Koa Kampgrounds of Mt Shasta

I rented two cabins for my family. Nicole made sure they were close together. We all had a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

Stopped here twice on a whim in the snow. Warm showers, generally friendly staff, good scenery, nice location.
My gripe is that both times the tent and basic RV sites were inexplicably closed and/​or inaccessible due to snow. It seemed like they just didn’t want to plow them out. I only needed a cheap tent site, but ended up having to pay $ 40/​night for a mid level RV site.

We stayed here for one night on a trip to Oregon. The office personnel were great, friendly and helpful. We had a little cabin with a bathroom. It was very tiny, but for one night it was doable. However, the room had a really bad mildew smell that made me a bit sick all night. Looking closely at the floor I noticed it had a layer of linoleum laid on top that was curling up at the edges and the floor under looked strange. Also the floor seemed a bit warped in a spot right before the bathroom door. I was afraid to look closely but suspect the floor was the cause of the smell. Due to the fact that we played some shuffleboard before unpacking, the office was closed by the time we gave them back the equipment and then put a few suitcases, etc, into the cabin, so it was too late to ask to move. The bathtub had no stopper so I had to improvise, and the water tank had to be the absolute smallest ever. I couldn’t get even a third of a tub of warm water, and it’s a tiny tub. Hubby decided to wait to shower at our place in Oregon rather than try to get in a super fast shower before the water ran cold. They had no soap to wash hands; luckily we had brought our own. No towels either. They did tell us to bring bedding, which we did, but it would have been nice to know they didn’t carry hand soap in the bathroom-​something I’ve never seen anywhere before! I mean, come on, how much would it cost them to add a bar of hotel soap to the room? The room was really cold, and we couldn’t use the heater at night as it is the absolute noisiest heater I’ve ever heard… we had to almost yell over it to carry on a conversation. So, since I didn’t bring a quilt, just a blanket, I shivered all night and slept very little. The plastic on the bed didn’t help either-​it crackled at every move. Also, one of our pet peeves is having equipment for games that is worn out… replacing the shuffleboard sticks would not be expensive. Oh, the WiFi doesn’t work unless you are near the office-​so no internet while we were there. All in all, it was not a place I’d return to.

Yay! This was our first time «glamping» and it was very convenient. We were checked in right away and the cabin was adorable. There is a porch swing! Lots of fire pits and picnic tables. The water tasted so refreshing!
The bathroom situation was good and clean! Three shower stalls and three bathroom stalls near registration.
I think the best part was the grounds keeper’s singing! not only does he have a great voice, he is very knowledgeable of Mt. Shasta and the town itself :)

Stayed here on a drive from Salem, Oregon and am glad i stayed here. The tent sites are in a forested area with not too much space between the sites of other people. Campground was pretty quiet but there was a train that ran by at 3:30 am. So prepare yourself with ear plugs. If you are coming from Northbound Interstate 5 and exiting off the freeway and driving down the side road, the signage can be kind of hard to see since it was hidden, This was the first KOA campsite i’ve stayed at and will be back as well as staying at other KOA campgrounds!!!

This KOA has become our base after several trips to Mt. Shasta. They are generally friendly and we have enjoyed staying in the basic 2 room Kamping Kabins (no bathroom). On two occasions when it was cold and heaters were required, the electricity kept going off. Eventually we stopped asking them to flip the breaker and I started doing it myself. After two weekend visits with the same issue, the owner said he would put a note on our account giving us a free night at our next visit. He also brought us some newly cut wood for our fire at no cost. After several months, we went back and he was true to his word… we got our free night. We didn’t need heat on that trip so I have no idea if they fixed their electrical issues.
We like Kamping Kabins 48, 49, and 54 because they are away from the main traffic and RVs. There is good tree cover, which makes it feel like you’re a little more isolated than you really are. There are a lot of tent sites behind the kabins and when those are full, it’s a little noisy. But we seem to be there most when there are few tent campers.
We had 1 night in Kamping Kottage 6, which felt a lot smaller than the Kabin but offered a full bathroom, microwave, refrigerator, and table with chairs. The toilet stopped working at some point in the evening and we were told a plumber couldn’t come until the next day. My handy partner was able to fix it temporarily so we could at least use the bathroom during the night.
The kids enjoyed the playground and the pool… both are pretty small. It would be nice if they offered a little more programming for children and families like other KOAs around Northern California do. But then Mt. Shasta offers plenty of entertainment itself.
Overall we’ve had good experiences at reasonable prices. Maintenance could be a little better but since we usually sleep in tents, we’re not too bothered. I just hope they get the electrical issues worked out before we go back when it’s cold.

We were here at the end of June. This place was okay. It’s a nice looking place and the playground area seems to be a good place for kids and their families to play/​relax.
The sites are somewhat unleveled with ruts. Be sure to have blocks to level your rv. Jacks might not touch the ground otherwise.
The power was out for a few hours during our stay, and it was hot. ACs were needed. My father-​in-​law and uncle-​in-​law (both certified electricians) both said the wiring in the boxes were junk in need of replacement. Some of the employees were rude when we asked if we could get a partial refund if the power wasn’t fixed. The boss was nice; he came to our sites personally and told us when the power was fixed.

