I have always enjoyed stopping at Milliare during my trips to Murphys. Their tasting room on Main Street seems to be in an old gas station, but they have created a large tasting bar complete with a back patio. This place can get very crowded on the weekends and during special events, but I was lucky to visit on a weekday and was the only one around. Milliaire is focused mostly on Zinfandel, but they also have several other options. I always appreciate the quality of the wine, especially tasting the differences between soils and elevations on the varietals. I especially like their dessert wines, including a Port and Late Harvest options. This may be the essential Murphys winery — centrally located, fun and approachable, and reasonably priced.

First time at this winery. Diane was our pourer. She was unbelievable. So friendly and helpful. Se not only poured fabulously, while describing foods and spices that go well with each taste, but she also recommended places in the area to go for fun. She’s also a docent at Big Trees Park and recommended trails and hiking, as well as water areas. We wanted to try a port, which she poured for us, including a taste of some fine chocolates that went well with it. We promptly bought the chocolates too! Her Information on everything was so helpful. She was very knowledgable about the wine, the owner Steve Millier, food, chocolates, hiking, and other fun. Ended up buying a case and a half of wine! From the Simply Red, to Zin Port, to Zin, to sparkling Chard. Can’t wait to go back!

My whole family loves Milliaire! We live in the South Bay so we don’t get out there too often, but we always receive amazing service. This last time jewel, I believe her name was, sorry if I misspelled that or am a little off, was pouring. She was super friendly and engaging. All the wine is really good. Our favorite is the Roberts cuvée late harvest Zin. We had such a great visit, we signed up for the wine club. And we’ve been holding out on joining any wine clubs for a while, but they really won us over. I’m super impressed, and that’s coming from someone who works in a winery! Amazing. Keep it up! :)

We had so much fun here! I forget the name of the gal who was working, but my husband, our friend and I cruised in here on a recommendation. We loved the wines and the company. The gal was very knowledgeable about the wine and the area. They have a cute little parrotlet as well.

The girls that work here are friendly and the wine is good(not as good as Zucca… but still very good!) After a bad experience at Hovey, this place was a breath of fresh air! I also like that they stay open later than most of the other wineries in Murphys(most close at 5pm). What I really love is the building that the tasting room is in. It is an old gas station! They have pictures on the walls of how it used to look in the 50’s… I love the history! We left with several bottles of wine and will be back!

Another friendly and unpretentious winery. Our first stop on a wine tasting outing this past weekend, and it was a great place to start. The lady who was pouring for us recommended other wineries to try and when she heard me mentioning port to my husband, she pulled out a bottle and gave me a pour, even though it was not on the tasting list, and yep, we bought a bottle of that too. It’s a zinfandel port, and it is yummy. Definitely try this winery and if you like dessert wines, ask to try their port, it has a very unique flavor and finish.

We weren’t quite sure about this place heading in as the outside looks like they converted it from a gas station(because I think they did). However, the wine was fantastic and the service was great as well. They have fun«wine art» inside and we really enjoyed it and bought a few bottles. Big shout out to Julie for making our time there incredible!

Was just in town for the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance’s 16th Annual Presidents’ Wine Weekend, and made a stop here… well worth the experience! Our attendant Jennie was awesome! She was quick to pour and share all the nuances of the wines we were tasting, and even offered her own personal opinions on what were her favorites and why. I really enjoyed some of the wines and wound up buying a mixed case, which she graciously held for us to pick up later. Definitely worth stopping by, if only for some good wine conversation and a bunch of inexpensive sips.

I read the reviews and people love the personal attention here. It’s true the service is by far 5 stars! I found the actual wine however to be 3 stars which rounds us off to a 4 star review. The wine may not be why you really go here. The experience yes, the wine not so much. If you are a napa going wine enthusiast all the charm in the world may not keep you from pouring out the wine. If you don’t care so much about that then you will have a good time with 12 tastings(mostly Zin and a champagne) and great social conversation. I bought a bottle of the champagne since so few wineries make it in this area. It was good for the area which is not a white grape friendly place. I did feel like this winery had some good history and honest wine. Some of the other wineries have learned to embellish the wine to give it creativity and structure. What you grow is what you get here and they’d do great going that route outright.(There I go with a marketing plan again!) Honest Wine. lol

Milliare is a favorite of ours. The earlier you can taste here the better the personal attention. They always have some behind the counter that they have brought out to pour for us. Personable and knowledgeable. The ghiradelli zin is to die for and you can’t beat their 7.50 simply red for taste or price. A don’t miss in Murphy’s.

