Now that i’ve been to The Block a few times, I am comfortable saying that you’ll have a good meal here, but might not have a good time. It’s a hole in the wall. In the same spot 100 other businesses have been. The furniture seems like it is original to the building. It’s décor is… non existent. They have some great local art hung on bare walls over black vinyl booths. Strange. But, they didn’t open to show how well they can decorate, they are in business to make food! I will say that they may indeed have the best steak in Murfreesboro. I am willing to do more stesting to find out. The steak, and steak bites type apps are out of bounds. So good. So buttery and yummery. The burger is good, salads are good, sides are good. All the food is good! But, you still feel like you might leave here with an STD due to the décor. If they had a million bucks to revamp this place, it would be on the cover of every foodie mag in the country. Best of the best they’d say! The food program is good enough to get them anywhere they want to be. The front of house will keep them in the hood.

The food is good. That’s really the only positive remark I can give. No full bar. Reminds me of a Dive. They have the potential to fix it up and do more, but this may be the kind of atmosphere they want for this place. We had the BLTA with mac n cheese and Boro burger with fries. Like i said the food was really good

I’m not sure I understand these amazing pictures and wonderful reviews of The Block. I wish I had the same experience as others. My husband and I ventured there on a rare date night because of the wonderful Unilocal reviews. It was on a Wednesday night«Game Night», so we were excited about the great food and fun. I had my first doubts with the ambiance when we walked in, aimlessly looked around for someone to help us for a while, but was thankfully greeted by someone that told us to seat ourselves. We sat down at the nearest booth. It was cut up like they picked it up off the side of the road somewhere. My husband reassured me that we can have a good time anywhere we go and I know that some of the best food we’ve had were from«little hole in the wall» places. Wrong. We were greeted by a very friendly server, who told me my «Al Diablo Shrimp Pasta» was an excellent choice. It was not. My three-year-old daughter could have made a better dish. No flavor. Four shrimp. Mostly just pasta with very little sauce. My husband really enjoyed the burger, but how can you really mess up a burger? In fact, how can you mess up a shrimp pasta dish? We had a great time playing cards with some fellow patrons and we, or rather I, enjoyed the random camaraderie. I want to come back to see if the food and experience is different, but that is only because how extremely different ours was compared to others. Laura H. can I go with you next time?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained and in this case it was nothing gained. My wife and I visited The Block based on a high rating on Unilocal. We went for Breakfast Brunch/Buffet at noon on a Sunday. The one positive experience was the server who was very nice and attentive. The food on the other hand was less than desirable. Eggs are cooked to order; however, ours were terribly over salted. My wife couldn’t finish eating her order of eggs. In fact, most of the food was terrible over salted. They were out of bacon on our first pass and when bacon was finally added, it was burnt to a crisp! I went back for a second helping of — hopefully less salted — potatoes, to no avail as there was none. There was live, local music and they are very supportive of local music & artists. We may return to try lunch/dinner, but won’t be returning for the breakfast buffet.

This place is the worst! Horrible food. I tried the buffet and everything was cold and empty. And wouldn’t refill. My wife had the club. Which wasn’t good at all. The bacon was burnt beyond belief. Next time just eat garbage, it will be better.

We loved this place! Stopped in after a tour of MTSU. The food was excellent, but even better was talking with Quinten(? I think that was his name)! He was so friendly and told us all about the restaurant and all the charity work he and the Block are doing. We were extremely impressed and will definitely be back next time we’re in the area!

Brunch should not be missed here! The buffet is breakfast at its best: chorizo gravy, biscuits and plenty of yummy sides! Do yourself a favor and load up on the mixed fruit! Chicken tenders are flavorful as well! The only thing we didnt care for were the fried green tomatoes… im wondering if we just caught them on an off day because they sounded amazing…

Hit and miss. My meal was good but my lunch companion’s wasn’t. I had the chicken tenders w/fries and an appetizer of poutine. Mine was delicious although the portion was small for the cost. Should have been at least one more tender and the poutine should have been a little bigger. Now to my companion’s meal, the steak and gravy was a battered hamburger with chorizo gravy on it. The burger was good w/o the gravy, but the gravy subtracted from the taste. The beer cheese broccoli soup had no beer taste at all. Sorry I always want to give a great review of a new place I try, but today’s experience was a hit and a miss. My lunch companion won’t come back but I may try it again when I visit family.