What a dump! RV sites dirt and Not level with ruts. Sites compact and close together. Hope everyone has surge protectors on their rigs. The people running it are not very accommodating nor are they friendly. The place needs some TLC and updating.

There was a family of 7 next to us. cigarette smoke wafted into our rv. The worst thing was the meth drug dealing going on through the wee hours of the morning. The ease of making the reservation was nice and so was the staff.

Beautiful Campgrounds! Lots of activities and stuff for the kids and adults, free showers. We saw a family of deer from our campsite, that was awesome. Friendly and helpful staff!

If you have forgotten anything and their store does not have it, town is so close .
Great place for all ages and disabilities. Play basketball, pool, bike rentals, and/​or meet your fellow neighbors.
I did see a raccoon, so don’t leave food out on the table.
If you plan to go to the Lake Shasta Caverns from here, it’s 50 mins South.
The police/​fire dept. close by for emergencies.
Klamath is about 4 hours away for the Skytrail.
Go enjoy this campground and it’s surroundings.

We had a nice experience at this campground. It has a nice little store and everything you need to be comfortable. It close in to other services yet far enough away to enjoy some peace. We arrived with short notice an was treated very well, the staff is very responsive. The grounds are clean and well kept and everything was functional. Spaces are good and level with easy access. We will definitely return when in the area! One of our better experiences. We asked for a pull through site as we travel with a 38 ft fifth wheel.

We arrived after hours and didn’t know where to park since this was our first time in our new RV. Surprisingly the on site attendant came out and opened the store and was very nice showing us where/​how to hook up. We had ran out of propane so he gave us a heater from their cabins. Was very nice and even held a flashlight so my son could play at their playground after an 8 hr drive. Yes it was by the tracks but the train didn’t bother us. Hot showers with a shower chair in each stall was a nice touch so if your were disabled you would always have one available.

My truck broke down. the tow truck driver took me to the KOA with my travel trailer in tow. they had no problem with me staying as long as I needed to have the truck repaired. I had no vehicle to run around with. bill the manager on duty offered me a ride to the store and I accepted it. that’s good customer service I really appreciate it .bill did a great job. the facility is a little older but they take good care of it. I would stay there again without thinking twice. once again let me state that there staff at the KOA in Mount Shasta city was very friendly and very respectful and definitely very helpful. thx you koa

We were stopping here overnight on our way to Oregon.
Our arrival was going to be after hours (somehow we ended up running WAY later than we expected… sigh). We called the office and they were totally cool, walked us through the after-​hours check-​in procedure.
Our assigned site was occupied when we landed, but the site next to it was available so we crawled into that site and fell onto our noses, to the most restful sleep we had probably our whole trip.
Reviewers on Unilocal and other places commented on the train whistling through town in the middle of the night. We both heard the whistle but as a background that didn’t break our sleep at all. We were up and out early, well before the staff arrived, so another phone call from the road to let them know where we’d ended up staying and that we were gone already.
Again, the staff was super helpful and patient. We give them high marks despite never meeting them in person, because phone communications can go terribly terribly wrong, but these calls were terribly terribly RIGHT!
Overall, we look forward to returning next time we’re headed to Oregon.

Clean KOA. Some train noises at night but not too intrusive. Wife went running with our lab through the city park (not part of koa) and ran into a bees nest. Wife and dog got stung multiple times…
Would stay here again.

Rented a cab

Campground needs to be updated. First of all, they are doing construction, should be done during off season. Game room, most games broken, there is a stove and microwave sitting in game room. The kids are waiting for the pool to open, it opened at 8, but the guy is cleaning it at 11:15? Playground needs updating. Laundry room has out of order washers. The office closed 2 hours before it was suppose to.
Staff is very nice.

Had such an amazing time here! If you want that forest nature feel this is the place. We got a one room cabin which was very clean and amongst some very tall trees. I woke up to find Canadian geese walking around. The game room is pretty cool they have this awesome airplane game my brother and I used to play on SEGA back in the day. The people in charge here were very nice and open minded. Had a good vibe :) always trying to make sure we were ok when we saw them. What i loved about my cabin was the little swinging seat on the little front porch!
Wifi is available near the office, not in the cabin. The showers and bathroom was clean and the water was nice and warm. The cabin comes with a heater and some outlets. Very VERY good price up in shasta! There is a train but in the cabin it is pretty muted so we just slept right through it. I didnt really notice much dust in our cabin at all. It could be the time of season? They did provide a broom which was nice to sweep out the dirt from your shoes. I did not see the management that much but it wasn’t really a problem for me at all. They were really nice when we did meet and they were in the office during hours. Overall it was a great place to come back to to rest and enjoy from the day of adventuring.
TIP: the office hours are around 11am –4pm. So if you come from afar plan to arrive in that time span. Also, bring your own linens (this includes sheets, blankets, and pillows). Come prepared, this is like camping so bring your toiletries, flashlights, towels. They do sell wood at the office convenience store. So if you have a fire ring you can use it.
To the negative reviews, you pretty much get what you pay for. That aside, its not even really dirty to me. If you want that luxurious experience go to an inn, no a campground.
