I’m not from the Muncie area but we were shopping and needed a place for dinner. I had been craving Japanese so we went here. It will be my first and last time. The food was poorly flavored, the grilled hibachi chicken was so over cooked that there was NO moisture left and it was flaky and hard to choke down. I had to drown it in sauce to soften it. I’ve never been to a Japanese place that charges $ 2 extra for fried rice! The prices were steep for a chicken dinner. Somehow I got charged $ 26 for this and a Coke. The people were friendly but that doesn’t help when everything else is less than average. The best thing was the sushi that my sister got and shared. One of the sauces were unpalatable. It had some type of lumps in it. I realize we went to dinner late but if you are going to open then your customers shouldn’t get ‘it’s the end of the day and I want to go home ’ service. My mom was really looking forward to getting shumai but they didn’t have it on the menu. We asked about it and they didn’t know what we were talking about. My sister wanted a shrimp tempura roll but they didn’t have that either our server told us. I’ve never seen a Japanese restaurant not have these 2 items.

Cleanest, most quality prepped food place I’ve been in, in many years. Our steaks, chicken, noodles, rice & veggies were excellent. I’ll be coming back here.

Mediocre sushi, soso hibachi. I used to work at a hibachi place, and this place does not measure up to it at all. The sushi rice is way under seasoned and dry. The fish is also very old tasting.

Pretty good for being the only place around Muncie. Little over priced in my opinion, but overall pretty good.

Wow. I really wanted to find something positive to write as we traveled for over an hour to celebrate my awesome brother’s birthday at Domo — his choice. All I can say is not good. Not good at all. I am trying to be objective as we have SO many amazing hibachi places in Indy… But dang. Domo was… Just. Not. Good. I started with the Goma-Ae: tiny little pile of spinach with the strangest looking peanut sesame sauce on it. It was dark and thick and heavy… And almost appeared curdled. Not good. We got the Spicy California Roll and the Philadelphia Roll(without cream cheese) to share. Can’t go wrong with these basic staples, right? Wrong. The pieces were small, the spicy sauce just tasted and looked like mayo. Not good. Salad and Miso(?) soup came out… Sad. Soup was chock-full of fake onion flake things(Frenches dried onions?). Otherwise unremarkable. Finally, the hubs and I split the Shimp Hibachi entrée for dinner. Beware — they charge an extra $ 2 for fried rice. We opted for steamed white — and it ended up being the best part of my meal. Meals are also served with noodles(?) and a side of(burnt, soggy) veggies with your protein. The shrimp was cold(my mom’s was served cold too) and everything had a burnt taste to it – not a hibachi taste — a burnt, garlicky taste. The side of yum yum sauce was my husband’s favorite part. The ginger sauce had the consistency of apple butter … But was sour. All in all I will gently nudge my brother in another direction if he suggests another celebration here. And for the record — they didn’t do anything to recognize his birthday either. High hopes dashed. Gimme my Indy hibachi at Izakaya any day.

I used to go to Domo pretty regularly. The food was always alright. The last time I went there, a server dropped a tray full of salad(not on anyone or anything). The manager proceeded to tell at her in front of everyone. She must have been very embarrassed and I felt so bad for her. We will not be going back.

Fantastic experience! First off, I was kindly greeted then seated in a timely manner at the hibachi grill. We ordered a futo Maki, ultimate shrimp *the best roll I’ve ever had* and the angel in hell roll. All rolls were delicious and beautifully plated. Now the hibachi part. We had Chef Chris cooking for us and he did a wonderful job. Not only was his cooking tasty, his show was entertaining and was very friendly to myself and my family. Overall, the experience here was well worth every penny spent. I’ll be definitely coming back time and time again whenever I’m in town. Thank you Domo!!!

This is the worst sushi I have ever had. Very poor quality. Yellowtail tastes fishy/spoiled. Domo roll is deep fried with little or no fish. Not real sushi place.