When planning a group outing I appreciate a restaurant that will gladly accept reservations, like The Block does. What I also appreciate is a staff and Owner that knows their food and drinks inside and out, like The Block does. The group I was with ordered beer cheese soup, katie’s salad, bacon fried tomatoes, and bourbon bites for an appetizer. For our main course we consumed the uncle dave’s burger, chicken tenders, lady melanie sandwich with homemade sweet potato chips. And of course we couldn’t skip their cheesecake for dessert. Everything was great and I would order everything again. The drink and food suggestions were spot on and I can’t wait to go back!

I went to The Block on Wednesday for lunch because of the reviews I had seen on Unilocal.I live in Murfreesboro, travel a lot with. My job, and always prefer seeking out local eateries. Let me start by saying, Murfreesboro is lucky to have this hidden gem! The food is locally sourced and is fantastic. My main draw was to come and try the monte cristo sandwich. I used to go to Bennigans in Nashville before they closed just for that. This sandwich was spot on, warm ham and a tastefully smoked turkey, white cheddar, all deep fried in a funnel cake type batter, topped wth powdered sugar and served with delicious blackberry jam. Skipping fries, I opted for a side of fruit. Staying in hotels, many fruit sides taste bland and the same, not here… a strawberry was a strawberry and a pineapple was a pineapple. I appreciate the unique vibe, local artwork, a stage for artists to perform on the weekend. The staff and service was great. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the lackluster décor. I personally think white tablecloths and candles would dress the place up perfectly and augment the perfection of the food they serve.

The Block is another wonderful, independently-owned restaurant offering locally-sourced food to open in Murfreesboro. Their focus is on clean eating, so none of their food is processed, with the exception of the bacon, which has to be processed. They are also very community-oriented with programs in place to aid veterans and the homeless. They have plans to turn the empty lot behind their restaurant into a free community garden and have MTSU on board to partner in that initiative. The Block also has frequent live music and offers all the artwork in their facility for sale with 100% of proceeds going to the local artists. We dined here on a Friday night at 7pm without waiting for a table. We had very friendly service, with the manager or owner stopping by on a couple occasions to see how our meals were and to also tell us about their programs. They obviously place a very strong emphasis on customer service and satisfaction. We started with poutine — how can one go wrong fries, gravy and cheese?! We ordered the full size appetizer and had plenty left after being shared among 3 people. I had shrimp and grits as my entrée and was not disappointed. Elegantly served on a plate(instead of a mess in a bowl) and garnished with pineapple salsa, the grits were mildly flavored and creamy, the shrimp perfectly cooked and the salsa contributed a nice citrus and sweet flavor. Not only is their food healthy and delicious, I love even more their commitment to improving lives in their community and promoting local artists and musicians. I highly recommend a visit to The Block!

Don’t be fooled by the the old parking lot and location. This place has some top notch cuisine with a laid back atmosphere. I brought my parents here for lunch and we were very impressed with our meals and service. Homemade bread on all the sandwiches and the Lady Melanie had an amazing house sauce of cream cheese and cranberries which was perfect for the smoked turkey and arugula. I can tell the chefs know what they are doing and look forward to exploring the dinner menu.

We went here on Thanksgiving for their buffet. The staff was incredibly friendly and polite. The restaurant was decorated very festively, and it created an ambiance you can’t find anywhere else in the boro. Did I mention the food? There was a huge selection and the quality was unlike any other buffet we had ever been to. The rosemary redskin mashed potatoes and roasted poblano corn pudding were fantastic! We will definitely be back to try the regular menu. Overall, it was a great meal and a memorable Thanksgiving!

It has a cool atmosphere! Lots of artwork on the wall. We started with the bacon dusted fried green tomatoes. Do I need to say more? They were great. The sauce has some spice. I ordered the stuffed chicken breast. We also had the beer cheese broccoli soup. Fantastic meal and service! Can’t wait to try breakfast!

Been here twice with friends… incredible omlette in the morning. The Block breakfast is huge and tasty! Dinnertime the shrimp and grits were some of the best I’ve ever had. It just became my Must Visit place when I’m in town with my friends.

The food here is absolutely incredible! Everything is freshly made by order, personally I’ve only had the brunch and the gravy and grits are to die for! The staff here is like family, very kind and that’s always a plus. Keep in mind they don’t cook your meal until you order it so it’s not going to be a 6min wait. All whole foods also vegan and vegetarian options.
