Ordered the Beef and Cheddar. Got a couple pieces of chewy beef with some cheese melted on top between two pieces of plain toasted bread and some mushy fries on the side. For $ 11 I expected a much higher quality meal. Also, the benches they sat us on didn’t have solid backs so the people behind us were shoving us forwards towards our table every time they moved.

Very quaint restaurant! The salad bar was delicious as was their home made bread! The kids really enjoyed their meals and we were all happy. We sat at the porch and it was very relaxing!

Went here the other night with 6 people including 2 children. Service and food were both great. Waitress accidentally brought wrong size soup and wound up giving us 2 free cups as well as the original correct bowl. The BBQ kielbasa was outstanding. Overall, a great place i would recommend to anyone.

Not good bbq, price too high. Had the bbq fiest. Sausage was good. Brisket, pork, chicken was dry and tough enough that we had to use a knife to cut it. Sides were two spoonfuls in a tiny Styrofoam container. Nowhere near being worth 30 bucks.

My 100th Unilocal review has to go to one of the best BBQ places in the entire state of North Carolina. Please understand that Herb’s is out there; way out there. It is about 15 miles past Murphy and almost on the North Carolina-Tennessee line. That said, if you are ever in Western North Carolina this is a fantastic place to grab a bite to eat. They have some of the best western NC style BBQ in, well, western NC. If you are traveling from Asheville or Cherokee it would be best to devote a few hours to some of the activities in this part of North Carolina. You can always take a rafting trip down the Nantahala River or check out some of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is not far from Murphy as well. As far as the food, it is amazing and affordable. You can definitely feed two people for under $ 20 and that is with a sweet tea. I strongly urge all BBQ lovers to check out Herb’s Pit BBQ when they get the opportunity. Easily five stars!

Love their barbarque sauce! Fried green beans are the bomb. Best pulled pork next to mine. Everything is tasty, have been going close to 10 years and they never disappoint on food choices or quality!

Solid four stars. As far a BBq goes Jim’s Smokin’ Que has jaded me, all others just don’t compare. With that said, do not use the BBq as the only reason to go here. Friday and Saturday your goal should be the prime rib. For Murphy/Cherokee County, the salad bar is pretty good. It is nice to have the ability to create your own salad. It took us forever to get seated. however, once someone realized we were at the door and seated us the rest of the visit was good. Our waitress was always available and the drinks were kept full.

Some of the BEST pulled pork and brisket I’ve ever had! Hush puppies and sides were delicious too! Service was wonderful, and it’s BYOB! Your favorite bottle of wine + excellent BBQ = an awesome dinner experience!

Lots of great press for their Q, but I found it to be very average. I know that a BBQ joint in this part of the state won’t be traditional Carolina BBQ, and that’s OK with me, but you still have to execute. I had the ribs, and they were far from falling off the bone tender, and the sauce was a bit cloying sweet. My traveling buddy had the brisket, and while it had a nice smoke flavor, it was a bit dry. Same deal with the smoked turkey that both of our wives ordered. The side dishes were pretty good, especially the baked potato casserole. And when you order fried pickles for an app to share, they should be served before the main course. The service was pretty good, and she did apologize for the pickles coming out late.

I have to agree with the previous diner. This is an average BBQ joint. I was disappointed, I asked if the beef was brisket and was told it was and maybe it was but it sure wasn’t like the brisket bbq that I have enjoyed elsewhere. The service was good, the portions adequate, the ambiance was rustic but the food was at best, average and when you go to a restaurant that prides itself in it’s BBQ, you expect more. We may go back and try something else but I doubt it.

I would have given this place 5 stars before I moved to Texas and gained a whole new basis for BBQ restaurants. I’ve gone here with my family for years and it’s certainly good — especially the kielbasa. The sampler plate lets you have a little of everything and leave stuffed. The sauce is good, but the meat isn’t always perfectly cooked.

Good, but not great. I got the sampler, and the chicken was so dry I only ate one bite, but the ribs were pretty good.

Great BBQ, chicken and ribs were wonderful! Portions are huge and if you like salad bars it is worth the extra charge. Place is clean and the service is exactly what southern hospitality should be.