It’s been my experience that sushi bars housed in hibachi restaurants aren’t very good. It’s not there’s anything wrong with hibachi — I’ve just been to enough of them to realize that(a) if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all and(b) the sushi preparation usually takes a backseat to the clanging spatulas and flying shrimp. But Domo ended up surprising me on the latter. Not wanting to make the drive to Indianapolis for decent sushi one evening, my husband and I took our chances with Domo and we were glad we did. I’m not sure this is a «nice» restaurant, although it’s not really a dive, either. It’s situated in an old, old strip mall by the railroad tracks, a location that made me skeptical for quite awhile. The fish tank is clean and well-maintained, which I find to be a good indication that the rest of the place is in decent shape. The service is kind of weird. We’ve been here twice — once when it was packed and once when it was virtually empty — and gotten the same caliber both times. The food comes out quickly enough, but the servers(all BSU students, I’d guess) have absolutely no clue about the sushi offerings, so asking questions is pointless unless you’re sitting directly at the sushi bar. Like Valerie mentioned, you’ll probably have at least two servers throughout your meal, maybe more. And she’s right — you do have to ask for soy sauce, which I don’t think I’ve ever had to do before. Thankfully, the sushi itself makes up for whatever Domo is lacking. It’s fresh and the rolls have a good flavor and are good-sized. The fried rice is super tasty. Have I had better sushi? Absolutely. But I went in here with my expectations fairly low and I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve found this is the best way to approach most things in life.

Apparently, I was not nearly as impressed by this place as others were. In my defense, I didn’t sit at a hibachi table… but we did see the show. It was fine– like a hibachi show. My daughter, however, was highly amused by it. She’s 9 months old, so we, in turned, found her reaction entertaining. They were not busy at all when we went on a Friday night. There were only 2 other tables there while we were there. I’m assuming this is not the norm– perhaps it was because it was November 1st… did Muncie move trick or treat as well? The place is small but the space is well utilized. It’s not good for large groups at all, but it doesn’t feel cramped. The décor is very expected; nothing surprising, interesting or eye catching here– though nothing bad, either. We apparently had 2 servers? I’m still not quite sure about all that– our initial server disappeared and then reappeared and apologized for disappearing, but then continued to do it through out our meal. Our initial server(who reminds me of someone I can’t quite place my finger on) left many things to be desired, and made me feel rushed. The other server was very nice and helpful, but also seemed confused and a bit lost. Somehow, though, we managed to make it through the meal and back out the door, mostly satisfied. Our overall experience was fine, and we will return– I have a card to fill up now, and nobody likes cards that aren’t full!(They have a rewards card– which I find odd for such a pricy and wannabe classy place.) We had to ask for soya sauce, which I thought was very, very odd considering I ordered a California roll and unagi.(I had to inquire about the unagi– I assume that is what was listed as «UnaQ?») The sushi was very, very good. The soup, though I have no idea what it was, was so delicious that I ordered a bowl of it to take home with me.(I swear it’s chicken noodle soup, but that makes no sense, right?) The calamari hibachi was deFREAKINlicious. The tempura appetizer was okay– not great to share, but seems too big for one person. The shrimp tempura dinner was blah. The shrimp were blah and flavorless. Did I mention my calamari was to die for? ‘Cause, yeah. However, the veggies that came with? I can totally do without– everything tastes the same, which is really kinda bland– until you get a mouthful of a salty– sweet tar-like substance that gets stuck in your teeth like a tootsie roll. Blegh. The noodles that came with it? Meh, they’re okay I guess, but bland. My daughter loved sucking them off the table.(What?! She’s 9 months!) The salad dressing is not my cup of tea. And they brought out 2 dishes of what looked like a ginger/mayo dressing that was incredibly bland. Overall, for the price, I have to say I hope I am wowed next time I go, because this was incredibly underwhelming for the $ 60 I plopped down for the two of us.

Incredible food and a fun show. Wish we could make it every night. Seriously amazing hibachi food. The flipping spatulas are just a bonus.

I’m new to the area and went to Domo looking for sushi — I was very satisfied. The sushi was good and the rolls on special were interesting. I would have appreciated my server to walk me through the process a little better(how to order certain rolls and/or pieces) but overall, I enjoyed the experience. When I did have questions about specific types of fish, the sushi chef himself came to my table to chat with me about what I was eating. I really appreciated how helpful he was. Despite the sort of run down décor, I’ll definitely return to Domo.

I went here for my birthday and it was a great, environment. Not a big place, but not cramped either. I was a bit disappointed that the waitress had no idea what nigori sake was, so we settled for regular hot sake. I would have been more excited if there were oyster shooters, but alas… I have yet to gain trust in the Midwest when it comes to seafood. It was probably for the best. The food was fantastic and I got free dessert, plus the option to either hit a gong or use the mallet to hit my boyfriend in the head. Tough choice. I ended up going with the gong because I don’t have one of those at home. I will definitely be coming back here!

