Mt. Airy Eye Care

Mt. Airy Eye Care is the best place I’ve tried in 10 years in the DMV. They are extremely professional and accommodating. They were patient when I tried 3 different combinations of contact lens prescriptions, making sure I had enough time to really determine which was the right one for me. The advice and assistance I got while purchasing glasses was fantastic. I think she spent close to an hour with me. I am super happy with them.

It’s been a few months since I was at Mt. Airy Eye Care, so I can definitely say that my eyeglasses’ prescription was very good, the best I’ve had in several years, because my glasses are still serving me well. I don’t feel as if I need new lenses already. The doctor explained to me, in a way I could understand, why my previous prescriptions weren’t suiting me. I appreciated his taking the time to do that for me.
Choosing the frames is always difficult for me because of the strength of my prescription and because I have a narrow face. I usually end up looking at children’s frames! But Mt. Airy had a nice selection of frames that fit my face, and a special line that could be adjusted to fit. That pair has become my favorite pair (I bought two pairs of glasses). The doctor reviewed my order before it was filled and made a suggested change to improve my close-​work glasses that actually meant I was spending less money. In other words, they were motivated to give me the right glasses, not just make the most money.
I’m very happy with the care and product I received. My only criticism is the office was very small but I think they just moved so I’m looking forward to visiting them again when the time comes to get checked again so I can see their new place.

My experience at Mt. Airy Eye Care was anything but pleasant. From the moment that I walked in, I felt like I was in a bad used car dealership. With the eye exam the way the examiner phrased my options for one of the exams was «You could get the eye drops which will make you sensitive to light for 4 hours (and all of the other negative side effects of the drops) or you could pay $ 39 for no drops.» I didn’t want the eye drops in the first place so I did the other exam, but I thought this was an unprofessional way of giving me my options. Then they kept on selling me on getting contacts, which I don’t wear and repeatedly said I don’t want. «They could be for weddings or kayaking.» I have never kayaked in my life. When it came time to pick out frames and talk about lenses, I again felt like I was being haggled. I already knew exactly which frames I wanted and the woman kept on giving me a certain brand to try which was much more expensive than the ones that I had already picked out. When discussing lenses, she told me exactly what she was giving me instead of asking what I wanted. Then she told me the total for my pair of glasses with insurance was going to be over $ 350. The lenses alone were over $ 700 without insurance. WHAT?! This was my first time with vision insurance and I pay about that much without insurance. When I asked to just pay for the exam and to have a copy of my prescription, she asked if it was because the cost was too high. When I said yes, she offered to drop the cost down to $ 150. So… you can just magically slash over $ 200 off my bill now that I’m about to walk out. No thank you. I took my business somewhere else and they gave me exactly what I wanted for $ 177. I will not be returning to Mt. Airy Eye Care.

Been going to Mt. Airy Eye Care for years and have always been happy with the pleasant staff and my «buddy» Dr. Chris Coleman. More like visiting an old friend rather than a doctor’s appointment! Highly recommend…

My husband and I have been going here for years. I have had some strange eye problems in the past and Dr. Coleman did everything to take care of my eyes. I highly recommend them!!!
