving off(which would have slightly made up for poor service) the waitress made a point to add whilst my sister helped her figure out the check. Not once did the chef come out to apologize or thank us for our patronage. No recommendation here. Would give half a star if I could.

An excellent meal, in fact it was memorable! From the tomato, beet and asparagus salad to the mahi mahi served on a bed of white beans and leeks it was heaven. This was our first visit, but it will not be our last.

The good reviews were on point with this little Mount Pleasant gem. Came here on Saturday night. Attendance was surprising light considering the reviews. Food: The escargot was not the best in town, but it was ok. Fortunately the meal only got better from there. The rack of lamb was extremely tender and full of flavor — most likely after having been marinated for several days. As is often the case with rack of lamb, i wish there more on the plate, but oh well. The Scottish Salmon was very fresh and served with a mild but tasty mustard based rub. The duck was very tender and cooked to perfection. Dessert was above average. All in all a great Mount Pleasant find, with some room to take their game to 5 star status.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Belle Hall. I had recommendations to go & finally got to go Saturday night. It was great. Did the $ 25.00 special. 3 of us. I had a swordfish steak & the other two had duck. They were all fantastic plates of food. We also had the salad & prosciutto played as apps. It really was very very good & a glass of house wine. Choice of red or white & as far as house wine usually goes it’s crap. Not here. The wine was excellent. Then I had a dessert place if chocolate ganache. OMG fantastic. This was extra to the special along with expresso. I will definitely return. The staff were more than accommodating, helpful & friendly. We are very lucky to have such a fine caliber French Restaurant so near by. Loved it all.

Went back with a bunch of gals and enjoyed the new Prix Fix menu $ 25 for 3 courses. Excellent buy for what you get. I think this restaurant is a «hidden gem» but worry that not many know about it. They want it to be «word of mouth»…well, in Mt. P. there is a lot of people eating but not so sure sharing. However, go there; it’s great & the service is always perfecto. Look them up on Facebook; they offer a great presentation of what their meals are…

I’ve been to Larees and Charles etc. in NYC, the Four Seasons in Philly and the old Coco’s in Mt. Pleasant and I don’t consider myself a food critic or extremely knowledgeable gourmand but I’ve had some fine French food. This place offers a prix fixe menu in addition to it’s regular menu and I was told it changes weekly. I had that prix fixe which was an amazing salad with mushrooms called Champignons Grec(may have mis-spelled this) and a dish with Mahi Mahi the name of which I have sorrowfully forgotten and they were both delicious and interesting and I don’t know where else you would get them around here. I’ve had the fare at many of the usual overpriced places touted in Charleston and certainly I love FIG and used to love Carolina’s, never liked Magnolia’s or Hank’s that much but do like the Peninsula Grill allright, just to give you a backdrop. This is the best French food for the money by far. The atmosphere is so tasteful and cozy. It is real. they don’t try to make it look like a phony French farmhouse or the Palace of Versailles. It is simple elegance. We had a wonderful dessert too and some great wine and some complimentary cocktails with strawberries, mint, Grand Marnier and a splash of sparkling wine which were excellent and seemingly original. The prix fixe is $ 25 for appetizer and entrée. The wine and desserts very reasonable as well. Most of the entrees were 18 — 29 dollar range but what’s more is the taste and the experience. Anyone can do cheap though few French Restaurants do except perhaps the lunch place Gaulart and Maliclet on Broad St. which is a very good place by the way, but is more like a lunch counter. Bougnat is a little hard to find which the best places sometimes are. Long Point Road to across from Belle Hall, across the lot from Planet Fitness is the best way I can describe it. Check it out. Not sure of the hours.

Second Review: Came here when I was notified they are now offering $ 25 sampling meals, appetizer, entrée and glass of house wine. There were only two options for appetizer and two options for entrees so with my wife in tow, we had everything. Their Cream of Mushroom soup was very hearty and earthy. Great flavors. The Tomato, Mozzarella, asparagus was good. Wife had the Lamb which was OUTSTANDING. Very earthy, full bodied and tender. I had the Fish stuffed with salmon mousse, also very good. Can’t wait to see what is on their next weeks menu.