This is one of the nicer restaurants in Muncie and I highly recommend it for a couple of really good reasons: 1) the food is DELICIOUS! I am always satisfied with the food– it is fresh, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. My favorite dish is the Hibachi Steak with fried rice which comes to about $ 20. The DoMo sauce that comes in a side saucer is so flavorful, I always dip my steak in the sauce. 2) It is soo entertaining to watch the chefs perform as they cook the meal right in front of you. They do all kinds of cool tricks and really know how to put on a show. It is great to get a group together and go out to dinner at DoMo because it is a real experience you won’t forget. 3) The price isn’t bad at all! $ 20 is pretty inexpensive for a meal where you are getting steak and entertainment and I have to mention you will leave feeling very full and carrying a to go box. **In comparison to Benihana’s it isn’t quite as good– Benihana’s is a little bit better in terms of the fact that they can accommodate larger groups, the atmosphere is more fancy and the food is a little bit better. I would give Benihana’s five stars but don’t let that keep you from giving DoMo a try!

Came strictly for sushi. Sushi was as good as O-Fusion, but Domo’s was better priced, hence they get an extra star. We came for a late lunch, right before 3pm, other than one other table the place was empty. It has a generic interior with numerous hibachi grills along the perimeter of the restaurant. We were served quickly, waitress was friendly. If ever in this area again, would choose Domo over O-Fusion.

«Domo Arigato, Mata au hi made» DoMo Japanese Steakhouse The only place in town to get a quality Hibachi meal without the drive to Indy. A little on the pricey side … but worth it. I had the seafood combo. The noodles and veggies are fantastic – simple, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Could have made a meal of just that! I had the Golden Shrimp, the Spicy Garlic Shrimp, and the scallops. Scallops were pretty good! I have to say, even though I’m a lover of shrimp, I doubt I would order that type of shrimp again … it was simply a little bland. I’m one who can never get enough garlic, and I didn’t taste much by way of the spicy garlic on that shrimp order. The Golden Shrimp, was ok, but again … probably wouldn’t order it again and that’s just a personal preference. My friend ordered the chicken from the hibachi grill. It was FANTASTIC! I found myself wishing I’d ordered it as well. Excellent flavors, perfectly seasoned sauce. All food portions were incredibly generous! Several at our communal table ordered the steak. I didn’t have it but they raved about it. It smelled and looked amazing. Our chef was entertaining and personable. Not too serious, but skilled at his craft. Made the meal enjoyable while watching him cook. The place was packed. Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Don’t plan on a quick meal here … we had great service and prompt. Still didn’t leave until 9 p.m. Overall, I give the place a ‘B+’. For anyone to give a low rating due to price point factors seems unreasonable to me given that I never go to a restaurant not knowing the price points. I have always known it was a pricey place, but the food quality and the at-your-table hibachi meals are part of that factor. I’ve also dined at Fusion Japanese Restaurant and it’s prices are less, but does not offer hibachi meals at the tables. Both are great. One of the men at our table had sushi … he said he’d had sushi in a variety of places nationwide, and his at DoMo was good, but not great. Again, his personal preference. I’d go back for special occasion, but not regularly only because it’s one of those places that should be savored for special occasion!

overpriced and too many carbs. ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box. the hostess was very knowledgeable and explained to me what each sauce was used on and what the ingredients were. really great to see that. however, it was the cheapest thing on the menu for $ 14 bucks. she asked if i wanted rice or noodles. i told her rice. when i came home the bento box had rice and noodles. why would i want rice and noodles? couldn’t they replace the noodles with a three piece california roll or two pieces of gyoza? for less than $ 14 dollars i’ve had far better bento box dinners with more interesting sides.

My food was fantastic & that white miso-based sauce is so addictive. Tried the kalamari tempura, & thankfully it was soft & delicious, not chewy at all & cooked perfectly. The spicy crab roll was also superb. I see the other reviewers didn’t like the food, but I must have gone on a great night. However, it’s been since ’08 that I ate here because I moved to Indy, but it was still fantastic that night.

I must have went on a bad day, $ 25 for a 6 oz. dry tasteless steak no thanks. The«show» wasn’t anything impressive(maybe if your a kid you will enjoy it.) I much more enjoy the«dirty» buffets at other Asian restaurants., at least their food has taste.