On a hunting spree for Zinfandel and Barbera varietals one sunny California afternoon(and after a catastrophic experience at Hatcher Winery just down the road), Milliare was a welcome oasis. The girl that poured for us was the single most welcoming and knowledgeable tasting room employee my tasting buddy and I dealt with that day. She was interested in what we were looking for but gently encouraged us to try some other wines that were available without being pushy. They had a varietal available called Jeunesse Primitivo that piqued my curiosity. Upon sipping it, I immediately purchased a bottle before continuing the tasting. After the tasting, I would purchase the bottle versions of two other vintages — Simply Red and the Gewürztraminer. Wonderful, wonderful wines. The pride in their product was radiating from every single one of the tasting room employees when speaking to each customer about the age of the wine and the process of grape-to-bottle. Milliare is steadfast in the practice of fermenting the wine for a lengthy amount of time in specialty oak barrels. It’s not about quantity here — all quality.

Looking at the building this place is in, you wouldn’t really expect the wines to be that good… it’s kinda run-down looking. But these guys have some very good stuff! I love their gewürztraminer(and I think they’re the only winery in Murphys to offer one… we didn’t find another this weekend). My husband really likes their Clockspring Zinfandel. They also had a great mulled wine to try. Nice and warm and perfect for a cold rainy day: D

The overall experience really deserves a 5 star rating, but it gets 4 for now. We stopped in for a wine tasting on Sunday. It is $ 3 but waived if you buy a bottle, which we did. The staff explained the different wines and gave us some history. It was enjoyable and fun. I would suggest going here.

Milliaire is our one of our favorite wineries to go to when we’re in Murphys. There a lot of tasting rooms, but Milliaire is a definite stop. Their Ghiradelli Zin is the best and you can’t go wrong with their sparkling wine either. Great prices for great wine! The staff there is very friendly and always greets you with smiles. We’ve usually had Jana pour for us when we’re there tasting. She’s awesome. There’s also an older lady with short hair that is as equally pleasant to work with, can’t remember her name at this time. Both are very knowledgeable of the wines, very excited to talk about their products. Overall, you can’t go wrong with Milliaire!

Guess I need to check my reviews more closely. Was sure I had written one for Milliaire being a club member and all. Anyway this is a really great tasting room with very knowledgeable and friendly people. They have a Simply Red wine which is never offered for tasting. This is a great red table wine and it will make you want more it is excellent.

This is one of our favorite wineries to visit in Murphy’s! To start with everyone who works there loves the wine and it shows in the enthusiastic way they provide context around the varietals, it is so unassuming and comfortable and the wines are simply delicious. My husband and I are members because we can’t get enough of the Ghiradelli Zin. Such a great everyday wine to have with dinner with such a rich jammy flavor. The Syrah and Petite Syrah are also fantastic wines. Most of all when you walk out of the winery you come away with such a great experience. We shared stories and talked about the wine and made sure to walk out of there with a selection of our favorites. Such a great value for the quality! If you are headed to Murphy’s to do some wine tasting, be sure this is on your list!

We had a lovely time at Milliare and will return! Yummy wines, free tastings and reasonably priced if interested in purchasing. We were stopped in here on the way up to the house and once again on the way home. Needed to buy another bottle. As we tasted wines, we were engaged in conversation with our server, Janar. We spoke about Murphys, wines, travel and she told us about the upcoming events. She took the time to speak with my kids and shared some stories with them Ahhhh, peace while I taste! We ended up purchasing some of the Merlot and Chardonnay which they had on sale! The chardonnay will be perfect for my summer reading under the apple tree.

Oh how I love the wine at Milliaire. The Ghiradelli Zin is phenomenal and the people at the winery are so nice; always sharing stories and offering wine pairings. Must try the Jeunesse– I bought two bottles. They also have a nice hot wine to try.
