Hunan Garden

For years and years I have depended on Hunan for Asian cuisine in Mount Vernon. I love their sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls and lo mein. Great place to eat!

Bland, plain, and no spice! Service was good but that ain’t enough. Hard to find location didn’t help. Prices are very low at least but you get what you pay for. Best part of meal was hot & sour soup.

Hunan’s is amazing. My boyfriend took me there when we first started dating as our first official «outing» together and we haven’t stopped sense. I know why it’s an obsession in his family now! The menu has variety, but is not overly complex and items are described for anyone who isn’t exactly a connoisseur! The environment is laid back and private enough for dates to be comfortable. The staff is friendly and remembers you if you go back! Their lunch specials are a must. Best Chinese food in Mount Vernon, for sure.

Always a great place. It’s one of the better ones here. No buffet but good service and the food is good and fresh. It’s a mad house on Christmas, I guess everyone wants the duck. we go here regularly. Great place with great food. You should go.

If you love classic Chinese food this is it. It tends to be a bit greasy but they have many good dishes. Overall the restaurant décor could be updated. The hot and sour soup is the best I have ever had.

Hunan Garden is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant. The food is always great. And the service is usually pretty fast. Sweet & Sour Chicken or General Tso’s Chicken is usually what I get. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon is amazing also! It’s great for lunch and for take out (which is what we are doing tonight). Stop in and check it out, you won’t regret it!

I love Hunan. Great service and the best Chinese in the area. You really can’t go wrong when choosing a place to eat. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. Although when you order a soda the bring you a glass of ice and a 16oz bottle. Which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it. I just stick with water. The hostess is always a delight and is great to talk to. I’ve never had a bad meal from this place. Often times I find that I order too much food and end up taking it home. Large portions for a good price, although they offer great lunch deals.
Choose this place over the buffet.

This isn’t what I would call fantastic Chinese food, but it is definitely the best in Mount Vernon. They have several dishes that I would recommend, including the Sautéed Green Beans with Shrimp, Beef with Garlic Sauce and General Tso Chicken.

I’ve tried this place twice, bad experiences both times. The second and final time they put shrimp in my order of pork fried rice… I’m allergic!!!

Hunan Garden is a good Chinese restaurant. The food can be so delicious but not all the time. Be careful when they are a little slower at night, because you might get some nasty tasting chicken. Other than that, their food is usually really good! Their prices are decent, as well. The main complaint I have for them is that they need to calm down and relax. I have gotten hung up on a few times on the phone before even completing my take out order. I understand you are busy and trying to hurry, but please give me the time and respect to place my complete take out order. The other day, I called in to get a side of fried rice, crab rangoons, and egg drop soup. The only thing I got to say was that I wanted a side of fried rice, and I was told it would be 5 minutes, thanks, and bye. Wow! How rude. It made me so upset. Whoever is working the cash register and phone needs to relax a little and not rush their customers. If they succeed in doing so, this would be a fantastic place to dine and get take out!

Nice Chinese place close to Kenyon College. Was there with a party of five. Service was attentive and all dishes were tasty. I especially liked the Lake Tung Tung shrimp.

Friendly service. The food is healthy for its type. Wonderful portions of broccoli for dishes containing this vegetable.

We order from here regularly. Hunan beef & fried rice is my favorite. Generous lunch portion at a decent price.

I have been to Hunan Garden a few times and have had some bad experiences with customer service and restaurant cleanliness, but overall the biggest issue is the food quality.
The food is very greasy, swimming in sauce (which I really hate), and lacks proper seasoning. There is absolutely NO WAY to get them to make things spicy. No matter how many ways I have asked, the food has never even registered on the spice scale.
Overall, this is a place I avoid. If I am pressed for time or otherwise desperate I will go, but I must learn to lower my expectations.

I had Hunan Garden a while ago and was not excited about it. Now two years later we tried it again, because King Garden closed, and it was pretty good. We had the vegetarian delight and the veggies were lightly steamed (which is perfect). My kids had the House Special lo mien and they loved it. Will eat here again.

This family owned restaurant is located on the hill next to Kmart and is not only a great value, but the food is great! The atmosphere is typical Chinese-​American and the wait staff are friendly and efficient. I have tried most items on the menu, but seem to always go back to egg drop soup and the House Special Fried rice. Don’t forget the eggrolls! Some of the best egg rolls you will ever have! They have a great and inexpensive lunch menu.
