I love ramen and I don’t discriminate against any ramen place. They’re all individually unique and good in their own way. I love Maru Ichi for their sesame/garlic soup! Also, they give just the right amount of meat! I always get their combo with gyoza and california roll. So worth! Also, remember this place is cash only!

Tried quite a few ramen places in the Bay Area now and this one is unique in that they make their own noodles(you can see them making it in the front of store too if you need more proof) Broth was pretty good but I’ve had much better broth. Noodles were great, really soft and delicious. Go light on noodles unless you love loading up on carbs. They serve kimchi on every table which I thought was weird but kimchi? Ok sure

Good Ramen, but not great Ramen. A quick note, Maru Ichi does NOT accept credit cards. Make sure you visit the bank before going their or you will have to use their ATM. There is a convenient Bank of America ATM located near the restaurant. Maru Ichi’s biggest flaw is it’s location. Located in the heart of downtown Mountain View, Maru Ichi is surrounded by other Ramen establishments, each bringing something new and interesting to the table. Maru Ichi plays safe with good noodles, good broth, and good veggies, but none of which are particularly memorable. The only exception is their beef, which tastes like it has been marinated in a mix of soy sauce and ginger for hours and simply melts in your mouth. Overall, I didn’t have a bad experience. The prices are competitive and the portions are good, but having also sampled their sushi and pot stickers, nothing sticks out. If you want a special meal, something worth the wait, then Maru Ichi isn’t the Ramen house for you. But if you need something quick, cheap, and without any waiting, then Maru Ichi is your good choice.

I don’t understand why this place is so popular… I’ve had much better ramen in places not even known for their ramen. I ordered: Tonkotsu ramen and my friend ordered the soba noodle. I didn’t like the taste of the noodles and the veggie to noodle/broth ratio was poor. The broth was flavorful but the ramen as a whole as subpar.

Came here for the first time with a group of friends(part of 8) and was super pleased that(1) the shop is relatively large so therefore(2) we didn’t have to wait for an hour! The waiters were all super friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to choose. I wasn’t feeling ramen(I know. why come to a ramen place then right?) so I got the Curry Rice Bowl and let me tell you, it is the BOMB! It has just enough heat and meat that just fills and warms you up on a cold night :) my boyfriend got the Tonkatsu Ramen and also liked it a lot. I noticed that with all the ramens, they definitely don’t skimp on the add in a unlike most other overpriced ramen shops that make you pay extra to even have corn or seaweed. The serving sizes are normal — large and for the cost, I think this is definitely a great place for ramen or non-ramen foods!

Pretty overrated. After my parents and sister picked me up from the Caltrain, we were looking to eat some warm noodles on a cold and rainy day. We originally went to Ryoma but the wait was horrendous so we headed over to Maru Ichi where the line was much shorter. I ended up ordering the Kuro Ramen since I was curious by the black color broth. I was pretty disappointed since it was pretty bland. There was barely any flavor with this bowl. Plus the proportion of bean sprouts to ramen was definitely leaning towards the former, which also made this meal less appetizing. I took sips of the other bowls and I will say tonkotsu was way richer in flavor. Also, this place is cash only so something to consider if you decide to dine in here.

I’ve had good ramen in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Paris, New York, LA and Austin. This place is the worst I’ve had in my life. If you are looking for good ramen, stay away Over cooked noodles at a ramen joint is unacceptable. Go to Orenchi and compare. The broth was just gross. Oily and salty Also, this place only accepts cash and the ATM machine charges $ 2.

I had ramen here for the first time a long, long time ago. And you know what they say, you never get over your first love. Time has gone by, but I’ve stood by Maru Ichi all these years. I love the Aka Ramen(minus the bean sprouts) and it’s still what I order after all of this time *heart* The combo meals come with INSANE amounts of food. By the time I eat my ramen and the CA rolls + gyoza(combo #2 fo lyfe) it is necessary to roll me out of there. Also, so far, my fav noodle! LOVE the texture and size! NOTE: Cash only! There’s an ATM in the back though, but CVS(or Walgreen’s?) around the corner does cash back!

Decent ramen, much better than the Milpitas location. A bit annoying that they still only accept cash, but at least I had a heads up from all the Unilocal reviews! Plus that they offer good kimchi at the tables and that they have combos with california rolls and gyoza. I do wish I saw the handmade noodles being made though. The broth was nice and hot, but the noodles lacked the chewiness. The pork was okay, but not the best. Plenty of toppings. Gyoza was cold, but still good since it’s fried, and what doesn’t taste good fried? Overall, just okay.

Price: good Broth quality: pretty good Meat: not that good Ramen(noodles): A-OK. I used to come here a lot until I tried Orenchi. Now that is my go-to-ramen-place. But I will return here once in awhile.

I’ve been on a ramen quest lately and Maru Ichi is one of my favorites in Mountain View. If you’re a noodle fan, any of the ramen(hot or cold) dishes are quite tasty. For hot ramen, the noodles are a bit thin but still have an al dente feel. I’ve only tried the tonkotsu broth but it felt very rich and filling. I recentlys tarted enjoying the cold ramen dishes during the summer and I love all the fresh veggies they put into this dish here. Any of the hot ramen or cold ramen dishes can be made bento style with a few extra side dishes. Combo B comes with gyoza and fresh CA rolls(which are infinitely better than your standard CA rolls — the crab is really fresh here). The combos come with a lot of food, so try one if you’re super hungry! Otherwise the portions on their regular dishes are already pretty generous. Please note — cash only.

