Drake Painting & Wallpapering

They did a fantastic job, I am very pleased with how it turned out. Cost was comparable to another quote we got.
We had just bought the house and so it was completely empty which made the job easier. They were done in about 3 days with 2 coats on everything. On the first day they came (Wednesday), started their prep work, and made all of their notes on which specific colors we wanted on particular walls. I actually left a key to the house with them so they could start work early without me having to let them in every day. By Friday evening they were done!
About the only hiccup the was the scheduling. After the initial call, the guy came out the next day or so and we had a quote. After we signed we were added to their schedule and were told that we’d get a call the Thursday before they would come. I didn’t realize how booked up they were as they didn’t call for another 4 weeks. In addition, June/​July 2015 was extremely rainy/​wet so that messed up their schedule and they said they were rearrainging a lot of jobs. Regardless, once the work started I was very pleased with everything.
I would definitely use them again.

The first time I used Drake Painting, in 2015 to paint a renovated basement, they sent out a team of three and did a great job. This time, I was less impressed.
I had two projects: Paint a bedroom at a condo, and stain a deck at a house.
To start, communications around the projects were difficult.
I clearly stated that I’d need 24 hours’ notice for the deck staining as I’d have to leave the gate unlocked and the paint out, yet the painter just showed up one morning out of the blue expecting to paint. Many phone calls ensued between Drake, the painter, and me to get it sorted out.
Similarly, I was told the bedroom would be painted in one day by two painters. Only one painter showed up. He left midafternoon to get something from his car, and was told by maintenance at the building he’d have to move it. Instead of moving it, say, down the street, he got in his car and left for the day– with all his supplies in our bedroom, and our front door unlocked. He was surprised to hear that he couldn’t come back the next day, as our schedule didn’t allow it (because we’d been told it would take one day). So, we lived with his stuff in our bedroom for a few days, then had to reschedule a few things to allow for a second day of painting.
When I communicated my frustration with Dan and Bob at Drake, who had done the estimating, they didn’t reply. Instead, I got a chirpy voice mail from Courtney saying, «Sounds like you got it all figured out with the painter!» She didn’t offer anythign even approaching an apology for the inconvenience Drake had caused.
Worse, we had quality issues. The bedroom was fine, and the painter was very nice about helping us get a discount on the paint, which we bought. But the deck was patchy, and the painter hadn’t bothered to stain between the horizontal slats, so unpainted areas with drips of stain were clearly visible. I emailed Bob about it, and he agreed that the job was poorly done, but said if he came out and re-​stained the deck now it would peel. He offered to come out in the spring with «specialized equipment» that would get between the slats (I call that a paintbrush) and coat the entire base of the deck — at cost. In other words, in order to get our deck done the way we paid to get it done, we would have to wait a year, and pay for it. I declined.

My husband and I purchased a house that needed to be completely repainted from the inside and out. The colors on the inside were way too dark and the outside of the house had this beige color that looked 20 years old. I worked directly with Dan Malefant and he was great at giving me advice on what colors I should use. Dan showed us some new painting techniques that we would not have even thought of. We splurged and had the strie paint treatment in our dining room. It looks absolutely amazing. Another one of the walls in our living room has this minimal stripe texture where they painted the wall one color and then used a gloss paint to create this stripe effect. Our house feels brand new and I’m so happy with the results. If you’re planning on redoing a room I recommend asking Dan for advice. He has great suggestions and responds quickly. The price was reasonable and I know we will definitely use them again in the future.

To paint the interior of our full house we received three estimates and Drake’s estimate was very comparable to others. Bob did our estimate and then Dan answered my follow-​on questions. Both were very patient and gave me a very good feeling. Robert, Tony, Jake, Andrew, Francesco, Oscar with others painted very patiently. Tony is the superstar here, who basically took over the show and understood our needs exactly coordinating the team. They had challenges with the samples we painted combined with a very sunny house, but patiently have sanded them repeatedly to ensure they are not visible. Tony helped us choose the trim color as well. They’re currently doing the job, and it’s going very well.
I’ll update the review once they’re done. I’m sure they’ll end with a 5-​star rating.

Just used Drake for the second time. They did a phenomenal and meticulous job with my doors and trim two years ago so I was sure to call them for my most recent job.
Tony and his crew worked quickly and cleanly to paint my entire first floor. Even came out on a Saturday morning after the job to do touch ups and make sure I was completely satisfied. I highly recommend Drake Painting.

I’ve hired Drake twice now, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. We’ve jut moved, and we needed a painter to come in on our time frame for a very fast turnaround. Drake accomodated us, and did a very professional job.
I was going to paint the closets myself, but when I realized they’d paint the closets at $ 85 each, I decided to just bring them in to do it. They sent two different guys the next day, and they were professionals also.
Very pleased with their service.
