We spend a week in ME for family vacation every year. We found this place about 4 years ago. We come almost every morning for breakfast and are never disappointed! Everything is great! We’ve had it all!

Time of Visit: Lunch on August 16th Positives: The paninis were fantastic, local ingredients, view of the lake, cool«café» vibe Negatives: Coffee, potato chips Order: The California panini, Ham and Chutney panini, Iced coffee My wife and I went her for lunch on our vacation and it was a great spot to get food and enjoy a delicious, filling lunch together. We ordered the California panini, Ham and Chutney panini, iced coffee and a late. The California was a grilled turkey with avocado and muenster cheese, the Ham and Chutney was a local honey cured ham with a sweet chutney and both the them were fantastic. The ham and muenster cheese specifically tasted so fresh there was no doubt they were local ingredients. The chutney really set the ham panini apart, it was a perfect accompaniment to the ham. It added just the right amount of sweet to the savory of the ham, if had the perfect texture, not too chunky without having the consistency of jelly. I think that the pairing of local ham and chutney was really specially and made it a better sandwich, while the California panini was good it just wasn’t that special I can get a good chicken and cheese panini in a lot of places. The location was really cool as well; the café sits next to a lake and the view is spectacular. It’s very relaxing and creates a very cool atmosphere to unwind. The downside here was, by a huge margin, the coffee. We ordered an iced coffee and cappuccino, and honestly, both were terrible. The iced coffee tasted like it had tea in it, and not a little bit of tea, it was like they mixed their black tea in with their mixed coffee and honestly just gross. The cappuccino was better, but not by a lot. The quality of the actual beans probably weren’t that good but it also tasted burnt, my guess would be that they were using a low quality espresso machine without good instruction on how to pull espresso. To be fair my wife and I are complete coffee snobs and it could be that their plain black coffee is «ok» but it I wouldn’t recommend their coffee to anyone. Just eat their food, and get your caffeine fix somewhere else.

Great breakfast place! Fresh homemade baked goods are amazing — best cinnamon rolls around! Inside and outside(screened porch) seating available. Quiet eclectic décor with wooden tables and local artisans.

Make no mistake: this is no bargain breakfast. Good: fried and scrambled eggs = absolutely delicious; ditto the bacon. Bad: Home fries were over-oiled and herbed to the point of bitterness; coffee and tea stone cold by the time the food is served, so they should offer to «hot you up.» Note: bread was quite good, but they miss an opportunity by not serving thick, voluptuous slices with jam. If you care: pleasant staff; no table service; bus your own dishes. No reason to go; no reason to return.

This is our go-to place for breakfast or brunch/lunch. The food is so so very good. It’s a beautiful town as well. We even went for swim in the lake after lunch one day in the summer.

The Olde Post Office Café is — for now — a hidden gem. Wherever you’re coming from, it’s worth the drive for the menu, community, and charming locale. Cheers!

Everything I have ever had here has been very good. It is a nice spot to stop in and enjoy a breakfast or lunch. I have not been there for dinner yet but hope to get back for a meal this summer. Sometimes a little pricey, but the food is very good!

OK so you know by the reviews that this place is really something special, not only in central Maine, but all of New England! Naturally the location on the lake is prime in this nice small town. The food is always delicious, even with the limited dinner menus. Thank the gods they are now serving dinners, something the previous owners did only rarely. And don’t forget the baked goods… fantastic. One of the rare gems that make central Maine worth a trip.

Not very often that I give five stars but this time they’ve earned it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’ve had it all, and the simple menu surpasses any expectations. Everything is fresh and homemade(and I mean everything). Prices are extremely reasonable and the people there«own it»! Try the breakfast sandwich or a simple grilled blueberry muffin for breakfast. Any of their lunch Sammie’s are delish, and the dinner menu is simple yet diverse and spot on. Don’t stop there… when we ordered dessert I swore they purchased from a bakery, but no way… made on the premises. This is old school at its finest. Live long and prosper OPOC!

We were at the Old Post Office Café for dinner, which until now they only did once a month. The restaurant was full and the staff a bit harried, but they were very pleasant and accomodating. The food was excellent as always. The portions were reasonable and priced to match. The beer and wine were very reasonably priced. The Café specializes in breakfast and pastry, which are always very good. Reservations highly recommended for dinner as it is usually a sell out.

I look forward to coming here every summer when I visit Maine. Their breakfast sandwich is the best I’ve ever had. Not to mention, good food in a small town can be hard to come by. I love this place, visit if you’re nearby.

Great, great breakfast spot. Lively clientele on a long weekend morning. Try to get a table at the back which overlooks the lake. Husband liked the breakfast burritos and the kids inhaled the cinnamon rolls. Stuffed French Toast was yummy, if a little too sweet. A real oasis! Everything we had seemed homemade. Can’t wait to try the pies! And lunch!

Okay, I’m an email/internet junky. I get the shakes if I’m denied internet access. The idea of vacationing in a remote area i.e. a small village in the woods of Maine made me nervous. My companion assuaged my fear with the fact that I’d have wifi available at the local café. So here I am in, the utterly charming village of Mount Vernon, Maine clacking away on my iPad, day 4 of a lake-side(pond as they call it here) vacation, just having finished breakfast. So it was the wifi that got me in the door, but it’s the food I have to rave about and that will keep me coming back. This is a world class restaurant. My traveling partner is a certified foodie. She concurs. Bob the owner/chef, a retired journalist from Boston, has created a sophisticated and wholesome menu that belies the backwoods setting. For someone like me, on a pretty severe diet, the choices are terrific. Even the oatmeal is the best I’ve ever eaten. Just this morning, I’ve heard other customers say the same, «best I’ve ever eaten» about the veggy hummus wrap, a BLT and a Cobb salad. Seriously, this«best I’ve ever eaten» all happened in the 15 minutes or so, I’ve been writing this review. The raves go and on… For my foodie friend, the choices are fantastic. If you are anywhere near this area, put this on your itinerary as a culinary destination.

What a wonderful find in this tiny charming little lake town in Maine. I’m so happy we ran across this place a year ago and it’s still up and running. It was certainly busier this year, but we were up for a holiday season. We were lucky enough to have them serve us breakfast two days in a row. There food is made with fresh ingredients that are sure to please your palate, unless you’re the McDonalds lover. They even have mimosas — oh yeah! We have eaten her for breakfast and lunch and both were enjoyable. The prices are right as well. It’s order at the counter and they bring you your meal. I love that they have real coffee too — great way to start the day.

What a great little café… It is, quite literally, in the middle of an itty bitty small town. So very little. Great décor, friendly staff, and a fabulous menu — and right on the lake/pond/small body of water. I had a lemon tarragon chicken panino(yes — singular panini!) with avocado and red onion. So delish. If you’re in the area, stop by. You won’t have many other choices, but you also won’t be sorry.