We decided to check out Bougnat after a friend of ours highly recommended it. She was absolutely correct! the staff is friendly and warm, and the atmosphere is cozy. The menu is classic, simple French, with a small, but fitting & affordable wine list. The food was beyond wonderful. Everything was cooked & seasoned perfectly. We stuffed ourselves silly, completing the dinner with profiteroles, ice cream and espresso. Not only will we be back, but we’ll tell as many people as possible to check it out as well.

Several people recommended Bougnat. Probably one of the more authentic French restaurants in the Charleston area. The waitresses were very attentive and the chef was friendly. The cheese plate was pretty standard, nothing special. The mian entrees were great. We had the beef and the coq au vin. As others have mentioned the coq au vin is a lot of food. It was well seasoned and the chicken was perfectly moist. The beef was also excellent. We didn’t have enough room to try the dessert but were very tempted by the profiteroles so we will return for those at another time!

What a find! Flavorful, reasonably priced French dishes right in Mt Pleasant. Our favorite kind of restaurant — cloth napkin in a strip of neighborhood shops. You know this type of restaurant is owned and operated by a family, and they are likely on premises to make sure all is to their standards. We both had fish — flounder and the swordfish special — which were delicately prepared, but the real stars were the tourrine and foie gras pâté special. Melt in your mouth pates on both plates. The other star was the brulee — creamy and only subtly sweet. Staff could not have been more engaging, from prompt call back confirming our reservation, to the welcome at the front door, to the chef’s «dining room walk through». Our waitress, Gabrielle, was a charming guide through the wine list and menu. One concern — hard to find location, with no signage at the main street, no Open Table listing, etc. Though word of mouth seems to be a positive force for them, and the good Unilocal reviews caught our eye, will this gem survive without some additional basic marketing?

We went for Sunday brunch & were pleased with how hospitable the hostess was. The server greeted us quickly, was very friendly, accommodating to our requests and provided great service throughout. We were checked in on by other servers during the course of the meal & the chef stopped by the table afterwards giving it a very«family» feeling & warm atmosphere. Overall service gets top stars from us! We started with the mussels which we liked and had no problem finishing but we did feel like it was missing some component; tarragon, thyme, saffron maybe? It just felt like it needed an herb to finish the flavor. I had the duck confit with potatoes. The duck was good; perhaps slightly on the dry side but the sauce was delicious! The potatoes and side vegetables were quite tasty and I didn’t even make it to the side salad before filling up. My husband got the Potato Goat Cheese Tart which we felt was a bit bland. It pretty much tasted as advertised– like goat cheese & potato wrapped in a piece of salmon. Overall we didn’t have anything we didn’t like, we felt there were some flavor improvements that could raise the dishes up a notch. We will return again in the future & hope to see them flourish. The one thing that left a sour note in our mouths actually had nothing to do with anything ingested. 15.5% sales tax applied to the entire meal!!! While we did have mimosas and I realize the excise tax for alcohol is 15.5% that should not have been applied to everything! So check your bills if you have alcohol

We had a party of six a couple weeks ago try this Great new French restaurant. I felt as though I needed to write about this wonderful restaurant after reading the review in the Charleston P&C. The person who wrote the article must be new or not know French food. She gave the restaurant 2 and a half stars but had almost no negatives in her article. Which goes to show you never trust a restaurant critic. Our whole party had nothing but praises for the service and the food. This is a classic French restaurant. I had the special of the night Lamb Chops. Perfectly done and about the best I have had in a long time. I would recommended this restaurant to anyone who wants great French food.

Fabulous! New French restaurant. We could not have been happier with our meals. Escargot very traditional and perfect. Duck to die for & horseradish crusted salmon was oh so yummy. Several deserts to pick from and it was a tough choice. Cream brûlée was the creamiest that I have ever had.

A neighborhood secret. Amazing French restaurant. Who would think there would be a slice of Europe in the middle of Mount Pleasant. Highly recommended!
