I had a similar experience to the post below mine. I bought a fairly expensive booth from Jake Davis in April 2014. I bought a double wall 6×8 booth and asked multiple times about the isolation the booth would provide. I was assured that I would get the isolation I needed but could add quiet rock 510 drywall for an extra 400 $ and surely get what I was looking for. The booth was 3 weeks late from the original install date so it took about 1.5 months for my booth to be built. I kept inquiring about progress pictures but didn’t get any until the night before the booth was delivered(when it was probably built). When the booth was installed I walked inside, shut the door, and could hear everything that was going on outside of it. I asked Jake why and he told me it probably needed to be sealed. I was pretty unhappy but the booth was already there and I was forced to sign paperwork that said I was 100% happy, pay for the rest of the booth, and was told that he would come back and seal it for me. After Jake left I realized he had forgotten to install a power outlet that we had agreed on. I also found out that the quiet rock 510 I paid extra for was actually quiet rock ez snap and that it was glued to the wall in squares and not mounted to studs(rendering it pretty much useless). The more I examined the booth I realized it had no science behind it at all. I had basically paid almost 4000 dollars for 4 painted walls with some foam on it. When I called Jake about it he told me «there’s soundproofing around the whole booth!» confusing foam absorption with soundproofing materials. That’s when I realized this guy had no idea what he was doing. After some research I found out his other business is quality home improvements, which is probably his original business before he found out he could fool people into thinking he knows how to make a recording booth. So he did come back. But not for 2 weeks(no power so I couldn’t use it for those 2 weeks). He chuckled at me when I told him I was losing business because of it. I think he assumed I was a hobbyist and not a professional. But that’s ok. He was pretty nice about it all. I asked for my money back for the 400 $ quiet rock that he installed improperly and he agreed to, but he said I had to wait 3 months for the refund. So 3 months rolls around and he «doesn’t have the money. I can’t give you money I don’t have.» I got a little bit upset and he showed his true colors by ridiculing me and acting extremely unprofessional. A day later he told me he felt bad and if I gave him some time he would get me the 400 but could give me 100 dollars that day. He PayPal’d me $ 100 but made me pay for the fees so I only got 92 $. Whatever. That was 6 months ago. He hasn’t returned a phone call or text message since then. This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing, is a horrible businessman and runs a shady business. To be avoided at all costs.
