Great restaurant that we stopped into after reading reviews on Unilocal. Also one of the 7 year olds in our party is named Allison so we thought would be great memories! It is the type of restaurant that we would frequent often if we lived in the area. Everything was good and the chicken tenders are hand breaded which makes me happy when you have a kid that only eats chicken nuggets or steak… We’re sad to see we missed breakfast with Santa by 3 hours. I didn’t see it listed on the website so we only knew about it by the sign posted on the front door

They have great service and very friendly waitress. We have a very delicious meal every time we go there. The hot chocolate is great.

Oh boy, where do I start. The prices are the best part about this place. This is by far the most pretentious place in town. It’s not good, the menu is limited, and the staff is incompetent. And the owner is quite literally the definition of an enigma. One star is a compliment for this place. I suspect most of the food is microwaved before it actually gets to the table, because I few times my orders have hot and cold spots. None, and I mean none of the waitress can get an order correct to save their lives. Also, if you happen to get a waitress that’s isn’t high as a kite or strung out on meth, consider yourself lucky. They will hire anyone.

When visiting my sibling that attends Kenyon, we always find ourselves staying at the Holiday Inn, conveniently located right near Allison’s Finer Diner and we always find ourselves having at least one meal here during our visits. When you first walk in you are greeted by super friendly and welcoming staff, and it definitely has a classic diner vibe with a very classic diner menu. When we come here we typically order the meatloaf and the chicken and noodles. The food is definitely good for diner grub, but like traditional diner food it is on the heavier side, so after a good couple bites of the gravy and mashed potatoes I was full and didn’t feel any desire to continue eating. So for those who live by a healthier-diet this is not the place for you, but if you want some good old American comfort food, this is the place to be!

Good food, great service. Will eat here again when I’m back in Mount Vernon. Got the sirloin steak. House salad was on a chilled plate, which I love. Mashed potatoes where tasty and fresh. Dinner for two for approximately 30 dollars. Again, the Service was excellent!

Pretty mediocre food at best typical basic choices, burgers and such. Breakfast wasn’t anything special.

For breakfast this is the best place in town by a country mile. I like the ham Benedict with hash brown casserole, a must have. I’ve had it at least five times. I’ve had their lunch/dinner as well, but was less impressed. Their burgers are average and the fries are frozen fare.

I had one of the tastiest meat loafs here but, it could have been a little bigger. Alison’s is an amazingly clean diner. Good classic menu. I also got a mozzarella stick appitizer. I was surprised at how many cheese sticks I got. Dining by my self I sat at the bar. Struck up a conversation with 2 guys that were in town on business all the way from New Castle, UK. Very nice laid back atmosphere, the staff was was also very nice and personable. All in all a very positive dining experience.

This business catered a recent meeting for my company. I had heard about the business, but never had the occasion to try it. It was a great spread, with pulled pork and a choice of either barbecue sauce or pork gravy. I’m only sad that I chose one… the barbecue sauce was awesome. It’s an excuse to go sometime for seconds. Sides: The beans were good, but the potatoes were terrific. For dessert, the Oreo Mousse… it sounds strange and looks possibly stranger. It tastes like Oreo, though… and it’s really good. The staff was very friendly, and it was a great overall experience. I would definitely swing by when I’m on the occasional trip to Mount Vernon.

I travel and ended up staying in the hotel behind the restaurant, Walked over and had a refreshing dinner! The employees were very friendly and smiling. When they weren’t waiting on customers they were cleaning! I had a wedge salad and salmon. The meal was very good, and the price was right! Service was fast and she came by a couple of times to check on me. I am a little sad I don’t get here often… but I did find a favorite place to visit! Stop in and you will be happy!

The choices in the Mount Vernon, Ohio dining scene aren’t that varied or unique. But among the great gray wash of diners and Americanized Chinese restaurants, Allison’s Finer Diner sits slightly apart from the others. I generally only go to Allison’s for breakfast, so I’ll have to limit my review to that. But the breakfast menu contains a number of inspired offerings: quiche of the day, cranberry walnut french toast, German potatoes, a broad array of eggs and pancakes and sides. The food is prepared reasonably well, but doesn’t inspire scenes from When Harry Met Sally. Sometimes things are overcooked, or your side of ham is cold, but usually everything is A-OK. Coffee is served in mugs from local businesses, the orange juice is watery and comes out of a spigot. When Allison’s first opened, it seemed like everything was going to be amazing. The people who worked there were friendly and everyone seemed pretty happy. But the honeymoon appears to be over, smiles look forced, and when the waitresses think you’re not looking, they look pretty miserable. Maybe Mt. Vernon isn’t the tipper it used to be. A few other perks: the bathrooms are clean and bright and have their own muzak channel. There is a banquet room and a bar, in case you need a vodka martini with your breakfast. The fish tank is surprisingly colorful and well-maintained. All in all, this is a great place to go with family for a meal.