Simple and basic is my mantra for ramen. Maru Ichi does it this way. With ramen-mania stirring up a storm in the South Bay, I can proudly say that I’ve had the luxury of hitting up a handful of ramen joints. However, Maru Ichi is one of my favorites because of the chewy/“QQ” texture of the noodles as well as their simple and different soup bases for the ramen. I loved the super spicy broth, and I’ve also had the black garlic one as well as the veggie broth. All of them were yummy, and service is QUICK. Water is served right when you sit, and they’re a Korean spot(because you get a bucket of kimchi to eat while you wait for the noodles). I’ve been here after the typical lunch rush, so I avoid all of the annoying tech people in downtown MV. Service gets the job done quick, and we walked out with our stomachs full, taste buds spoiled, and cravings satisfied!

I came here with a few friends for Ramen. The ramen is pretty good. It’s a healthy portion, filling and exactly what you want. It just didn’t have that extra umph that makes it amazing. I like this place and if I’m in the area and what ramen, I would definitely come back. But it wasn’t too memorable. The inside is like a Japanese ramen shop which I think is nice for the feel but I feel it could be uplifted to add more character and a little more refinement. Maybe have the open floor plan and use the negative space with purpose. More hospitality, etc.

So I came here close to a decade ago, tried and hated the Kuro ramen and never thought about returning. Have come back twice since and left full and happy both times. Talk about maturing. Tried the tonkotsu and was pretty impressed. The broth wasn’t as heavy and salty as other ramen staples around the area. Most recently, came back to give the Kuro another shot and while I did enjoy it more than my initial crack at it a decade ago, I prefer the Tonkotsu more. The in house noodles are strong. They also have complimentary kimchi, but I don’t eat that stuff, so no comment. No straws for water sucks. Service is quiet, but what do you expect at an Asian place? Cash only. $ 21 for two if you both just get ramen without their combo deals(that’s including 15% tip on the pre-taxed amount…18% is my minimum, but 15% for most Asian places). Worst Asian ever. Yup.

Maru Ichi has been a favorite for years! It’s not quite a top-notch fancy ramen shop, but you know you’re getting good quality stuff when they make their noodles by hand in front of a street-facing window for everyone to see. I get the Miso every time(sometimes with the Combo B if I’m feeling extra hungry) and it always hits the spot. Cash only so come prepared! There is an ATM in the back of the restaurant though if you forget :)

My previous review was 2, but I give one more star this time. Last night I tried Combo B with Kuro ramen and age-gyoza and rolls. Actually Kuro ramen was good.(I didn’t try it out last time). I was surprised that it was good, maybe because I had such a low expectation. Kuro is oil, so it kept the soup hot. I only approve really hot(in terms of temperature) soup for ramen. Age-gyoza(fried dumpring) was not good, it should be yaki-gyoza. Rolls are Americanized one, far from authentic rolls.

This japanese restaurant is very famous for ramen but I always choose soba(«zaru soba») and it’s quite good! Soba itself is thick and fresh noodle, not the dry type, so texture is great, not too hard not too soft, and the amount is generous. The shrimp tempura is small but it’s not oily and it’s very crispy… Unexpensive dishes, good service and nice casual atmosphere, Definitely a reccomended place for lunch They only accept cash! Be prepared when you go there :)

One of my favorite ramen place! They have the unique Kuro ramen which is blackened garlic broth, and its super flavorful not thick like most broth. I love it! Noodle is thin and although they don’t give too many toppings, I still left full every time! They’re pretty cheap if you get the ramen by itself($ 9) but you can do combo with rice or gyoza or California roll or small rice bowl with different sashimi. I love that they have this option. It is CASHONLY! And they give complimentary kimchi all you can eat lol. Woohoo!

I’ve visited this place a couple times and the ramen craving is always satisfied: D I’ve tried the Kuro(with the garlic) and Tonkatsu Ramen($ 8.50) — both come with half of a soft boiled egg, green onions, and delicious charsiu. Both broths are very flavorful and hearty. Usually I’ve have had to wait 20 – 30 mins or so with my friends to get seated during dinner, but today we went around 8 pm and got seated right away. Service is friendly and pretty quick. There’s also kimchi at your table and an assortment of sauces to add to your liking. I’m a fan of their browned garlic chips, which is unlimited and free for your meal, unlike some other ramen places. Noodles aren’t pulled by hand, but at the front of the store, you can watch them make the noodles using a machine. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area!

Good ol’ ramen shop in downtown mountain view This place has been in business for as long as I can remember, probably at least 10 years when I was still a college intern working in the area. The portions here are huge, and always leaves me crazy full. The quality is ok – a LOT of bean sprouts that goes well if you mix them with the ramen a lot. The broth is ok, nothing fancy but gets the job down, as do the egg and the meat etc. I got the spicy ramen, which you can tell has the spiciness toned down a bit. The udon also looks nice. The décor is also ok. The age of the place does show – the wooden tables etc look quite old, which is not unexpected. Overall, a place to grab a quick bowl of ramen if you happen to walk by.
