I’m reviewing Red Hat of Mountain View because I’ve recently discovered they are the commercial support option for a piece of software called Cygwin. Because I can’t describe it better myself, a quote from their website: Cygwin is a set of powerful tools to assist developers in migrating applications from UNIX/Linux to the Microsoft Windows; platform. I’ve recently installed this software on my XP laptop in order to execute a *nix program called whois through a PHP program I’m running on top of Apache. It allows me to know when each of my customer’s domains will expire with just one click. This is just one way to put this piece of software to use … if you are for whatever reason forced to spend some time on windoze box and would feel more comfortable using a *nix type command line interface for certain tasks you’ll be very pleased to use this software.
